The lack of established team captains has always perplexed me and has hurt the team.  Is this a control thing with Reid?  Look at the rest of the NFC East, our rivals have them.  Romo, Manning, and RG III all wear the "C" with stars on their chests.  With all the dysfunction on this team, designated "Captains" could have helped restore and/or maintain order and accountability among the troops.  Whether selected by Reid and his staff, or voted on by the players, they are necessary for success.  It hit me again watching three backups run out for the coin toss in the Dallas game as "Game Day Captains," what a joke!  Guys like Brent Celek, Cullen Jenkins, and DeMeco Ryans should be wearing the "C."

Would you honestly want anyone in this sorry group to be a captain?

May as well be ball guy #4, headset girl #2, and the kid who gets the hot tubs ready after the game because nobody on the field deserves to be captain on this team.

I would say Meco and Peters (when he comes back). If I had to choose a third, I would say Shady.

Real leaders have no need for a C to be stitched on their jersey. BTW the Eagles pick different captains every week for the coin toss.

Reid appoints different captains before each game. Basically the 3 guys at the coin toss are the elected captains for that game.

This   It's just a big C on a jersey.  It means nothing.

Agreed. Anytime I hear someone talk about being a "captain", it brings me back to my childhood when 2 kids would shout out "I'm a captain!" before picking teams for kickball or something.

Who cares. We supposedly had all these great leaders years ago with Dawkins and Trotter and Douglas and Duce and whoever else the fans want to dream up.
How many NFCCGs did we win with those leaders ???
Seriously, this is the NFL. It's not friggen high school.

They were burdened with the worst game day coach in the NFL and an out of shape quarterback with a performance anxiety disorder. Leadership can only overcome so much.

If the next coach decides to go the route of captains... it's Meco, Foles, and Herremans next year as far as I'm concerned.

Very often I see him catch long passes when you need a critical down in late games and in the playoffs, that dude is a gamer day and out.

Captains aren't worthless...They set the tone on a daily basis...People who say they're worthless have either never played a sport or are envious that they weren't captain.

yeah they definitely aren't worthless. Having the label on the jersey may be though. Believe me the guys in the locker room know who the captains are. A jersey patch isn't necessary.

Leaders set the tone on the daily basis. Being tagged as a captain does not.

Do you think it matters to Ray Lewis or the players on the Baltimore defense if he has a big silly C on his jersey or not?

The term and label is worthless.

The "C" itself doesn't mean much. I've always felt that looked stupid on NFL jerseys and still do. Players know who their leaders are and they know who'd step up in crunch time. Wearing the "C" doesn't make you a true leader. I'd always liked the fact that the Eagles chose not to use those patches. Just because you don't see players wearing that goofy looking patch doesn't mean they don't have captains or leaders on the team. The problem with this team isn't the "C" on their chest, the problem is this team has stopped responding to Reid & his approach. That's a reflection on Reid that he can't motivate this team, he can't get this team to respond to him, and it's time for a change.
