When Dave states:

They were a 9-7 team that reached the playoffs and they followed the adage that every team follows: You've got to be in it to win it. The Giants were in the playoffs and they won the Super Bowl.
And the Giants lead the East with a 6-4 record as they prepare for Sunday night's game against  the visiting Packers. It's a huge game for so many reasons for so many teams.  A New York loss would push the Giants down to 6-5 and the Eagles are 3-7 and ...
OK, I'll stop. The Eagles have lost six straight games, and some of those losses have been among the ugliest in recent time. The goal is to have a one-game winning streak, rather than entertain any talk of closing the game in the NFC East.

http://www.philadelp...37-a5ff945ec6dc

And when posting that with a Greenbay loss and a win on Monday Night gets you back into the thick of the hunt is a Joke that DOES belong in Rant and Rave, only a raving idiot would make those type of statements where in past years that was what this board was all about,

http://boards.philad...les-win-monday/

I remember the year Tampa lost four straight and the Eagles made the playoffs,  and the green lips of the I just used the Kooolaid faithful was strong, but something is different this year, it is a total and consistent team effort that is lacking week to week, aside from the 4 point win margin of the three wins, this team is acknowledged and accepted by everyone as a total disapointment, a nightmare, and in need of a change.

And only the players on the field can change that:  And guess what?
NOBODY, NOBODY watching the play and skill of these players can reasonably expect that to happen.

I posted this to make the point that we need more than a new head coach, firing Juan, firing the PR guy.
We need a new damn roster top to bottom.
Because this team smells of quit and that stench doesn't go away unless you cut it like dead flesh
Oddly the eagles are still in the hunt math wise
But not a single credible person who watches football can do anything but ridicule that assertion.

THAT IS HOW BAD this team is and that is why all of them should be gone!

Even the fans have quit ???

The fans don't matter. They don't play the friggen games. You think the players care that the fans don't care ??
Though it may not seem it, the players are ALWAYS thinking they have shot at the playoffs until mathematically eliminated.
And sadly with how bad the league is, and specifically how bad the NFC East is, yes they are still in it.

Incredibly if the Giants lose this week (which to me is almost certain),, the crappy NFC East is probably going to be won with a 7-9 or 8-8 record.
2 weeks ago I thought it would likely be 9-7 or MAYBE 8-8. Now I would almost bet my house that there is no shot that any of the mess in the East could get to 9 wins.
Especially if the Giants lose this week.
And even more sad then how bad the East is, the rest of the NFL is just as bad.

Yesterday was the 1st time since 1971 that I didn't watch every second of the Thanksgiving day NFL games.
I actually did not see 1 second of any games yesterday. And it appears by the scores to be another dreadful display by the NFL.
Looking at the box scores tells me it was the same crap.
*terrible defenses
*piss poor OL blocking
*tons of penalties
*turnovers galore

Another typical embarrassing NFL game day.

Bottom line... When you can only win 3 out of 10, what on Earth is supposed to suggest that suddenly the team will win 6 straight. The losses have been ugly, and those few wins weren't much prettier.

This is a bad team, plain and simple. I'd rather they keep losing now and just get a good draft pick. An actual Top 5, not those stupid mediocre 14-18 spot picks.

Vick cares, you can tell, anyone who takes snaps behind this oline should be up a medal.  The guy took a massive beating and never said boo, and his results are some what questionable but his effort never was.

People can certainly not like Vick. But NOBODY can ever question his effort this year.
I do not like Vick in the least. But I can tell you that if the rest of the players put forth the effort he has this year, the team wouldn't be in the shape it's in currently.
To me, change nothing else but effort and this team would at least have 2 more wins. Likely 3.

Record is one thing, there have been some very good 3-7 teams.  But you have to go back and look at the last 5 games the Eagles have played.

Our offense is inept. We've played some of the worst defenses in the league and made them look amazing.  New Orleans, Dallas, Washington, Detroit.  None of those are easy games... but we should have been able to put points on the board against those teams.

Our pass defense is aiming for records, and not in the good way. The stats for our last 4 games are insane. We've basically given up 4 straight borderline perfect passing games.  That takes effort.

Our run defense might be the worst part of the team. Statistically we don't look horrible against the run, but our pass defense is made to look worse by the fact we need 6 players to be ready to tackle one very run, because 5 of them will miss.   A DT led our team in tackles last game, which might not sound unreasonable, but they weren't tackles behind the line of scrimmage, half the tackles he was making were downfield as he had to chase down players from behind.

I'd like to walk back on a previous comment I made. I've been of the mindset that losing all our games henceforth won't be a bad thing as we can parlay the high (position 1-3) draft pick into other draft picks which would be instrumental in upgrading this team. But seeing as though we could make it into the playoffs I'll say that if we beat the Panthers then we need to run the table. But if they lose even one game then losing all the way should be our approach going forward. The high pick would help in attracting coaches that can make a difference, and the infusion of talent would definitely make us better in the long run. I'd rather be a bad 3-13 team with multiple high position picks than an equally bad 8-8 team with no additional picks that doesn't make it to the playoffs.

Your above statements are so very true. And you are correct about records.
Sometimes teams have great records and just aren't that good. Like the Falcons of 2 years ago.
And some teams have terrible records but actually are pretty good but lots of weird things happened. Luke the 2005 Eagles.
But this team is as ugly as it's record. Especially the last 3 games.

You look back now and understand how bad this entire league is considering that I believe there are actually a couple college teams that could give the Eagles a competitive game.
Yet they somehow managed ..................
1 - beat what some people consider 1 of the better teams in the Ravens.
2 - beat what many people consider another top team in the Giants
3 - out play a Steelers team only to lose it at the end.

Sorry folks. I get the old "any given Sunday" crap. Bt my god, how bad is this league when you have such an all around inept team like the Eagles beating those teams. Sad. Very sad basically unwatchable league right now.

Even in their best years under Reid you never got the feeling that they could go toe to toe with the better more physical teams. Maybe for a game or two but not an entire playoff run. I'm tired of finesse.

I guess the point in posting this thread is the fact that I have never seen a team look so miserable, where even the team cannot with any sort of credibility with 6 games to go and 1.5 games out of representing the NFC east be so totally screwed up on all parts of the game as this team is.  I have to think back to the Kotite years.  I would prefer a coach like Mike Singletary to what we have now.

"I'm from the old school" and when you look at the good things that San Fran is doing now allot of that goes back to Singletary.
I guess I wanted to take a break from goofing with Hadoop to say that this team is rotten from the head down and the bottom up and all of the between.
Really a dissaster of a team, sad, soft, and punks that other teams laugh at when they knock somebody stupid

Ohhh and Stupid azzzz Chuckee will be in the house Monday Night and my thoughts are he is another LOSER!

In 2008, Gruden was rewarded with a contract extension through the 2011 season. On November 30, Gruden earned his 100th win, against the New Orleans Saints. Going into December the Buccaneers were on pace to make the playoffs, claim a bye week and have home field advantage. However, the Buccaneers went winless in the month of December, in no small part due to a defensive collapse that saw the team give up an average of 30.75 points per game. On December 28 the Buccaneers were eliminated from making the playoffs by the Oakland Raiders, the team Gruden left for Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers ended the season with four losses in a row, and Jon Gruden was fired by the Buccaneers on January 16, 2009, after seven seasons with the team.[14][15]

People on EMB who blabber about this idiot being a coach just piss me off also.

Singletary reminds me of Larry Bowa. Preached old school but couldn't get through to modern players. Laid the groundwork though.

I also want no part of Gruden.

Preached old school but couldn't get through to modern players. Laid the groundwork though

Let me take those two one at a time:
modern players?  Like Babin? Like Mathews?  Or Desean?  Two were complaining that the fans weren't kissing their butts when their performance didn't warant it, the other has been an ongoing issue no matter where he has played, and Deseans commitment last year didn't warrant the contract.  Thats my opinion, give me a player who plays old school and I'll show you a team contending.  Desean ought to try and make a living rapping.

Laid the groundwork though that he did do by not putting up with "modern players" like AR has done which is to treat these players as if they were troubled teens, given the option in "near skill players" Singletary avoided the me-first and the Mesean types.  Character does matter, and wonder why Minnesota is suddenly relevant?  Somebody is laying the groundwork.

We see what all the high dollar acquisitions have acheived, and then you see a team of no-name palyers with a solid smash-mouth and blue-collar attitude and all the gimmicks and finesse and one-trick pony players lose when championship games are on the line.  Toughness isn't coached, it's selected.  And when watching Houston into the playoffs remember that tough teams can play as many QTR's (10) in Days (10) and still win two OT's in the TOUGH WEEK or what is called here by this entitlement team a trap game.

I would love to have Singletary, and when MNF is on I'm sure Gruden will have something to say but he will not remind the viewers that he stunk up Tampa with a 4-game collapse allowing the Eagles the wildcard spot that his team crumbled upon.

Singletary would be ideal for this city and this team

If Dave said the sky was blue, I would automatically think it was green. I couldn't imagine how nauseating it must be to be forced to make positive spins out of this situation when the author likely knows this team isn't getting anywhere near the playoffs.

If Dave actually does, he isn't drinking the Coolio-Aid, he's swimming in a pool of it.

I can't believe they censor the drink on this forum.

Almost every team is terrible.  After about week 6 I've hardly watched any NFL; I've been getting more into college.  Every game is just watching pathetic whine-arse players, pathetic teams, being coached by pathetic coaches.  Eagles games are the ONLY ones I watch, and I can barely do that..half the time I doze off and think about what else I could be doing with my time (this has never happened to me until this last season and a half..).

Funny the Coolio Aid is an EMB trademark..  But you want to see the green-lipped article of the week?

First off, it all depends on the Eagles beating the Carolina Panthers on Nov. 26 and on the Giants losing to the Green Bay Packers the night before. If that happens, the Giants will be 6-5 and only one game ahead of the Redskins and Cowboys, as well as two games ahead of the Eagles. Afterwards, the Eagles will visit the Cowboys on Dec. 2 before the Giants visit the Redskins that Monday night.
Philadelphia then needs to beat Dallas, which isn’t out of the question after the Cowboys tanked against the Redskins on Thanksgiving at home. After that, the Redskins would do everyone a favor by beating the Giants. In that scenario, the NFC East would become a four-team race again – where no one has a winning record.
Should all of this happen, the Redskins and Giants would be tied for first place at 6-6, while the Eagles and Cowboys would both be one game back at 5-7. With Philadelphia facing both Washington and New York in its final four weeks, it could conceivably take its destiny back into its hands, if it got hot enough to start winning again.

http://www.examiner....-nfc-east-again

I remember Reggie White in Greenbay at the end of a blowout game taking "offense" with the other team, and going out on the field and letting the other team know it.  Everything you need to know about the Eagles can be summed up with the Redskins  laughing   after the concusion on Shady.  Not a shove on the player who late hit Foles.  When you are down as far as the Eagles were you have to be aware that the final two minutes of a game are a statement about a team.  And that is what I find most disturbing about this roster.
