Let's Stop Kidding Ourselves, the Eagles Players are Jumping off this Sinking Ship and Nobody can Blame them.

Why should these guys risk injury and embarrassment on a doomed season.  Lets get real, these "injuries" all seemed to happen when the probability of an Eagles post-seaon disappeared. This is love for us (fans), but this is a career for them.  Vick has only a few more years to play, why should he be sent out on a field to take unreasonable punishment due to a makeshift front line. At the other extreme, LeSean is young with a whole career ahead of him, why should he risk one of those season ending freak knee injuries (ala Adrian Peterson) or a bounty induced wallop, syke we all know bounties don't exist (wink).

We need to think about next season.  Get the young guys reps, they will be that much better next year.  Protect the veterans from injury and demoralization. In a strange way we could have the deepest lines, on both sides of the ball, becasue of the injuries to starters this year. Next year the Eagles will fly, just when no one expects them to!  What do you think Philly?

Hey man, good first post and welcome to the boards.  I agree with just about all of what you said, with the exception of the depth of the lines.  The schemes may be holding the guys down on some level, but at the same time, some of these kids don't have the talent to excel at this level.  You simply need excellent lines to consistently win in the NFL.  As for the DL, I think the hype before the season was the clearest example yet of the Philadelphia hype machine raising expectations to ridiculous levels.  Article after article on Tapp's speed and Hunt's explosiveness, 5 deep at the DE spots, etc etc etc.  I fear that we're becoming the new dallas cowboys when it comes to a media darling that doesn't have nearly the level of talent that the machine feeding itself suggests.  As for the OL, the irony is that if the injuries come back, and we switch to an actual scheme, we may be more ok than we think.  I believe Peters will still be a rock at LT, and Kelce's knee wasn't that bad, just really bad timing to shelve him for the year.  That's two huge improvements right there.  Herremans may have been exposed a bit this year, but I still trust him on the line as well, and Mathis is still a top ranked LG.  So, in other words, If we add a dominant RT, hopefully in the draft, and swing herremans to RG, we might be there.  Or, draft a RT and play him at RG until he gets his feet under him.  I'd still hit the OL hard in the first few rounds, but I think when our boys come back we're in better shape there than the play this year suggests.  Welcome again

I like this optimism on the O'line but at qb who do we put back there?  I dont think personally Foles is the answer, I like Vick with more protection and better decisions. What do you think?

Truthfully I think Vick, but by default, and probably only if he restructures.  I imagine he would.  Foles has looked like a rook, and I think if you allow vick to play in a scheme that emphasizes his strengths he can be effective.  asking him to play hero just doesn't work.  I don't think you have a franchise guy in this draft.  It wouldn't surprise me to see a draft day trade either move down with our first or trade a second for next years first in order to stock up on ammo to grab a franchise guy next year.  It's a huge decision though, we've seen the way that can help (RG3) or kill (Bradford) a franchise's rebuilding efforts

I agree totally. I dont think Vick is an elite qb by anymeans right now but I do think that he could keep us as a contender with a good Oline.  With our high draft pick were gonna get I think we should grab the top Tackle, and the rest of the draft work on the defense.  I hate seeing what RG3 is going to be in the future and he sits right in our division as the type of qb Philly traditionally has in the fold.  And I agree about no real QB prospects this year in the draft, bc Matt Barkley is gonna be just like Carson Palmer or Matt Leinhart in the NFL.  A qb with all that talent in skill positions in college, masking his flaws when he becomes a pro, when the playing fields more level.

The staff is part of it, too. Some of these "season-ending injuries" could be pushed to 3-4 week injuries if the staff wanted or felt they needed the players back.

The players are not abandoning the ship, but they are abandoning this particular voyage, for the reasons suggested here, and the crew is happy to provide the lifeboats.

Good Job newbie,  you are on point.  But be ready to get called all kind of bad names because some folks are not going to agree with you.  And Never mention anything about Michael Vick unless it's horrible things.  Wait until you are a veteran and you have developed thick skin.   ;)

Solid first post. It is pretty common for teams struggling to tell better players to sit down with "injuries," and for players with actual injuries to stay out longer than necessary. Get the youngins some time to build depth (something we're sorely missing right now), pick up a better draft pick, and hopefully come back strong next year

Bednarik. Bergey. Reggie. Tra. Runyan. Dawkins. Reece. Deuce. Westbrook......
These guys gave it all, regardless of score or record.
I'm not sure if this thought process of toning it down is generational or situational....I just know I miss guys like this.

All that is good but if your healthy enough competitors play! That simple.

Veterans want to help the young guys out? Play. F'in play. The message board is littered with the Eagles don't have any leaders. Time for some of these guys to get on the field whenever they're healthy. If it's next week fine, the last week - so be it. And we wonder why this organization is a mess? So many excuses. If you can play, you play - whenever that may be. It's that simple.

The eagles did this in the '06 season, anybody who had a bump or bruise they had them sit at the end of the year.

I'm with Terilyns on this. Where's your pride? Your dignity? If you get beat, you get beat. If you don't play and can? Your a quitter and you'd be somebody I'm looking to get rid of.

I understand the sentiment: if healthy play. Thats what they get paid for anyway.  But think practically. As fans, we suffer through a horrible season now, but next year we get everyone back healthy, a top draft choice (albeit a weak pool), and the opportunity to catch everyone off guard. The Eagles have been trying to escape the "dream team" shadow for the last two years.

I believe they are a good team.  I certainly think there is a lot of untapped potential. Fletch, Ryans, and KK are players you can build a D around. The younger players are going to benefit from the vets sitting. Imagine the confidence a guy like Brown is going to have coming into 2013 training camp.  I've seen swagger move a mediocre player to a good player and good player to a great player. There are a lot of places this team lacks confidence. Now, some of the younger guys get a chance to prove their value to us and to themselves.

I disagree that we need a top T/G with our top pick.  When the injury dust settles, I think the teams biggest need is going to be SS/FS. I remember (and I'm sure you do too) B. Dawkins playing like a mad man.  Blowing up piles, picking off balls, striking fear in crossing WRs and dropping back QBs.  We are desperately missing a guy like that, especially considering how much pressure we put on our CBs to cover.  IMO if we had Jim Johnson's D, even with this years O-Line, we would be a playoff contender this year. But perhaps I'll reserve this for another post.  Thanks for the comments Btw! #FixTheD-Backfield.

That's part of the problem, thinking that we're this incredibly talented team. When in reality what do you think the rest of the League thinks of the Eagles? I'm guessing that they're a bunch of chicks (no offense T) and quitters.

What happens next year if they are 3-8 again? Do they just start sitting guys again? And when does it end?

This is exactly why this team needs blown up and rebuilt. Andy Reid's style of football is stale and his type of players need to go. There are but a handful  of players to keep on both sides of the ball. All the coaching staff should be let go and the new Head Coach should be able to select his own staff.

Good first post and gotta agree. The continued beating these vets take will only frustrate them next year. Keep them fresh and healthy for next coaching staff (and God willing, GM) so we can start building properly. If young guys really step it up, we can look forward to clearing some of the excess salary off this cap (Jenkins, maybe Aso).

I cannot agree more that Andy Reid and this coaching staff need to go, but I'm not about to agree with anyone that they need to blow up the team and rebuild!!!

Barring some kind of miracle contract renegotiation, the Mike Vick era is done!!! The team however still has plenty of talented players and you don't just have a Fire Sale and tear the team apart unless it is for financial reasons or all the talent is far too old.

Heart often starts with the coaching staff. Reid has been an effective coach with this team for many years, but the wheels fell off starting last year and they have never recovered.  Mike Singletary coached a bad Niners team for 2 years yet suddenly Harbaugh transformed that same team into a winning organization...the same can happen if the Eagles get the right guy to coach this team moving forward without going into rebuilding mode!!!

For all of you saying you'd fake injuries too, you're a bunch of soft bishes just like the players on this team.
