Mock Draft - General Pointers

Especially around this time of year I pop in here more frequently to read what you guys are thinking. I'd like to create a couple quick pointers that might help avoid being completely flamed:
1 - Keep in mind the salary cap ramifications. Many of the situations being offered up financially don't make sense. The best site is www.eaglescap.com. The guy that runs it has done a great job in describing what the cap number is and what the penalty would be for trading or cutting someone. For Example:
Trent Cole's 2013 Cap number is $5,350,000
Dead if Cut number is $6,400,000
Meaning it would cost us $1,050,000 EXTRA in cap space to cut or trade Trent Cole for the 2013 season. The only reason that makes sense is if we got a crazy draft pick for him, but that brings me to my second point:
2 - When proposing a trade try to undervalu the current Eagles players. Last year it was Samuel. Many mocks come out saying he's worth a first rounder or a second. Sure the mock looks good, but that's because you have greatly over inflated a players value to get more picks (Samuel was traded for a 7th rounder).
3 - Remember the Eagles are 1 of 32 teams, meaning if all things being we should have access to approx. 3% of the free agents outstanding. I guess what I'm getting at is it's not overly realistic if you have the Eagles signing a large number of free agents.
4 - Per www.eaglescap.com we are estimated to be $18,120,825 OVER the salary cap. Granted there are moves like cutting Vick and/or Bell that will bring this number into alignment, but it's important to know that we are over because it will greatly reduce our ability to make some of those big Free Agency spashes we've seen the team do in the past. I guess if you have our first three moves being to sign Flacco, Bowe and Clady then you should know financially it just can't happen.
Anyway, that was my quick 4 points. It will add a bit more work to every mock offseason, but it will also make it a lot more realistic.
Thanks for your posts and I look forward to reading them.

Do you think a 2nd round pick is appropriate value for Desean Jackson? Vontae Davis was worth one.

With taking a second I think you are about right. Many don't know this but Jackson has quitely had a real good season before being IRed. Statistically he wasn't blowing the doors off, but remember this group as a whole has been nut-kicked by the OL injuries and the shuffling that followed. Some will want Roy Williams type compelsation (1st and a 3rd), but I really think those days are behind us.
To me Desean is a keeper. We currently only suit up 4 starters (FB, RG, WR2 and TE). When we get our OL back and have McCoy/Brown splitting carries having a speedster like Jackson for playaction could be huge. I really think with a new coach this offense could have a deadly ground game. Look at Washington. For as great as RG3 is almost all of his long plays come off of play action. The Jackson/Maclin combo could be deadly.

Has his play actually warranted him returning?
The two guys we need gone IMO is Coleman and DRC. I just can't believe all 4 guys stink and feel with a change of scenery the new DC will need some talent. IMO Nnamdi is more talented than DRC and Allen is more talented than Coleman.

Tyvonn Branch at least did some of that.
Eagles need to get another CB, and let Nnamdi ba roamer on #1 WRs and TEs. He's lost a step, but he can still cover, with help over top.
To Mock rules.
Understand, every free agent signed isn't going to be a starter.
An abundance of trades isn't common, especially for multiple starters.
Make sure you know where your drafted players are projected. Nothing is worse than seeing a 1st-2nd rounder in the 4th or 5th.
If your changing staff, try to fit your added players to their scheme.
Try to consider small schools , not just SEC and BIG10 athletes.
Can't wait for mock season

Previously the only real way to roll over cap space was if you signed someone to a heavy incentive based contract and they fell short of those hurdles. The best example of this I've ever seen was Reno Mahe. In his contract one year he would have received a $5M bonus if he lead the league in rushing. For that cap year they had to account for his salary + the $5M bonus just incase that happened. When it didn't lead the league in rushing that $5M was added to the next year's cap.
Go look at www.eaglescap.com and maybe read some of the supporting articles. The guy does a real good job at outlining how the cap works and what we should have next year.

Vick, Bell and Nnamdi will be gone. Nnamdi is getting old while were trying to stay young. Bell just sucks and obviously the writing is on the wall for Vick. I would rather restructure DRC, he is younger, faster than Nnamdi and although he has flaws, with the right coaching I could see him bouncing back in 2013.

Only $4 Mil in dead money if we cut him, as opposed to his $15 Mil salary.

Did a little research at it seems we're in the good. Under the new CBA a team can carry over left over cap space. If they write a request..why wouldn't you? Here is the article from cbssports
Under Article 13, Section 6(b)(v) of the CBA, each team may carry over any remaining cap room from one year to the next by submitting written notice, signed by the owner of the team, to the league office no later than 14 days before the start of the next league year. The written notice must indicate the maximum amount of cap room that the team wishes to shift from one cap year to the next.
We could start with 3 million and increase that number by alot
