Matt Elam (Florida FS) -- DRAFTED BY BALTIMORE

His draft stock is soaring up and he's looking more and more like a complete safety every week. Word on the street is he will declare but there are rumors circling that he may not. In the case he does i would love him in the second round if he's still there, or late 1st if we trade back and pick up and extra 1st rounder in some trade.
runs about 5'11" 205 so he has room to bulk up but he is a ball hawk and not afraid to stick his nose in and make tackles, he is the electric player on the UF defense, something Philly needs.
thoughts?

another reason he may stay, his brother who is in the NFL already says he wont let him leave unless hes guaranteed first round. i agree hes a stud, i would love to add a veteran presence like a Jairus Byrd or Kenny Phillips and then draft Elam to go with one of them. that would be amazing.

Elam in the second arguably best value at safety. No first round safeties.

That said, this class is actually pretty deep at safety. We can probably get a good guy like Rambo in the second or even third round. So... I'm not sure.

He is the electricity of our defense and could bring it to this defense too. He loves to hit and can cover almost anyone. Plus he's got the football IQ to understand the game.
I'm really interested to see if he declares where he really will go. Could be mid 1st down to mid 2nd. Who knows at this point. All I know if he would be an upgrade.

I refuse to say such things. Although it was one of the first things I thought watching him.

Completely agree. He's a ball hawk. Period. If he gets up to 215 then I think he's be fine

Elam actually reminds me of Bob Sanders when he played for the Colts.

I don't know, he's been named to virtually every 1st team all American teams I have seen..he really has no where left to go but down. Unless he an a few other seniors decide to come back and try for a national championship (which I would love) then I think he leaves. With a excellent combine to show his size isn't an issue he could be first safety off the board.
I think he would be perfect here if we get someone in FA who can start along side him and guide him a little. Allen and Coleman are done here on Philly.

It will be out after Florida's bowl game with Louisville. I have all highlights up to that game done.
