anything is possible with what I seen in San Fran last year. Coaching and play calling makes a difference. If alex smith can look like steve young with a coach change then anyone can be made better with coaching
The big difference is they had talent already in place on D, had drafted Davis and Iupati on the OL, had Frank Gore and Vernon Davis, so they just needed a few more pieces and decent coaching.

We, however, have undersized lineman on both OL and DL, need an overhaul in our secondary and no depth. Different situation. So my answer is no.

We've seen it often in the NFL. Old, tenured coach is fired, and a new coach comes in and has immediate success.

Jim Johnson fired...Switzer wins SB
Tony Dungy fired...Gruden wins SB
Eric Mangini fired...Ryan gets Jets to two consecutive AFC Championship games
Bill Cowher retires...Tomlin gets to two SBs, winning one

There are more examples but I cannot think of any off top of my head.

Is it possible for a new coach to come in here, with the current players in place (reasonable roster turnover), and immediately turn this ship around?

So I guess you don't want to discuss the ENDLESS list of coaches that have come in and failed with the same talent ???
For the record the VAST VAST majority of new coaches fail.
Now, with that said, there is plenty of talent on this team that it certainly doesn't have to be torn apart.

NEEDS:
- starting QB ( is it Foles ???) I would keep Edwards )
- add another QB
- possibly 1 starting OL ( I assume Peters, Herremans, Mathis, Kelce, Watkins would stay)
- at least 2 quality backup OL
- a reliable #4 WR (after Jackson, Maclin and Avant you can get rid of the other trash)
- a 4th DE ( I assume Cole, Graham will start with Curry in the mix)
- a 4th DT ( I assume Cox, Patterson, Thorton and Landri stay, but it doesn't mean they all make it)
- 1 starting OLB ( Chaney and Jordan are fine for backups and special team players)
- 1 more reserve LB ( I still don't get Matthews)
- 1 starting CB ( I assume Nnamdi is gone and Boykin, Hughes and marsh stay)
- 1 starting safety ( I would keep Coleman as the #3 or #4 safety. But he can't be the starter)

If I were the coach I would give the team 1 more game. If they lose, that's it. Foles is in.
So assuming the Eagles lose this week (boy really going out on a limb there), here is what I would do the rest of the year.

1 - Foles starts
2 - move Graham into the starting LDE spot ( he basically already is)
3 - activate Curry and get him plenty of time
4 - increase the snaps for Thornton and Landri. Lets see what they really have
5 - move Kendricks to WIL
6 - insert Chaney into SAM
7 - increase the snaps for Hughes
8 - increase the snaps for Marsh
9 - let Sims start at safety along side Allen

Lets see who can do what.
Now unfortunately we can't do anything about the OL. Thre just aren't enough players on the team or in the league to get to make it better. It is what it is. But for next year this is what I would be looking at for the OL.

LT - Peters
LG - Herremans / move him back to his best position on the OL
C - Kelce
RG - Mathis / Watkins - let them fight it out. The winner starts, the loser becomes a quality reserve
RT - either grab a top RT in FA, or make this priority in the draft

Idk this Oline is one of the worst Ive ever seen and the D is filled with guys 30 and above who are washed up. There's a couple bright spots in Cox and DRC but that's about it on the defense :/

Let me guess,,,,
**you think Graham sucks
**you think Allen sucks
**you think Curry is a BUST
**and apparently you see nothing in Kendricks
**and Boykin
**and Ryans
**and Landri

????????????

Sorry. I see it completely different. I see the POSSIBILITY for lots of talent on that defense with the need for 2 quality starters and the addition of 3 quality backups.
Some of those young guys have to be given a shot to see what they can do.

why half the team is going to be gone
With the horrible drafts, and mercenaries from FA who have a short lifespan,  I can see the Eagles getting into a similar position to the redskins and how they were totally F'd by Vinny Cerrato. We are quickly approaching that level of suckatude.  We are not there yet, and a quality draft and key FA pickups would stem the tide,  but if Howie is drafting again,  we are in trouble.

I don't think any coach can win with that offensive line. Reynolds, Kelly, and Bell are all practice squad quality guys. Dunlap and Mathis second string quality. Pressing our small receivers no time to let them take advantage of their speed and get deep downfield

This won't be the offensive line next season. Peters, Kelce, Herremans will all be back next season. You can put Herremans back at LG, put Mathis at RG, and all we need is a RT which we can find in FA or the draft.

Next season our line will look somthing like this : LT Peters LG Herremans C Kelce RG Mathis RT FA/Draft Pick

A new coach would need 2-3 years to truly put his stamp on the team.

Did the Harbaughs need 2-3 years ? They both went to conference championship games their rookie years as HC. Did Payton need 2-3 years ? He also went to the NFCCG during his first year as HC. Did Rex Ryan need 2-3 years ? He went to the AFCCG his first year as coach of the Jets. Did Tomlin need 2-3 years ? He went to the playoffs his first year, and won the SB his second. Did Mike Smith need 2-3 years ? The Falcons made the playoffs during his rookie year as head coach; he also had a rookie QB just as John Harbaugh and Rex Ryan did ? Did Jim Caldwell need 2-3 years ? He went to the SB during his rookie year as HC. Did Tony Sparano need 2-3 years, because Miami won the AFC East, and obviously made the playoffs during his rookie year as HC.

A new coach would need 2-3 years to truly put his stamp on the team.  The O line is really bad.  Assuming Peters, Kelce and Herremans are back healthy and ready to go that's good but they still (Reid or not) need to majorly overhaul the line.  Watkins could stay as a backup since their backups are terrible.  But they need to draft O line and maybe get another free agent or trade.  They need major help.

Vick needs to go as well.  I don't know if Foles is the answer, but I wish we could find out.  If they lose a couple more games maybe they'll give Foles a shot.  But it will be hard to tell behind a terrible O line.

There is talent on the team and a new coach can win.  It needs to be someone tough and disciplined that the players will respect.  The talent is there but these guys are entitled divas who talk a lot.  A new coach who puts them on notice to work for their jobs and that no one is safe can get them motivated.

I would not blow up the team.  There's a lot of young talent.  Cut the bloated contracts of Vick, Babin maybe even Cole and Nnamdi.  But keep the nucleus and see if coaching makes a difference.  If not, next offseason you weed out more of them and in 2-3 offseasons you've got a new team making a playoff run.

Very well said and I agree.  There are better examples than those listed by the OP of a new coach coming in with basically the same team that had a losing record and getting that team to a winning record.  The question I have is how long will it be before we're able to see this team back in the play offs and how much longer before they can make a legit SB run.

With a few changes it is possible.  Get a new QB, out o-line comes back healthy and doesn't get hurt, and our defense goes back to the defense of old anything is possible.

i dont think a new coach guts this team at all..
1new QB, 1 new OL (tackle or guard), 1 new LB

i am counting grahm as a starter by the end of the year.. and sims as well i think allen/sims could be anuce duo
