The defense was not the problem against Detroit.

Looking at just the Detroit game - Andy Reid needs to "know" his opponent. The Lions were the NFLs #1 4th quarter scoring offense and in fact had more 4th quarter points then they did in the other 3 quarters combined. So how do you difuse this - by limiting their opportunities.

Andy and Marty consistently demonstrate a total lack of understanding for situational football. The offense doesn't get full credit for a lead - it exists because the defense held the other team to fewer points - the defense shouldn't get full blame for losing the lead - particularly when the offense fails to do their job. The Lions scored to pull within 10 (23to13) with 10:29 to go - Scoring a TD or FG on the ensuing drive would be nice but what the Eagles needed more than anything was to eat some clock - it was still a 2 score game and again - Detroit had #1 scoring offense in 4th quarter - we want to limit their opportunities.

The Lions defensive line had been crushing the Eagles offensive line all game preventing deep routes but the short to intermediate passes were working - the sprint draw was also getting shut down consistently but the tackle trap the Eagles had run 3 or 4 times produced good results. So what does Marty Reid call - a bomb to DJ - naturally Vick is pressured and has to step up / slide left before launching the ball - short - 1 play - interception. I will say Vick shouldn't have thrown the ball once he had to move and reset - but it was totally the wrong play call.

Ok - so the Lions drive down the field and score another TD - it's now a 3 point game - but no worries - only 3:32 left on the clock - surely the offense can redeem themselves by running the clock out - nope - 3 and out. Shady made a mistake by going out of bounds and that hurt - and I know the 3rd down call was there - if Suh doesn't knock that ball down Maclin probably scores. If a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his butt.

Hey - no problem in OT - the Eagles won the toss and the team winning the coin toss in OT was 5-0 so far this year (because the Eagles hadn't played any OT games) - surely the Eagles can matriculate down the field using what was working late in the 2nd quarter through the 3rd quarter - no - of course Marty Reid try for the kill shot right out of the gate - they couldn't be more predictable - the Lions Defensive line has been blowing up the Eagles OLine all game and they're trying to win the game in OT on 1 play - SACK /SACK/Throw away - punt from the Endzone - F the Defense yet again - and then blame the DC for the loss.

Priceless.

Listen, Juan was not a good defensive coordinator. He wasn't even a defensive coordinator. This defensive has the talent (and still had the morale and discipline early on) to be a fierce unit. The fact that Juan had them playing OK with simple defense is more a testament to the players than Juan. A real DC would have had this unit playing top notch D from week 1 and never let up....and Reid's shortcomings would be masked. Hmmm, sounds like the JJ years....
