Would you be surprised if T. Cole was traded or benched next

I don't think he will be cut, but I could see him take the backseat to a young guy. I think if a new coaching staff comes in, he will want to play young guys and rebuild this team.
I love Trent Cole, but I will be the first to tell you he breaks down so much throughout a season. His age won't help him either.
Could he be traded for draft picks?

I think Cole could be gone, one way or the other.

I think it would be best if we traded him now while he still has value.

Cole and Graham are your starters next year, with Curry and Hunt as the primary backups/rotation guys. Tapp is likely gone.

Dawkins sucked his last year here. you don't pay someone playing that terrible that kind of money just because they don't suck as badly as the person behind them. they made an offer based on his production and Dawk walked. simple as that.
the real mistake the Eagles made was not having someone ready to step up and play at a high level when Dawk left. they tried throwing Sean Jones in there and we all saw how well that worked.

Next years goal is to rebuild. You don't rebuild with a guy who is gone in 2 years.
There is no way the Eagles pay him 11 million in 2015.
Just a couple things about the Cole issue.
1- we are so used to seeing Cole literally be a top 3 all around DE that when he has a down year ( which is still better then 2/3 of the DEs in the NFL) we are disappointed.
2- he still should have 3 top years left.
3- this team has to much young talent to have to rebuild.
Do they need pieces ?? Absolutely. But they certainly don't need to rebuild.

Those numbers tell me he will be here next year and 2014. Then be cut.

Ahhh, 5 mil is not a lot for a very good starting DE.
I know he is having an off year for the typical Trent Cole year. But he is still better, in his off year,, then 2/3 of the starting DEs. And keep in mind he just turned 30. He should have at least 2 very good years left.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised since some of you jackasses were calling (28 year old) DeMeco Ryans "washed up" before this season even started.
Dawkins left the Eagles when he turned 36. Ray Lewis is 37 this year and might come back from what people thought was a career ending injury.

For some reason becuase the Eagles get rid of most guys when they can't play anymore and they happen to be 30 or older, they think that once a player hits 30 the Eagles get rid of them.
The Eagles get rid of players at 30 IF THEY CANT PLAY.

His season is actually not that bad. Just not the typical Trent Cole year. Here are some of his rankings compared to the top 63 DEs.
16th = overall ranking
17th = pass rushing
31st - run stopping (obviously this has a lot to do with the goofy wide 9 mess)
32nd = sacks ( this obviously has to do with the wonderful (wink wink) DB coverage this year)
4th = QB hits
17th = hurries
12th = combined QB pressures
13th = tackles
10th = stops
Yes, he is not in the top 5 in everything like usual. But considering the mess this team is, it's still better then 2/3 of the DEs in the league.
Hell, with whats been going on with this team if he finishes in the top 15 in most categories I would consider it still a good year. Not the typical T.Cole good year. But still good. And still better then almost 50 of the 63 DEs.

Cole has been rated one of, if not the best all round 4-3 DE for years. One off year when the entire house of cards has fallen in on itself, and its time to cut or trade him for what ever we can get. Please.
Trent Cole is still an elite 4-3 DE, If the new coaching staff wants to go to a 3-4 and dont believe he can make the transition, then we can start talking trades. Whilst we're still in a 4-3 front, talk of trading Cole is madness

Not sure fans understand how hard it is to play at such a high level every single year. Here are Trent Coles DE rankings since 2007
2007 = #2 all around DE
2008 = #6
2009 = #3
2010 = #1
2011 = #1
Now this year he will likely finish about 12th overall out of the roughly 65 top DEs. And people want him gone.
Awesome. Gotta love Eagle fans. I didn't know top DEs were that easy to find.

At #4 the Eagles will have a shot at the best pass rusher in the draft. QB play and elite pass rush are what wins games in the NFL. If you can't get one, go after the other. The wide-9 made Cole useless and I'm impressed by how he's played the last 2 weeks. We'll see what happens.
