James,
Th Eagles are best served if Howie Roseman is put in charge of player contracts only. A real GM, that can be titled anything Jeffrey wants, say V.P. of Football Operations for example, must be brought in from outside. Finding a great one is, in my opinion, all that matters now. Everything hinges on what the person in that position decides..who the HC is, who the Eagles draft, what trades are made, who works in both the pro and college sides of the player personnel department, etc., etc., etc.
I do not believe that Howie Roseman is that guy, so since football operations, and really the fate of the team, starts and ends with that one hire, it is clearly, the most important thing on Jeffrey Lurie's to-do list.
Let's see what he does. It'll tell us all we needs to know.

Not to mention that the talent brought in was way overrated.

All of those things are a direct result of Reid, & that is why he must go.

Exactly. The personnel philosophy here has essentially been 'fast and soft', and a decade and a half of drafting and signing players that fit that mold has to eventually take its toll.
We're seeing the toll in all its 'glory'.

Lurie likes a bean counter in charge of personnel decisions, emphasizing salary cap mastery more than talent evaluation. .
Jeff Lurie has owned the team for around 20 years, and the Eagles are no better off in 2012 than they were when he bought the team. One Super Bowl appearance, no Super Bowl wins. He's failed the leadership test as an owner, embracing mediocrity from his head coach and front office personnel. He's afraid to make bold decisions, and fails to hold his head coach and front office personnel accountable.
The Eagles are now a punchline, but I'm not laughing. I don't know how Jeff Lurie can look at himself in the mirror.

Can't disagree with a thing you say, except to hope that the fact that the fan base finally seems to be rousing from the coma it has been in the last 4-5 years pushes him into making the necessary decisions to keep this thing from completely falling off the cliff.
If it already hasn't, that is.

The sad thing about it is that if you'd told me back when he bought the team that Lurie would end up being that kind of an owner, I'd never have believed it. He seemed like an aggressive, no BS guy back then. Of course we were all so glad just to be rid of that putrid weasel Braman maybe things just appeared that way.
Then again perhaps he really did change along the way. His relationship with Reid has both blinded & softened him to a point where the organization has descended into freefall.

KOJO,
Maybe Jeffrey Lurie is just...Norman Braman Light.....a soft sell version.

The players who have come in as FAs have been disappointing but a lot of the blame also falls on the coaching and philosophy. How can ALL the players drafted and brought in as FA have failed?

I'm sure watching Vick endlessly fumble the season down the tubes with no consequences whatsoever didn't help with motivation any.
