He's a much better personnel guy than the clowns we have now. Just look at the Giants recent drafts.
Seattle interviewed him in the past for their open GM position.

That 2002 draft was one of the best drafts if not arguably the best draft under Andy Reid's tenure as head coach. Lito Sheppard, Sheldon Brown, Michael Lewis, and Brian Westbrook were taken with the first four picks and all four played at a Pro Bowl level at least at one point of their careers if not formally named Pro Bowlers (Brown). Say whatever you want about the Giants, but it should be acknowledged that a major reason for their recent success over the past few seasons is due to their drafting. With that type of track record, Ross deserves the nod over Howie Roseman.

Ross is still under contract with the Giants. The Giants can't block an interview that would give him full GM authority with control of the 53-man roster. They could block him from interviewing for a director of player personnel role.

Roseman = GM
Grigson = former Director of Player Personnel
I'd love to have Ross back in the fold here, but am guessing they will promote internally instead. Riddick seems like a likely candidate, but not sure how much experience he has in college scouting.

For a Bears team that has struggled to get consistent production from its first-round draft picks, Marc Ross seems like a logical choice as the next general manager, given his track record.
The 38-year-old Ross, the Giants’ director of college scouting for the last five years, on Wednesday became the third candidate to interview for the Bears’ G.M. job that has been vacant since Jerry Angelo was fired on Jan. 3.
Patriots director of pro personnel Jason Licht interviewed Monday, and Chargers director of player personnel Jimmy Raye III talked to the Bears Tuesday. Chiefs director of college scouting Phil Emery, a former Bears scout, is expected to interview this week. Bears director of player personnel Tim Ruskell remains an internal candidate.
Ross has run the Giants’ draft for the last four years. Although not one of his 2011 picks is currently a starter, his previous three No. 1 picks — SS Kenny Phillips (2008), receiver Hakeem Nicks (2009) and DE Jason Pierre-Paul (2010) — are major contributors.
Nicks caught 76 passes for 1,192 yards and 7 touchdowns in the regular season, and he has been even better in the postseason with 13 receptions for 280 yards and 4 touchdowns. Pierre-Paul was fourth in the NFL with 16 ½ sacks this season, and Phillips had 4 interceptions.
In the 2011 regular-season finale, the only Bears’ first-round pick on the active roster was linebacker Brian Urlacher, who was drafted in 2000. First-round offensive linemen Gabe Carimi (2011) and Chris Williams (2008) were on injured reserve, while tight end Greg Olsen (2007), running back Cedric Benson (2005), defensive tackle Tommie Harris (2004), QB Rex Grossman (2003) and offensive tackle Marc Colombo (2002) were all playing for other teams.
Of the Giants’ eight 2011 draft picks, seven are contributing in backup roles for the team that plays Sunday against the 49ers in San Francisco for the NFC title. Second-round defensive end Marvin Austin is on injured reserve.
Ross joined the Giants on May 18, 2007 and ran his first draft the next year, when New York selected Phillips, cornerback Terrell Thomas and wide receiver Mario Manningham.
Ross came to the Giants from the Buffalo Bills, where he spent three seasons as a national college scout (2004-06). Before then, he was the Eagles’ Eastern regional scout from 1997 until 2000. The Eagles than promoted him, at age 27, to become the NFL’s youngest college scouting director (2001-03).
Ross was an all-Ivy League wide receiver at Princeton in 1993 and ’94. He holds five school records, including one as a receiver (a 20.2-yard average per catch in 1993) and four as a punt returner (most career returns, 74; most career return yards, 696; most returns in a season, 32 in 1994 and most yards in a game, 161 on six returns vs. Cornell in 1994).

Even if it brought them positive results if he came, they still wouldn't allow him to come back if they "thought" letting him go was the right decision the first time.

The crazy thing is that no other teams are trying to hire Marc Ross. Thats just ridiculous IMO. But now teams are definitely going to be knocking on his door after that win. Probably some of the same teams that rejected him the first time.
If i were him, i'd give them a firm "F you"

Lurie should give Howie the fake promotion to some newly made up title like VP of Contract Negotiations (removing him from any responsibility with talent evaluation) if he's bent on keeping him in the organization.

Hire Ross as the GM and give Roseman some figure head position where he can work on the salary cap/ contract negotiations.
Howie has no business drafting players.

Even better they can let him keep the GM title and bring Ross in as the Executive Vice President of Football Operations. Basically it'd go back to what it was when Heckert was named the GM.

Yep. As of now, Roseman is the GM in name, but is more of an advisor to Reid who is the Executive VP of Football Operations and has the final say.
Whoever Lurie brings in as the new Executive VP would be the guy that Roseman answers to whether it be the new HC, who gets both positions like Reid, or a separate individual who gets the position, that latter of which I think is more likely this time around.
If the Eagles bring in Marc Ross first, that might make the job opening more attractive to a guy like Perry Fewell, the Giants DC, or if Lurie wants to go with a younger coach, a guy like David Merritt, the Giants Safeties Coach, who I mentioned as a dark-horse candidate in another thread.
Strategically, it would be a good move for Lurie to try to bring in an Executive VP from a team that also has a prospective HC candidate. If he wants Fewell or Merritt, Ross is the way to go.

That's really the only way it could be. The 3 positions need to be held by 3 different people. I like Merritt as a potential DC candidate. I could see him as a dark horse HC candidate but more likely he'd come as a defensive coordinator.
