He's got a name people recognize and they don't remember anything in Tampa outside of 2002. They forgot that the team never won another playoff game. They forgot that the team had an epic collapse in 2008. They forgot that the team went through more than 10 different starting QBs under Gruden.

Sean Peyton had one good year with one of the best QBs in the NFL. He also had one of the best DCs. I don't think he will be the answer, nor do I believe he will sign anywhere but the Saints.

The Eagles and every other team that was interested in him have next to no shot at getting him because of a couple reasons.
1) The NFL voided his contract extension not the Saints. The Saints still want him and he still wants to be there.
2) No team can talk to him until after the Super Bowl which gives the Saints (at this point) a 3 month head start.
The situation would be different if the Saints voided the extension and made it clear that he was done in New Orleans but that's not what happened.

Unless Payton makes it to FA, then break the bank/mint/state treasury/IMF and Bill Gates' piggy bank for him.

Parcells will be 72 before the start of next season.

HUH? Dungy would have won his first with Tampa but Gruden stole it. His defense in Tampa was smart and tough. When he got to Indy they had NO defense and NO running game. Of course you ride a top 10 all time QB's coattails, but he almost got a superbowl with Brad Johnson. The guy used the personel he had and made them better.
We would be lucky to have Dungy.

Andy can find out at the news conference for Mora that he no longer is employed.

his style of challenging his guys is just what this team needs, i agree it would be short-term but you never know what could happen in that short time
after a few years yes it gets real old real fast

The NO situation could still hold some significance potentially though. Joe Vitt has the Saints playing well now, who knows where they would be if he hadn't been suspended for the first 6 games. If he keeps them rolling forward and goes on a playoff run, it might be enticing to bring him into Philly in the offseason after Payton resumes his role as NO head coach.

I don't think Gruden is the right guy for the job. I'm not really sure who is, there are a lot of really good coordinators out there, who I think can coach players really well, but I'm not sure if they are ready for the responsibility of managing a whole coaching staff, the draft and everything else.

Johnson says that he takes more pride in what he did as the Cowboys’ general manager than in what he did as the Cowboys’ head coach.
“I was the personnel director there with the Cowboys,” Johnson said. “My pride was collecting the talent and putting together the team that won the Super Bowls.”
