My first attempt this year. Here we go:
I'm assuming we draft in the top 5.
1 - Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M - Unfortunately we drafted too late to get Geno Smith, who I feel is the only 'franchise' type guy available this year at the QB position. With Joeckel you get a big, athletic tackle who's went against some of the better pass rushers in college and fared well. He'd be a plug at RT and we'd move Herremans inside.
2 - Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame - With Eifert you get a 6'6 TE who lined up wide for the Irish as their best passing option. The Eagles have smaller WRs that start losing battles when their speed is negated in the Red zone. This allows us to go double TE and attack mismatches. He's got a chance to give a Gronk-type bump up to a teams red zone attack. I'd like to be a part of that.
3 - Terry Hawthorne, CB, Illinois - He's a playmaker that's got a feel for the game (played both offense and defense). The offensive experience shouldn't be underestimated because it shows an understanding of WR routes and utlimately what can disrupt routes. I'm not calling him a project, but with one season as a corner he still has a high ceiling.
4 - Duke Williams, S, Nevada - Really wasn't happy waiting this long to address safety, but sometimes that's the way a draft breaks. With Duke you get someone who's be a consistent producer for 3 years.
5 - Cameron Lawrence, OLB, Mississippi State - High effort, consistent player that will contribute on speical teams fron day one. He's got good size (6'3, 230) and could be a starter down the road.

I'd rather take a safety before the 3rd round but Eifert might be too good to pass up if he's there in the 2nd. Talk about the perfect receiver for the type of deep ball Foles throws. He's inconsistent with his accuracy there and Eifert would make things much easier for him.
I would really be more interested in trading back and acquiring an extra pick. With the new CBA top 5 picks don't scare as many teams away salary wise. Its possible there would be some teams lined up to take their future QB. Granted there is no RGIII or Luck, but Smith and Barkley still have hype and theres always a market for a top college QB prospect.
How do you feel about swinging a deal to trade back and acquire an extra pick? I think this safety class is deep and would even be pressed to consider taking more than one. Questions I have:
Is Joeckel really a franchise LT?
With Peters looking slated for a return would it be better to trade back to draft Warmack who looks nasty?
Would it be better to grab Te'o and rebuild your defense around the only franchise player, I see in this draft, that has first round value?
What about Micah Hyde in the 3rd instead of Terry Hawthorne?
I like your mock, I just think safety is too big of an issue for the Eagles to wait till the 4th to grab one but you already mentioned that anyway.

I thought Eifert will be a first round pick, but if he is there at our second pick we should definitely choose him. Nice tall target who can jump for our young QB to throw too. Too good to pass up

Replace # 2 w/ TJ McDonald S USC and its a keeper, Double dipping at S may come to play.....
I see the need for TE, however S is much much more an issue, I feel. Our secondary is pathetic or TE's are ok, FA TE.

We don't need Eifert that bad, FA presents a few solid TE's (Cook and Finley). Replace that second rounder with a S or CB (McDonald or Poyner). We need secondary help in this draft.

To me you draft a few years out. I love Celek, but he's 27 and plays a real physical brand of football that many times gets him hit hard. I'm thining 3-4 years from now Eifert can replace him while helping the redzone offense from day one.

I like the Eifert pick but I think ATL is going to take him in the first. They are going to need a TE with Gonzo retireing next year.Plus I dont think we need a receiving TE as much as we need a blocking one.

I've always thought if you plan on filling a need in the draft then essentially you are planning on failing at least for that season. There's actually a small number of rookies that fill a need. Many can develop into something, but assuming a complete NFL unknown is the solution is faulty logic.

Furthermore the draft is about getting value as well. Eifert at 35 is a good value. In fact he'd be very hard to pass up especially considering the Eagles red zone woes year in and year out.
