How many PROVEN head coaches go to other teams and win Superbowls?

I'll save you the googling:  zero.

The majority of coaches who do actually win Superbowls have never been a head coach, they get hired from a coordinator or position coach job.

Some with HC experience but no SB have been recycled and won like Gruden, Dungy and Coughlin.

But most have never been a HC before.
guess that means hiring Payton would be a waste of time

I said Superbowl.  Records can be broken but right now, no HC in the NFL has ever won a SB with two teams

I don't know.  It could happen.  Reid was perfect after the bye til last week.

Why would they listen to some young incompetent coordinator that they've never heard of? Mike Sherman is experienced and knows how to deal with young punks.

A young up and coming coordinatoor would probably relate to a young roster of players.............not an old man like Sherman.

Now I say someone like a Mike Tomlin or Jim Harbaugh.  Last I checked, neither of those 2 guys are incompetent.

I agree, a younger coach can relate better to younger players.

Don't forget John Harbaugh, he got old men like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed to buy into his system.

But trends like this are subject to reversal without any warning: Until 1981, only one HC of a Super Bowl champion, or NFL champion prior to 1966, had never played the game professionally (Paul Brown); since 1981, an outright majority of SB-winning HCs have been non-ex-pro-players.

Are you serious about Rob Ryan.. He'd be a laughable/joke as a head coach. He's a DC period. Not to mention he has a huge trap that would get him in trouble with the fans here nonstop. Could you see him at a game and the Eagles struggling and him being able to stay quiet if he was being heckled by our fans. I can't. Would be straight up stupidity for a  team to even consider him. Brian Billick would be the favorite to me.

How many time has Tampa won in temps below 40? Oh you mean streaks get broken? This is just stupid superstition.

People need to stop with the Gruden/Cowher/Dungy crap. Why the hell would any of the glamorous candidates want to coach in this city as opposed to coaching on the beach in San Diego with a franchise quarterback,  a easy division and a passive fanbase and media?

Because Andy already has dibs on that job. Plus that is 3 candidates and one job. Well 4 if you count Andy.

after tonight,  and having following for a little while now,  I'd take the Stanford HC.

worst list I've seen so far.

You know even the great head coaches never wont Superbowl with another team?

I'm really surprised to see Billick even on this list. He's this great offensive mind that ended up winning a Superbowl in spite of their offence. Should be a red flag that every year he's out there saying he wants a chance to coach again, yet the phone never rings

Mike Trgovac
Ray Horton (?)
Mike Zimmer

I would say yes, minus Harbaugh. It's unlikely he'd be fired in Baltimore, what I was saying, or trying to say, was that he's a young guy that got the vets to buy in.

I do like Chip Kelly, I think with the young talent we have, he could succeed here.

Ray Horton and Mike Zimmer intrigue me, I don't know jack about Mike Trgovac to say one way or another.

Or Andy 2.0 for that matter.   Offensive "genius" who's team fails when facing a good coach with comparable talent.

Gruden loves every QB in the NFL, just look at how many he had in Oak & Tampa

Anyone who wants Gruden can almost bet on Tebow being an Eagle. Gruden has praised Tebow more than anyone not named Skip Bayless. He just said a few  weeks ago on MNF that Tebow will be a starter in 2013 for the  right coach. The below quotes are from 2009 to this past week.

Quote

“Tebow has proved to a lot of people that he’s a premier competitor, he’s a great game day clutch, hard-nosed football player,” Gruden said Wednesday morning on ESPN Radio.

Quote

“He's like Brandon Jacobs playing quarterback. He’s 250 pounds. He’s the strongest human being who’s ever played the position. Ever. He will kick the living [expletive] out of a defensive lineman. He’ll fight anybody. He is rare. Tebow is the kind of guy who could revolutionize the game.”

Quote

"Tim Tebow is the 'wildcat' who can throw,'' said Gruden. "This guy is 250 pounds of concrete cyanide, man. And he can throw. He throws well enough at any level to play quarterback. He can play quarterback in the NFL."This guy is totally different. He's got Rich Gannon, Drew Brees, that kind of makeup as a team guy."

Quote

"Tebow's been a big lightning rod for quite some time,'' said Gruden, the ESPN Monday Night Football analyst and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach. "It's 10 weeks into the season, and it's obvious, based on film and stat sheets I've seen, that he's not going to be the every-down quarterback of the New York Jets.

"I feel for the kid, because I'm a fan of Tebow's. His teammates are tired, probably exhausted, of being asked about him. I hate to hear that people are on that wagon right now. I got a lot of confidence in the person he is and the kind of player he is. He'll end up making a difference for somebody.

Gruden added: "I'm from Florida. I can tell you there's an army of Tebow fans down here. Down the road, someone will give him an opportunity, whether it's New York or elsewhere."

Can you find me quotes from Gruden where he does NOT praise people?   Use your brain.  Gruden is sickeningly sweet because he does not want to burn any bridges for his possible return to the NFL.  You say something bad about a player in 2010,  that gets a GM/owner/FO person angry - they move to another team looking for a HC in 2012, and BOOM Gruden is off the list.  That is why he is a BAD person to have in the booth.  He won't blast the people who need to be blasted.

Skippy says those things to get a reaction,  he trolls the weakminded folks to give him ratings.  Gruden says those things because he likes leaders/people who can inspire others, and he doesnt' want to burn any bridges.   BIG difference, IMHO.

He would be an interesting choice, and in his case, a return to Philly.

Few remember when he was head coach of Temple when they were otherwise a laughingstock and he actually got a 7-4 season out of them when they were otherwise rarely winning at all (and were it not for politics and far fewer bowl games then, would have likely gotten Temple to a Bowl game in 1990).  That was the last time Temple was good at all before the got to a couple of bowl games while in the MAC for football.

Of course, if Chuck Pagano is unable to return as HC of the Colts, he might very well wind up their HC and that would be moot.

I see Lurie making a serious run at Bill o'Brien because there is still a major faction of alumni at Penn State who will never be satisfied with him.  That faction is still very upset at how the Joe Paterno era ended and in some instances could go rogue to try and force him out so their can get "their guy" (widely believed to be Tom Bradley) installed as Penn State's head coach.  As many of them likely won't be satisfied until someone who played and/or was a coach under Paterno is HC of Penn State, I can see o'Brien leaving if not after this season at some point because of that faction of the alumni and donors who resent their not being consulted about bringing in o'Brien.
