I liked the kid's performance, rookie, first action, no first team reps, I thought he did fine, actually more than fine. But if I'm a head coach who cares about the team's future I save Foles and do not subject him to this line. I remember when Kolb didn't have happy feet.

Of course Reid will start Foles, he will because the only thing that can save his job now is a new young stud QB who will need the advanced coaching only he can offer (cough...cough). So if Foles shows something the next few weeks maybe he can sell Lurie one last time...just maybe.

A coach who puts the team first starts Edwards. In Andrew's world nothing comes before him though, not friends, not family, not loyalty, nothing. So don't hold your breath.

Yeah, let's keep him nice and safe.

Maybe we can bring him in when the NFL starts mandating that players where those padded sumo wrestler suits.

You just can't take a risk with a player with this kind of potential.

I was getting ready to start this exact thread. Complete agreement. If you want to develop Foles, or at least give him a chance, you start the veteran  Edwards and have Foles continue to carry the clip board.

It is better for him and for the long term success of the organization for Foles to watch and learn -  in the film room, meetings, from the sideline - than to throw him out there against defenses pinning their ears back ready to shake his confidence and break his neck.

Who says that Reid even wants to sell Lurie as to why he should stay another year? IMO, I think Reid has checked out and is just going through the motions now. He wants a fresh start somewhere else and will get it. He won't deliberately sabotage the team becuase of the respect he has for his players, but he's certainly not going to overextend himself and prove that he deserves another shot.

Yep, you need to know what he can do before the offseason of course, but wait. Give him the last two, three games max. Give Mudd more time to work on this mess.

Possible, but I doubt it. Look at his history, Machiavellian all the way, all about him, all about advancing himself and keeping his job baby. One internal power grab after another, kids get arrested and die, misses hardly a beat, one of his best friends scape goated. Whatever it takes to seize power and hold it.

Well see they HAVE to see what they have in him.  However you IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM HAVE TO THROW THE BALL 45X  A GAME. Dont worry even if they started Edwards behind this line the way Andy and Marty call a game before long Kafka will be back in there and well he didnt last too long last time either.

I don't think we know enough about Foles to treat him like he's our future QB. He needs to demonstrate that he has that potential over the next seven games. We need to get a sense of what we have, because if he doesn't look like he has "it" then we need to seriously adjust our free agency/ draft plans.

I would rather Foles start and see what he can so the Eagles have a better idea of the QB situation for next year than to have Edwards start and have no clue what to do about QB for next year.

Remember Aikman's first year?  How many Super Bowls did he win?  Look, I worry for Foles too but if he's going to succeed, no better time than now to get his feet wet.

The Eagles can not wait for a new off.line to be built over at least 2 yrs to protect Foles .He needs to start.

Agree with the OP about Edwards, although not his vitriol about Reid. Put Edwards in and don't risk Floes until JP, Kelce and the Toddfather are back.

Yes, I know, he didn't take the beating Vick generally does, but that was because they max protected or ran the ball more with Foles than the did with Vick.

If they don't start him,  he will never live up to whatever potential he has.   Foles has to play so the Eagles know what they got.

He is just going to have to get the ball out quicker is all I know.   Hellfire the way most of you talk it wasn't the O-Line it was Vick holding the ball to long anyway,  so why not put it to the test?

You don't need seven games to determine what he is. Three's enough. The kid has a spark, he may be something. I'd like to find out without crushing him in the process.

I see Rock's point about protecting Foles but blackskimmer is right on. They need to find out about Foles and they can (must) game plan/play call and utilize max protect schemes to help protect him. Hell, they don't have to play to win these upcoming games - there's not much point in that now. But they can put Foles under center, RUN THE BALL, use slants, outs, crossing plays and maybe take the OCCASIONAL shot down field. This will enable the organization to get a good look at the kid's arm strength, poise, leadership, intangibles, etc. without putting him at undue risk of injury like they did with MV.

It's critical to find out whether Foles can be the guy or not - three games may be too small of a sample size to make that determination. If he can prove that he's a starting caliber NFL QB with some strong upside then the rebuilding may be significantly quicker. If not, and they have to draft and groom another guy, it could take an additional 2-3 (or more) years to even be competitive again.

three is enough? so after kolb's two 300 yard games, in his 3rd game you knew he sucked?

I've been saying this since the beginning. If you're going to bench Vick, go with Edwards. At least he has game-day experience.

Maybe earlier in the season or if this team was in contention and not such a disappointing group of underachievers. But now?

No - we need to see what Foles has and if he can be the starter here. If he can play it changes our priorities in the draft & FA. If he can't we need to know and then figure out what to do about QB (i.e. high draft pick or overpay in FA).

Ya I would like to see Foles to play more but it would be smart to start edwards instead. Oh well this team has been making bad decisions all year so I am not surprised. This is a move by Andy Reid just trying to save his job.

Thats a bit harsh don't you think?
