First of all please read the whole thing and explanations! This Is all what I would do and I am welcome to feedback if you actually debate why something is dumb or wrong and not just say this sucks. I am assuming we fall to 8-8 again or even worse and don’t right the ship!

Okay so after a disastrous first half start to the season I don’t see this team doing any better than 8-8 and in fact I see us finishing around that again. Now much like all frustrated eagles fans I sit and think about what I, MYSELF, would do. So what better to do then make a mock off season? Put it on here and get some criticism? That’s what this section of the board is for right..anyways this is all my personal opinion and what I would do.

First of all I love Andy Reid and what he has done for this team, franchise and city over the years but his time has come to an end in Philly, unless he rights the ship from a 3-4 start which (I hope I eat these words) I don’t see happening.  He is most certainly gone.

I don’t know who would replace Reid, it’s hard to tell this early, let’s just say we get someone who wants to come in and put their stamp on this franchise much like John Harbough did in SF, I would like to see this Offense move away from the west coast spread and more to a run team allowing the run to open the pass. I like the Wide 9 but not as a base Defense so i would like a base 4-3 with some Wide 9, we have the right personnel, I don’t understand why they cannot pressure the QB and our secondary has some glaring holes, so let’s improve it. New HC and possibly new OC and DC, but you know what style of play I’m going towards here. I will not say who because I don’t know the best candidates.

FEEL free to comment on the coaches you think represent the type of play I am moving towards

Restructure

Nnamdi Asomugha – due 12 million next year. Do any of you want to pay him 12 million for his performance thus far? Not a shot. He has been exposed as an average corner. In his Defense he still does an excellent job at jamming WRs in the first 10 yards but after that he is average. This doesn’t help that the front 4 cannot get a hurry or sack and the safeties cannot cover Nnamdis butt for him. In his old age I think he would be willing to take a pay cut. He can’t possibly think another team will pay him 12 million. I would be willing to pay him 5-6 million, that is still too much but hell it’s not 12 mil.

Michael Vick – Yep. Due 18 million. Not worth that in the slightest bit and you can debate this all you want. I loved him and worshipped him after his breakout year with us but he is slowing down and the league is catching up to him and he is no longer able to do what he used to. He is too worried about public perception now, he won’t run when he should now and tries to force passes to be a “passing” QB. I cannot possibly pay this man 18 million if he continues to play like this, I would be happy to negotiate 10 of that and give him 8 million. Will he take that? I don’t know but I think he would and continue in the city that gave him a chance right out of prison. He is not the whole problem though. This line is banged up and our Dline cannot get pressure allowing offenses to do as they please. Vick has played much better but not 18 mil good.

CUTS
Demetress Bell- where to start? The answer for us losing peters..well that worked out and im not paying this guy 9.6 million to ride the bench and be a decent backup/3rd string because he is decent. Im also assuming since our season sucks we don’t rush peters back and he heals and is still good, not elite but still good. If he wants to take a MASSIVE payout ill welcome him back but he won’t. So I think he gets cut.

Dion Lewis – he doesn’t play anymore at RB or Returner, plus I think as backups polk and brown fit what I want to do more than he does. Frees up a roster spot.

Cullen Jenkins – this one is hard. Mike Patterson is practicing and im assuming he comes back next year and can play at a productive level. He is younger and I think better then Jenkins. Him and Flecther Cox complement each other well and we have to believe in our young guys, such as thornton who is looking good. We can also always resign Landri, who I don’t see teams jumping on fast. He is due 5.5 million that will clear up.

Jason Williams
Mike Gibson
Mardy Gilyard

I desperately want to cut Babin after the first half of the season. His playboy *** was traveling the world, running with the bulls and trademarking his sack pose of “Babining” during the off season and voluntary camps then missed most of camp and preseason with a hamstring injury (think it was hamstring) only to amass 0 sacks through 7 games. Fantastic. However he is still a good pass rusher and requires the attention of the Oline. I will let him stay.

*CAP*
We are projected to be 17 million over the cap next year. Expect something to happen either way. But restructuring Vick and Nnamdi has gotten us to break even on the cap, with the cuts I have managed to get us to at about +15 on the cap. This is enough to resign some key players.

OUR scheduled 2014 free agents
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie – RESIGN – we just freed up roughly 15 million. Um give this guy a new deal. 8 million is the range of the top 10 CBs in the league and I think DRC is in the top 20-15 so I figure roughly a 5 year deal worth 25 million is around his price range (feel free to correct me, im not a contract expert). Roughly 5 mil a year is good for a top 15 CB in the league.

Colt Anderson – RESIGN- Colt is an amazing special teams player
Jon Dorenbos – RESIGN- another core special teams guy and a crucial part.
King Dunlap – RESIGN – playing well(ish) this year and he earned a nice little contract, he is the perfect backup.
Akeem Jordan- RESIGN- solid and cheap

Derek Landri-  same as last year, no initial resign. Perhaps one later.
Darryl Tapp – I am letting Tapp go, Curry is there and we still have depth.
Matt Tennant- release

FREE AGENCY – going into FA we should have 7-8 million. Not a lot but enough for these moves.

Jairus Byrd –Saftey  from Buffalo– This is our big move, I think new Buffalo will fight to keep him but I don’t see them franchising him. The bills have to resign Adam Levitre a top 5 guard in the league and then Kyle Williams a top DT in the league. I think he falls to third priority and they don’t have the Cap to franchise him for 7 mil so I think he will test out the market. He can fill in the Coleman safety and make a big impact, he can tackle and has 16 int in his short career at 26 years old. 4-5 year deal for this man. The average NFL safety salary is 1 million, which is crazy so a good safety could be in the 3-4 mil if the franchise number is 7 mil. So 4 mill a year Is a legitimate offer.

Glenn Dorsey – DT from Kansas City – Just read before you say WTF? 4 sacks in his career and playing more of a DE in the KC Defense, I don’t see a lot of interest being drawn for the former top 10 pick so I can see him testing the free agent waters. I would love to see if he could flourish in a 4-3 defense. I know people may think this is dumb but he is making 5.5 million this year, more than T cole, Babin, Patterson and Jenkins. More than any player on our D line actually. Is he worth that? Is any team going to pay him that? No and he won’t make anything NEAR that, In fact I think we could nab him for 1 million a year to 2 mil at the most. Why not? He’s been solid and he will be dirt cheap.

We don’t have the money to go out and get a top Guard the only real one I would want is Levitre from buffalo and he won’t ever make it out of there. But that opens the door for us to make a run at Byrd.

That’s that, I don’t see many other needs that we should reach for in free agency maybe some small guys with a chance to make the team.

DRAFT ASSUMPTIONS *READ*
This is so you can see my draft strategy. I am assuming that Jason Peters comes back and can play at a good level, he may not longer be elite or the best OT in football but he is still a very solid starter. In fact Our line is not bad, when healthy. I do not think we need to replace peters (yet), we do not need to replace Kelce or Herremans. The only real problems are Watkins who has been average at best and Mathis who has been very bad (this may be due to all the injuries though). we need depth that is for sure but we do not need to blow up the line and start again.
I am assuming Mike Patterson is fine, Nnamdi is still a starter (as mentioned he can still jam well, the pass rush is not hitting home exposing him deep with his lack of speed.) and Vick is starter with a long hard look at Foles.

THE Draft.
8-8 again (IF that). That’s what im seeing us as and that’s good enough for us to get the 10-16th pick. (my random decision) we have all our picks and get one for the Bunkley trade and give one for the David sims trade both believed to be 7th rounders so looks like we have 8 picks from the fokou trade to the colts.

1. Chance Warmack – OG – Alabama. Our oline isn’t as bad as it looks, with three-four starters out that’s much of the problem, Watkins and Mathis have been dreadful but I think with the starters back Mathis would play better, I haven’t much faith in Watkins but if we take Warmack he will play over one of those two and then they can battle for the other starter. Warmack is believed to be the cant miss OG in this draft so I won’t hesitate to swoop him up. Make this line solid again.

2. Matt Elam – S – Florida. You may think I’m crazy after signing Byrd and now taking a safety, and I’m also not being a homer with UF being my favorite team just listen: Elam is moving up draft boards and will declare but he is not the best safety so he could be there in the second. Byrd is a playmaker, however I’m not sold he will fix all the problems and Allen is pretty consistent but not a stud, my thinking is if Elam can beat out Allen then so be it, his contract is up soon so that’s fine, if he can’t he will still see the field, he plays all over for UF, he plays slot and a kind of Rover safety at times. This would make our secondary a legit strength with the two new additions because if the pass rush hits home, NNamdi can cover 10 yards and jam as well as DRC then with Byrd and Allen and Elam in the slot we have a good coverage unit.

3. Kasheem Greene – OLB – Rutgers. This guy has been the entire defense of Rutgers this year. At 6’1” 230 he isn’t a huge LB but he is athletic and can tackle. He would be perfect on the outside across from kendricks and Ryans. Jordan is solid but not a NFL starter and I think Greene who can tackle can cover TEs and running backs as well as fill the hole on running plays. Win-win. (other options. Gerald Hodges?)

4. Seantrel Henderson – RT – Miami. I still believe Herremans if a good option at RT but he will need a replacement soon and we need to have depth and give this guy time to learn. He has played very well for Miami and may not declare but you see kids declaring all over the place and think why? I think he has the tools to be a starter and if he does extremely well and can start we could even move Herremans back to OG. Not saying that will happen it’s just an option.

5. Da’Rick Rogers – WR – Tennesee Tech. If you know college football you know Rogers was a huge talent at Tennessee before getting kicked off for failed drugs tests. People still love Tyrann Mathieu and want to give him a chance after two times so why not try out a 1st round talent WR? This is the range we would need to make a move to get him as other teams would think the same thing. At 6’3” 210 lbs he could be the big body so many fans want and we could use on the outside.

6. Jordan Reed- TE – Florida. He hasn’t had a huge year in terms of stats, however I can tell you he is a big time athlete and can help out in blocking and receiving. He is a junior but I have heard from a lot of UF recruiting bloggers he will declare but I can’t tell you why from a stat point. He has potential to be a starting nfl tight end, but I’m just going off his projected range 4-6. If he declares he will look real good in the combine and should go before this but we could snag him in a late round like this.

7a. Kenny Tate – OLB – Maryland. He has had a few injuries and Maryland has had a rough year but this guy is a big time athlete I have loved at Maryland and I want to take the 7th round risk on him. Was once a safety and now a LB, he could maybe work his way into rotation and play special teams.

7b. Alex Carder – QB – Western Michigan. Might as well take a shot on someone. Can cut him in camp if he sucks.

UDFA
Only guy I want here is Greg Reid the CB from FSU. 1-2 round range but has major character issues and just had a season ending injury, why not take a shot. This is assuming he picks here. UDFA have their pick of who they want to go to.

Final assumptions – we will attack CB next year and a top QB, if vick is terrible or foles is not starting QB caliber. we could also attack line again if there is still a glaring hole, as well as D-line is the pass rush continues to struggle.

Projected Depth Chart (before cuts)

QB- Vick/ Foles , Edwards, Carder
RB – McCoy, Brown/Polk
FB – Havili
WR x – Maclin, Rogers
WR y – Jackson, Cooper,
WR slot – Avant, Johnson
TE – Celek, Reed, Harbor
LT – Peters, Dunlap
LG – Warmack, Watkins
C – Kelce, Reynolds
RG – Mathis, Kelly , Menkin
RT – Herremans, Henderson

DE – Babin, Graham, Hunt
DT – Cox, Thornton
DT – Patterson, Dorsey
DE – Cole, Curry
OLB – Kendricks, Matthews/Tate
MLB Ryans, Chaney
OLB- Greene, Jordan
CB -  Asomugha, Boykin
CB – Rodgers-Cromartie, Hughes/Marsh
(Slot) – Elam, Boykin
FS – Byrd, Coleman, Sims
SS – Allen, Elam, Anderson

P - McBriar
K - Henery

Just did this for fun..thoughts?

Yep its time..... I agree to try to work something out with Vick, however a two year 8M.  Take it or leave it, you have one minn to sign.   This team will not contend till 14' or 2015.   So whats Vick offer...?   I start Foles and Vicks my backup....

Are we keeping Maclin....?

Byrd is also one of my main FA targets.

Seantrel Henderson is a huge man....huge.... Is he our starter at RT...?

Will get back later...

I expect more like a 6-10 season.....

Picking around 8-11 I trade down to 15-19, then doen again 22-26.....

All very good points Montana. The QB situation is the most difficult to sort out. We can make a legitimate case for virtually every position on the field and why we could upgrade it..but at QB our only options are Vick, Foles or draft. no FA and nobody out there to draft for. I start Vick if he can still perform and give Foles his shot if not. I don't want to take Barkley or G Smith in the draft. I'm not sold on any QBs in this draft. Vick or Foles is our only option unfortunately..and if we take say Barkley..then we still need a guard. Then a safety in the 3rd and the quality of those picks decrease..I don't know..in my opinion we have to keep Vick even if 8 million is too much it's better then 18 haha

To answer your Maclin question I want to keep him, he's not a FA yet, but we do need to figure out his contract. Toughest and most motivated WR on our team but he's a glass figure and gets hurt so much I want him back for a decent price.

I think Nnamdi is still an nfl starter..true he is not nearly as good as in Oakland which is why he needs to take a dramatic pay cut, probably bigger then what I stated, but I wanted to keep him..I just think if we get better safety play over top him he would be much better. He can still jam with the best CBs in the league but after ten yards either the pass rush has to hit home or the safeties have to help him...neither is happening..I think we could get one more year from him then get our replacement.

And with sentreal Henderson..yeah he's massive and I like that. I think herremans still starts over him but this guy could work his way into the starting lineup even if he slides in to guard. With him and warmack and a healthy line I think we make a huge improvement allowing Vick to play better.
