Last week, Eagles defensive tackle Mike Patterson was hospitalized with viral pneumonia. A league source tells PFT that the Eagles now plan to place Patterson on the non-football injury/illness list for the balance of the season.

Per the source, the Eagles also plan to exercise their discretion to reduce Patterson’s pay, not completely but partially.
The move is expected to cause hard feelings, especially since it’s entirely possible that Patterson initially got sick because of practicing or playing in the elements. Moreover, the money that will be saved (roughly $150,000, we’re told) could do far more damage to the team’s relationship with Patterson — or to the reputation of the front office within the locker room.

As the Eagles wrap up a difficult season and prepare for what all appearances will be a new era, it’s not a good look.

Unbelievable, Patterson the one guy who single handed sacked Cam Newton the reason why D-line play fell off the Map this year, that sack alone worth $150,000.00 and coming back from skull surgery, GOD I hope this is untrue!!!!!

...Hell I've had this walking phenomena for 5 weeks running and can't shake it in my lungs, been on Medicines staying away from everyone wouldn't wish this bug on my worst enemy and I never get sick...


Patterson's salary 2.1 mil this year....

I do not like how this sounds... If Patterson is a health risk, put him on IR, cut him, but cutting pay is a stab in the back... Hope this is not true.

This organization is dropping to new depths.

If you get pneumonia during the football season it's likely been caused or enhanced by playing/practicing. Ridiculous to say otherwise

I really don't think the Eagles are that low down to do that to a player, that put so much in his game on Play days.  If that's true they are low down dirty dogs.  I refuse to believe that.

they needed a TE to take brents spot for this week

why not shelve a vet who was already ruled out this week bc of illness

people are really upset about this?

They could have put him on IR and paid him what he was owed but tried to label it as a NFI so as to cut his pay in half

I'm not all up in arms about this, but it does say something about Howie.  Very classless to attempt something like this on a player we drafted, stuck with, and then watched go through a career threatening injury.

also aren't there fines for stashing players on IR if they dont have football related injuries?
-wouldnt the eagles have to prove mike was injured in a football related injury to put him on IR

You don't catch viral pneumonia from practicing outside in the cold, the clue is in the viral part.  It's certainly true that running about outside will do little to help pneumonia but it doesn't cause it.

Who cares?  Patterson and quite a few guys in the locker room, I'm sure.

It just seems pointless...$150K is nothing to the organization and a lot of money to the player who fell ill.

Pretty crappy deal, on the other hand they were lead to believe he would be able to play from the jump and he wasn't. He's also a first round pick who never lived up to his draft status. They aren't bringing him back so why pay him? I get it but pretty cold blooded.

You obviously are totally unaware of what Patterson has bought on game day year after year, his play alone missing and the D-Line play fell off the Mapp, fighting back from brain surgery, skull bone healing , comes to work at Carolina Game who gets the sack from the ground with one hand mind you and brings Cam Newton Down all by his lonesome, so many D-Line men had  there shot at him all game.....pay him,  to do otherwise is just down right disrespectful on so many Levels, I just can't fathom this to be true?

Why do you say cut his post in half? He's losing 150k from a 2.1M salary from what I'm seeing.

A drop in the bucket. It's what, 5% of his yearly salary?  There's lots of hard working people out there who get laid off and suffer 100% pay cuts. I've been there. Hard to feel bad for a millionaire losing $150k.
