I heard this on ESPN Radio a couple of hours ago.

http://profootballta...bryants-season/

A hand injury could end the season early for Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant.

Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com reports that Bryant could be out for the rest of the season, if tests reveal a torn ligament in his finger will require surgery. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said it’s 50-50 whether Bryant will have to be shut down for the rest of the season. Bryant will be checked out by a hand specialist today.

Bryant apparently suffered the injury on a six-yard catch in the fourth quarter. After briefly leaving the game, he returned and caught a 27-yard touchdown pass later on the same series, and he caught another pass on the next series to help set up the Cowboys’ game-winning field goal.

Losing Bryant would be a huge blow to the Cowboys’ playoff hopes. Bryant has had an excellent season and has already set career highs in catches (75) yards (1,028) and touchdowns (nine).

The 7-6 Cowboys have games remaining against the Steelers, Saints and Redskins. If they win out, they have a very good chance of reaching the playoffs. If they lose a game, they’ll likely fall short.

yeah, Dallas can't buy a break this season. 7 starters on defense are out on defense, and they are playing 3rd stringers and guys off the street at FS, LB, CB and DT, now this.......watching Dez was about the only think that made Dallas games watchable this year.

Dude was having a nice year too, despite playing opposite Witten who is on pace for 100+ catches Dez was 10th in catches, 10th in yards and 3rd in TD's, despite not getting as many targets as most WR's anywhere near him in the rankings.

Check out the Eagles... they're in the same boat with injuries. Brutal year.

yeah, your defense is healthy but your offense is decimated....what 6...7 starters out on offense? The Dallas defense was ranked 5th in the NFL when the bodies started dropping, the skins are actually beat up too, missing 5 starters on what would normally be a good defense...NY picked a good year to stay healthy

He says it would take the doctors breaking both legs for him not to play. How well he plays is a different story. Going to be hard catching passes when you have your index finger wrapped up.

Is it just me or does Dez playing through this injury seem like a very dumb and short sighted idea? If he's risking further damage that could affect his ability to catch the ball for years to come why risk it? I could understand it if it looked like their year but does anyone really think they're going to win it all this year? Yeah, yeah any given Sunday whatever but with how beaten up their defense is I don't see it.

Sounds exaggerated, the whole "permanent damage" thing....a lot of WRs have ugly arse crooked looking fingers. After he has surgery on it in the off season it will probably just, you know, heal.

I like his attitude about it...it's nice to have players like that still around...maybe he should just do what Ronnie Lott to his injured finger

yeah, I agree. I'm still not sure he will play, wouldn't surprise me if he backed out if whatever they need to put on his hand makes it hard to catch, and I wouldn't blame him, long term im not worried about his finger, Chris Carter's fingers go in every different direction and he could catch

Bryant should do surgery, so that way injury doesn't become worse.

Blame Jerry. He should have done the right thing, instead he said it's up to the player.

I actually like Bryant's decision, and regardless of how the season turns out, and I believe it will be with Dallas missing the playoffs, one thing I've discovered about Dallas is they have shown themselves to be mentally tough and also dispelled the notion that they "have no leadership", I think last year Romo playing with broken ribs and a punctured lung, Witten with the ruptured spleen, set the tone for the team, and now you see a guy like Bryant toughing it out, they have suffered the same amount of injuries as Philly, and were already less talented that Philly and they still haven't quit. 7 starters on defense on IR, and two guys (Ware and Sensabaugh) really playing through some tough injuries and being in and out of the game. Their only RB has missed most of the season and their starting center is on IR...so 8 starters total.....I just love the mental toughtness.

now they just need about 4 new offensive lineman, and a legitimate 3rd WR.

It's great to be tough until someone hits his fingers and he can't catch the ball after that.

Good lord dude you sound like a pansy  you probably don't want Dez to play so the Cowboys stop creeping behind the Giants in the division. People cry about the pussification of the game, and now you don't want the guy to play because his finger is injured? F that...lets see some of that "gladiator mentality" that everyone speaks of.
