There are few times when a 34 year old player whom is a FA catches anyones attention. With that being said, Am I the only one wondering why Yeremiah Bell is still a Free Agent. Granted many people in this area dont have access to dolphins game, so all I have to say is look at his numbers. Think logically... Think about the position he plays, the toll it takes on your body, his age, and what the Eagles have at that position. And  who the secondary coach is. Too good to be true? No, i would just say it makes sense. This dude missed one game since 2008. 100 tackles every year since starting full time. @nd the #2 ranked safety in the league

Im just saying, the 2nd overall safety in the league is available and his old DBcoach is our current DB coach. Where are people getting that he sucked in coverage from? Brian Dawkins had only 1 season where he amassed 100 tackles, that doesnt mean he cant tackle

we spent second round picks back to back years on safety....why is everyone scared to let them play? i think jarrett will be special but he wont be special if he doesnt play. even dawkins was an unproven rookie once. sometimes you have to let guys grow and go through the pains.

But we would have the perfect mix of youth an veteran players in key positions on the field.

Coleman has shown he's a backup and Jarrett is a big unknown. The smart thing is sign Bell to 1 year deal and let Jarrett bulk up and learn.

id sign him in a heartbeat for a one year deal
at worst he stinks, we cut him and we're right back here where we started

at best coleman and jarrett get a chance to learn from him and continue their development without the pressure of Fing up a SB hungry team

How exactly does adding a veteran S insinuate one is scared to let the young guys play ?  At the very least, we need depth at the position (right now we have 3 ... Allen, Coleman, Jarrett).  Adding a player like Bell adds depth to a young, inexperienced group, and is a great insurance policy should Jarrett still not be ready.  Plus he obviously is familiar with Bowles' tendencies and would make a great mentor to this group.

You keep saying he is the 2nd ranked safety in the NFL (which you're using the statistic of solo tackles, only), which implies that you would only rather have 1 other safety, in the NFL, over Bell.  I certainly don't think Bell is the 2nd best safety in the NFL.

2nd ranked safety in the NFL whose last name begins with the letter B.  :P

Well his stats say otherwise. You guys are so used to name recognition, your judgement is clouded. Check the numbers, they don't lie..

Numbers often do lie.  They can say almost anything you want them to say.  You're looking at only one statistic, solo tackles, for ranking safeties.  You're not taking into account any other factors at all.

i heard jarrett wasnt done physically growing and the training staff was not able to get him to gain much of any weight. im expecting a completely different player out of him this season. im all for y. bell, but only on the cheap. the Eagles safeties may be young but they are entering their 3rd year and are slowly beginning to get comfortable in the nfl and their positions. i think jarrett will beat out coleman in camp and allen will return to form. y.bell would be a great addition for a vet presence and competition, but i dont really see him starting.

Bell would absolutely start over Jarrett. You don't sign a guy to fill the biggest hole on D who has 100+ tackles his past 4 seasons, to sit on the bench. Bell would be the starter, hands down.

Why are people getting hung up on this 100+ tackle thing?

If your safety is leading your team in tackles, that means that your defense is really not that good.

That's not what it means at all. Dolphins have a good D. Last season they started out slowly but got back into it and 2010 they were really good, they have Dansby and Wake as LBs, Starks, Soliai and Odrick on the DL, that's pretty good. Bell is just a really instinctive player who excels in the box. Just because your S is the lead tackler doesn't mean you have a bad D.

Or it could also mean that the guy actually wraps up and makes tackles when needed - an area we seemed to have had an issue with the past few seasons with the back 7.

I do have a question for the OP.  Is safety the only position where solo tackles is the only ranking you need to look at to see where they rank at the position?

I did notice that there are two former Eagles who you have ranked as top 10 safties (Jones, Mikell).

We might as well draft a young safety and let him compete with Coleman. We'd have to draft a Safety this draft or the next if we pick of Bell.
