Im suprised we havent picked anybody up to back shady up. Maybe theyre looking to pick one up in the draft? Maybe Isaiah Pead or Bernard Pierce in the 3rd round? OR bring in guys still out there like Cedric Benson or Joseph Addai?

Considering Reid mentioned he will lighten Mccoys load this year, sure Lewis is a nice backup. Even Havili will probably get a few carries here and there. I'm sure they'll pick up a rb in the mid to late rounds as well.

To simply address the topic: No. Not really.

They'll bring in a couple people to vie for number three with Graig (forgot about him, didn't you? ), but Dion is pretty well situated at number two

Personally, since Lewis & McCoy are the same types of runners, I'd like to see an actual change-of-pace back at number 3.

Why not explain why you don't think Lewis would make a reliable backup RB instead of just throwing bs up against the wall. Sure seemed like a servicable player last year.

And limiting mccoys load means throwing more, not running the same with a different rb. This is Reid.

Completely agree.  We need a smashmouth RB to throw defenses off guard.

I like Pierce, Turbin or Gray in the third, Rainey in the fourth, or Baker or Poole in the fifth.

Depends how high you see RB as a priority.

Either way, we will add someone.

What's the worst he can do?  Never contribute on the ground and toss the ball in mid-air to the other team on goal-line carries?  I think he can adequately replace last year's backup.

I think it's hilarious how some people think Benson would want to come to Philly to be a backup.

As for the topic, I'm fine with Lewis as the backup. It's not like he'll get a lot of touches, anyway.

Lewis showed lots of promise in the Washington game last year, so I'd be fine with him as our backup.

I still want a guy who can come in and beat the defense down... Move the pile..
Shady and lewis already have the speed and moves.

We do, need some quality depth at RB, but i expect that in the form of a middle round draft pick.

Cool bro.. I'd like to see a physical RB and WR added to the roster.. Lewis is a tiny finess guy. Can he carry a full-time load if shady goes down? Is he gonna run out the clock in the 4th against a physical defense? I don't know..
It would make sense to have 2 guys who are fast and shifty.. And another who can pound the rock up the gut.

Ganaway sounds like a possibility in the 3rd if he falls to us. Power north south runner tough to bring down, unafraid to piledrive the middle of the line

In the third...?!  I wouldn't take him until the fifth.

Pierce, Turbin and Gray look to be better RB prospects that should be available in the third.

With that said, I'd be happy with Ganaway but taking him at 88 would be a reach IMO.

Wouldn't even spend draft resources on a back. Plenty of RBs are on the street who will come cheap and have some NFL experience. J.Forsett?

The point is, what if McCoy gets injured? Lewis has a similar skillset and can be put in with almost no change to the playcalling.

It just slays me how everyone wants a N-S runner but forget we had an excellent one last year, we just never used him after his crimes against humanity in the SF game

Benson is not a pass receiving RB either...
Heck, I addressed this on another thread a few weeks ago...let me go look...
But, ultimately, they need to bring in a vet...drafting a rookie who would most likely get cut would be a waste of a draft pick...

Lewis will end up owing his career to Andy Reid.  Reid will start to show flashes of him this season and by the end of his rookie contract 5-6 teams will be lining up to offer him a monster contract.
