Marinomanx013's Eagles Mock Draft v2

I'll been kicking around some mock draft ideas for the last week or so and have decided to show some scenarios, just so people (myself included) can visualize what different drafts would look like addressing different areas in different rounds. I'm not doing FA, but some pieces could be added there. Your guess is as good as mine. All picks are assumed to be approximately the 5th pick in each round (so our regular picks are around slots 5, 40, 70, 105, 135, 170, and 200).

A 3rd scenario would likely involve going after a guy like Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama.

Hopefully this allows people to better see how a certain draft would look and, if nothing else, at least causes you to reconsider or rule out one of the above draft strategies.

And so, without further adieu...

Strategy 1

R1 - Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M
R2 - Xavier Rhodes, CB, FSU -or- Eric Reid, S, LSU
R3 - Marcus Davis, WR, VT
R4 - Blaize Foltz, OG, TCU
R5 - Devin Taylor, DE, South Carolina
R6 - Zeke Motta, S, Notre Dame
R7 - whoever, go for upside

Strategy 2

R1 - Manti Te'o, LB, Notre Dame
R2 - Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State -or- Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas
R3 - Kyle Long, OT, Oregon
R3 - Margus Hunt, DE, SMU (additional round 3 from somewhere, if we can get one through a trade... only if Hunt is available here, which, if NFL teams are smart, he likely won't be)
R4 - Blaize Foltz, OG, TCU
R5 - Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt
R6 - Shamarko Thomas, S, Syracuse
R7 - again

So it basically is whether you want Te'o or Joeckel. I'm not sure yet which way I would go. Still stuck in the middle. I do want us to rebuild this defense as quick as possible because I don't think there are any franchise QB's at the top of the draft. This kind of makes me lean towards going with Manti and trying to rebuild the online through free agency

Yeah, that's where I'm at too. I was hard on the Luke train a few weeks ago, but now, if I was forced to choose, I'd lean towards Te'o. Of course, if we get traded in front of for both guys, or trade down to 6th or so and Milliner is still there, I'm grabbing him too. I actually really like the top of the board for the Eagles' needs.

I agree. Tackle is one of the most important positions, but this team has so many holes including an emotional leader that is the face of the franchise. We have missed that since some of our  vets left especially Dawkins. If we could get a great player like Te'o and also get the leadership abilities it would be hard for me not to pull the trigger.

I would go Joeckel first round then SAFETY we need a top notch safety. Has to be addressed in second round.

I'm actually afraid of drafting Manti Te'o and the reason why is that I really like him as a player, person and prospect. For me his greatest strength is his instincts. Just makes plays and can flip a college game. The issue I have with LB in general is go back and look at Ronaldo McClain or Aaron Curry. Both were rated way above their peer group and were regarded as can't miss picks in any scheme largely due to the instincts they showed at the college level.

To me LB has become a position you really role the die on. I'm not comfortable doing that with a high first round pick.

If the eagles get Manti, I thin that he will be a captain and our biggest leader in his first year.

That's something you can't reach.

When he first arrived at Notre Dame I would agree that he relied on his instincts to make plays, but last season and this season he seems to know what play the other team is running before the snap. This has really helped him in pass coverage this year (see all his interceptions). One thing you know about this guy is whatever deficiency he has in his game, he will do absolutely everything he can to improve it. Te'o has really high character.

Like either mock. Depends what you think the bigger need/better guy is. Personally I think Joeckel is going to be elite for a long time so that route

It's just gut feelings at this point, and that's all they'll likely ever be, but I feel like both guys will be terrific players. If PHI scouts found a guy they liked at LB in round 3 and liked his leadership qualities (there have to be other guys in the nation with strong leadership qualities), then I'd go Joeckel. If the scouts like the potential and bloodlines and talent of a guy like Kyle Long, I might go Te'o. But this is what makes mock drafts so fun for me. I love seeing how different people think.

Trade down a few picks to the Cardinals like the Rams did last year. Trade the Eagles 1st for the Cardinals 1st 2nd and a 1st next year. They need a guaranteed player on the line because they are in trouble so the Eagles trade their 5th for the Cards 8th or 9th
1st Round- LB Manti Teo- He will be a defensive Captain for years to come because he is a natural leaders and would control the lockerroom. An upgraded Kuechley who has the hardest work ethic in this class and a very good player.
2nd Round- OT DJ Fluker- The line is getting older and looks like Watkins is a bust. This allows the Eagles to move Todd back to his natural guard position. Not sure about anyone else but a Peters Mathis Kelce Todd Fluker line sounds very good to me. If they think Watkins or Kelly can fill the last position than maybe this becomes WR Justin hunter who is a tall slick receiver.
2nd Round- CB David Amerson- 6'2 or 6'1. Clearly good size and very athletic. He was suppose to be a top 10 pick this year but didnt have a good year. With DRC at a contract year and Nnamdi not playing the way we though the Eagles need to bring in the future now. This is the pick to do that.
3rd Round- SS Robert Lester- a solid prospect mostly BPA though. Has some great upside coming from Alabama and standing out and getting a few SEC defensive awards is no small task. Normally I am the person to hate drafting safeties because NFL coverage is much different than college but this guys looks up to the task.
4th Round- DE William Gholston- definitely BPA and with Cole aging an maybe some cuts this man is an under the radar kinda star. Before this year he was considered the best defender in college football and although he didnt live up to it there's too things you can't take out of it. 1st you can't teach leader ship. This man was a captain and a clear leader who MSU looked up to for his high motor and 2nd he did show flashes of why he has a ridiculous upside. This would be an under rated great pick.
5th Round- S Phillip Thomas- BPA but some analysts say he has potential to really make and impact and be a potential great player so why not at this point. I also remember people going crazy last year because they thought the Eagles got him.
6th Round- CB Tyrann Mathieu- Slid off because of a charge and dismissal from the team but he is a sure play maker and ballhawk that could play dime corner and maybe even some outside once in awhile as he does have tremendous skill. Also showed Patrick Peterson like moves on special teams.
7th Round- QB Collin Klein - this would be a project but the Eagles will most likely get rid of Vick and will need a backup. Collin is very mobile but what holds him back is his throwing form. With some time he could actually become a very good QB maybe even a starter because he is very mobile but also has a good arm.

And that is how I think the Eagles can maximize what they have. I only did one trade because I think too many makes it very unrealistic although there will probably 2 or 3 small 6th or 7th round pick trades come the real draft. But this would give the Eagles everything they need and then some.
