Eagles injury update: Vick still far from return

Michael Vick is far from returning to action, and Nick Foles is preparing to make his NFL starting debut Sunday against the Redskins.

Head coach Andy Reid said Vick is feeling better from the concussion he sustained against Dallas and isn’t coping with severe headaches anymore, but hasn’t yet started the NFL-mandated concussion recovery program and is still away from the NovaCare Complex to get rest.

Vick hasn’t yet been ruled out for Sunday’s game in Landover, Md., but Reid said he has no idea when Vick will be ready to start taking concussions exams. Head trainer Rick Burkholder will provide an update on Vick’s condition later this week.

Right guard Danny Watkins, who missed the past three starts with a severe ankle injury, is expected to return to practice today. Watkins said he expected to start Sunday but will test his lateral movement -- which had been the issue as of late -- today at practice.

Wide receiver Jason Avant (hamstring) has already been ruled out against the ’Skins, but Jeremy Maclin (back) participated in the morning walkthrough and will see if he can practice.

Rookie running back Chris Polk (foot) is also out against the Redskins. Wide receiver Mardy Gilyard (hamstring) is progressing.
