I will never understand that line of thinking. I think I know where you're going with it, but to me a human life always trumps an animals.
Always.
no one is arguing that Eephraim...but what often gets forgotten with Vick defenders is this:
motivation..if a guy is out driving, and ACCIDENTALLY hits and kills someone, does that make him evil? It's a question of history. Donte Stallworth had no prior history of abberant behavior..if he had been popped for DUI several times and then accidentallyhit someone, then there would be a case.
compare that to Mike who had a history of cruel and sadistic behavior, despite that it was animals, THAT'S NOT THE POINT. Cruelty towards helpless others (be it animals or humans) points to some disturbing trends and tendencies, and some serious anti-social tendencies.
Mike 'paid his dues' by serving prison time, but remember the prison time was not for animal torture,it was for gambling across state lines, animal cruelty was only considered a misdemeanor. To Mike's credit he has worked hard to make it a felony with his efforts through the humane society, and I applaud him for that, in fact I'm one of those guys that has been saying "Let him prove that he is rehabilitated."
And that is the key, remorse..simply doing prison time does not make one remorseful. Remorse is an internal concept that happens when the reality and scope of ones actions finally attains clarity, and I hope that Mike is
remorseful for his actions. All evidence points to the fact that he may be....we won't know until his playing days are over if he has become an advocate for animal rights for selfish reasons (to save/protect his career) or for the right reasons (an effort to end injustice and cruelty).
