And Maclin is one of the poster boys for that issue, in my opinion. He's dealing with a rookie QB, increased attention, and a bad line now, but he has not lived up to expectations since being drafted.
Maclin doesn't suck, but he's just a guy. Almost every team in the league has a couple Maclins on the roster.

I agree. Its not that he's been a scrub my any means, but he has yet to play as a first round draft pick. He was billed as the consensus #2 WR in his draft class. Granted, the QB situation since his rookie year hasn't actually been stellar combined with Reid's playcalling. But you'd expect by now to have at least one year with 1,000+ yards.

I probably should have made a thread asking Dave to tell him to stop doing it.

As bad as this team's record is , Jeremy is right . Football starts in the trenches . You can't take your 3 best OL pieces off the team and expect your wide outs to compensate for it . The QB on our team has people in his face before he can even set up . Vick probably set a record for getting smashed to the ground, and considering how fast he is that should tell you something . With a solid OL we do have some talent here . Unfortunately we'll have to wait until next year at least , if not longer to prove that point .

Nah. They've had problems at LT, no doubt, but their issues year are way, way bigger than one position or one player. They've won 3 games by total of 4 points, which included a last minute TD drive to take out the putrid Browns and a shanked field goal by Tynes that gave them the win against NY.
This is a really bad football team.

It was a "problem" when they were saying it all year last season. It's now become a delusion.

The season was over when Lurie pussed out & didn't send Reid packing after the fool's gold.

Jeffrey Lurie is at the NovaCare Complex as we speak, huddled with his staff in trying to spin his decision to keep Reid for the 2013 season.

I question whether they do, to be honest. How many of their players are significantly more talented than their contemporaries?
- Shady is very talented (Bryce Brown may be a rare talent, as well).
- Desean is very fast, but he's too small to be an effective #1.
- DRC is gifted athletically, but isn't a complete player.
- Peters, obviously.
- Cox, maybe.
I think they have a lot of players are about average to slightly above in pure talent. You can win with players like that in the right situation, but I think their talent has been overrated and they have almost no fight in them.

You beat me to it, f. The mantra has been how talented this group is, probably based on name recognition of the FA signings. I might eliminate DRC from your list - he can't tackle, and is brainless, which neutralizes his physical gifts. I might add Ryans and Kendricks, who could thrive in the right system.
The fact that this group quit the way they did speaks volumes about the leadership here, and should be the final straw, as if there needed to be one, to push Lurie to finally make the very long awaited and oh-so-obvious move.

it all comes down to how you define "talent". I was looking at it as elite athletic talent (as opposed to pure production). I think DRC is an elite athlete, but not an elite player (for some of the reasons you mentioned). I consider Ryans-and a few other guys to be pretty productive players, but not an off-the-charts athletes.
I look at this team and I just can't find the match-up nightmare. No one on the defense is a playmaker or commands double teams consistently. No one on offense really scares defensive coordinators (though I'm sure they worry about Desean deep, which is apparently easy to take away when that's all he does). There are other teams who lack explosive playmakers (like the Pats, for example), but when the QB can embarrass a defense from the pocket, that covers up a lot of talent deficiency.

Isn't that kind of the story of the Reid era? Aside from T.O. in '04, and Westbrook for a couple of seasons, it has always been about the vaunted "system" here - defenses didn't have to prepare for matchup issues, but simply for the "scheme" itself. That might be one reason why Reid was always good at moving the ball between the 20's and during the first three quarters, but awful in the the red zone, and in crunch time.
