I ask this question literally shuddering at what the answer may be, but does Roseman's extension preclude Lurie from dismissing him along with the rest of this inept gaggle of fools at season's end?
As we have discussed many times on here, this team is in desperate need of an historically great GM to supply this roster with the talent that, despite assertions to the contrary, it clearly lacks. And I don't think for a minute that Howie is that guy.

We don't even necessarily need to have an "historically great" GM - how many people would fit that description, anyway? There are probably a bunch of sharp, young football minds working for successful organizations like the Steelers, Pats, Packers, Giants, etc., waiting for their chance to be the next great GM. Go get one of them.
But as you say, KO, allowing the office boy to stay if the house is cleaned goes a long way towards defeating the purpose, and will most certainly keep us mired in mediocrity.

He can rid of anybody he wants in management as long as they get paid the remainder of their contract. So if you really think he will eat 5 years of dead money for Roseman he will be gone. I see no chance of that happening so welcome to 5 more yrs of fantasy football and horrific drafts. They will leak info that Reid made all these bad picks and Howie is a great young mind. Just another reason this team is completely unlikable in every way along with the great players who rip fans on twitter and flip the fans the bird during games.

I totally agree with the previous posters on Howie getting an extension that was not earned. He may be good with numbers and that's where he should be. He is as much to blame as Reid on the draft, free agents, trades, etc. I cannot accept what Lurie sees in Roseman when it comes to the football side. Heckert was bad when he was here, and Roseman is just a little better which is not saying much. How many times have we heard that Reid and Roseman work hand in hand and yet we have seen what is the product on the field. So of course Lurie will spin this and say that Reid had the "last say so" on everything and at the end of the day Reid is totally responsible for this years team as well as the last two years. Come on Jeff --- get a real GM who knows football --- not a money management whiz.

What an absolute train wreck this franchise has become.....

I think Jeffrey is the only one who can answer that question

True. I've just seen Pocono's sig so many times it must have gotten stuck in my head.

If lurie was smart he would just demote him to some low level office position where he has no ability to make any type of decisions. Bring in a real GM and let him have final say over football operations and bring in a coach and let him focus on just that coaching. The whole staff from top to bottom needs to be gone, we don't want anybody left from the AR era left when everything is said and done.

Lurie will learn the hard way like the owner, Peter Angelos, of the Orioles had to learn. He will refuse to let football guys run the team until they are historically bad for such a long time and then have an epiphany after there are all time low attendance and there are more Giants fans at the stadium than Eagles fans. Then and only then will he finally higher football minds instead of lawyers and accountants to be GM.

KO,
My sig line is a statement of what I hope Lurie will recognize and act on. I would always prefer a younger guy who establishes himself as an historically great GM here first, as opposed to an older one who did it somewhere else first. I believe part of that process is having the hunger to get it done, and as MJ points out, there are bright young football minds out there who can become the next great one.
It's a process that can be bumpy at times, but it's necessary. Years ago, the Niners went through 4 head Coaches in 4 years before they settled on Bill Walsh.....if that's what it takes to build the FO correctly from the GM down to the equipment guy....I'm fine with that....it's the results of doing it correctly, that I want to see this team enjoy.
