Is it wrong to hope the Eagles lose the last 5 games?

I want to see players do well, but at the same time I know the playoffs are out of the picture and want the Eagles to have a high draft pick next year.

NFL AM was talking about the Eagles playing the spoiler role this year and it made me kind of uneasy thinking about the Eagles some how going on a tear and win 3 or 4 of the last 5.

It just kind of sucks being a fan in this position. On one hand, you always want your team to win, but on the other you want your team to be able to get the best players in the following draft.

The Eagles are as likely to go on a tear as the Chiefs.

as a fan i believe in cheering for your team to win

no matter what the record is and who is in the game

if foles is at QB and stevie wonder is playing Oline i am cheering for them to win the game

to each its own

as a competitor i dont believe in losing ever helping

We're not going to do it anyway but given we look to have serious needs at OL, Safety, LB and possibly QB (in the worst QB board for years), Who do you take, as far as I can see there aren't any stud safety prospects

You can pretty much bet that we choose the one out of Joeckel, Jones, Warmack or T'eo that turns out to be just OK while the other three come up blue chip.

I agree that it is unlikely, but stranger things have happened.

That is kind of the internal dilemma I am having. I never want to lose (or my team), but if by losing now when wins are meaningless can POTENTIALLY help me when wins do matter it almost seems worth it (ends justify the means?).

Well, if you're hoping to obtain a high draft pick instead of just hoping the Eagles lose that is alright. I think the best mindset at this point is "Okay, we're not making the playoffs, we have to see what this Nick Foles kid can do, I'd also like to see some of the younger guys on defense get more reps. Well, the Babin release has helped, now if we can lose enough games to ensure a stud in the draft and begin rebuilding I'll be rooting for wins next year."

It's like sacrificing a season for a possible era of SB contending. If Indianapolis had won just enough games it miss out on Luck or RG3 they'd probably still have no hope.

I'm not going to cheer for them to lose, but I'm also not going to assume that they are going to win another thing.

IMO the eagles will win 3 more games once Vick and McCoy returns. They will beat the Bucs, Redskins and Giants (who will have the division by then) Finish the season 6-10 and improve on Andy career record.

No it doesn't.

The '08 Dolphins, '99 Colts, '99 Rams, '04 Steelers, '04 Chargers, '01 Bears, '97 Jets, etc. would all disagree.

It could if we weren't dumping our coach and probably overhauling our roster next year

We're old at key positions though.
Also if the new coach we get is worth anything he'll bring a new culture on his own

Absolutely correct. Losing is a poison in the mind, and losing deliberately is a cancer.

And there's no reason for it, since there are no garauntees in the draft anyway, not even in the top 5.

I couldn't agree more. I usually look forward to Sundays watching football all day, not just the Eagles. This year has been different. I'll watch the Eagles and maybe catch some of another game, but that is it. I think I wasted $ on NFL Sunday Ticket this year. At this point, I can't wait for this season to be over.

On another note, I got the Sunday Ticket for free.

I'm done with all the "RAH! RAH! I WANT THE EAGLES TO WIN EVERY GAME!" BS. This team is playing mistake-prone, uninspired football at best. All of our best players are either out or hurting or depressed about the current losing streak. Reid's already said it's time to see what the rest of the team can do. (Hey, thanks for that Andy! Makes the new HCs job that much easier!)  In essence that makes Sunday's Cowboy game like a pre-season game for us. Only difference is: the Eags 'pre-season' team will be playing against a 'reg-season' Cowboys team and will likely get crushed. Nobody in their right mind is expecting the Eags to win this game in Dallas. Said another way: I'll be shocked if Romo & his crew don't beat the crap outta this team. Last I looked the spread was Eags +9. This team is now  MIRED  in a loser's mentality anyways. And if all of our best players aren't on the field what kind of 'talent' does that leave us with?? The Eags are looking at major changes if not outright rebuilding. As long as we're on the bottom let's get the best draft pick possible and try to come back in 2 or 3 years. I figure it's at least 1 - 2 years before the Eags are competitive again. We have too many problems & holes to plug in one year. And let's not forget: for every RG3 in the top of the draft there's also a bunch of JPPs (who the Eags passed on) and Seth Joyners hidden in the later picks. Just lose, baby!
