next year if Vinny Curry could play well these last 2 games as well as in training camp?

I don't think he will be cut, but I could see him take the backseat to a young guy. I think if a new coaching staff comes in, he will want to play young guys and rebuild this team.

I love Trent Cole, but I will be the first to tell you he breaks down so much throughout a season. His age won't help him either.

Could he be traded for draft picks?

Cole suddenly came back to life after Babin, Washburn, and the Wide-9 were shipped out of town.  But, isn't Cole making north of $11 Million?  And they couldn't, or wouldn't pay, BDawk $4 Million per year when it mattered.

I think Cole could be gone, one way or the other.

He is making 3mil this year, 3.5 next year, 5 mil in 2014, 11mil 2015, 14 mil in 2016

I think it would be best if we traded him now while he still has value.

He just got an extension.  Unless he's trade bait, he's here.

Cole and Graham are your starters next year, with Curry and Hunt as the primary backups/rotation guys.  Tapp is likely gone.

What is the obsession with Curry?  I hope he becomes great, but the guy registers 9 career tackles and we're talking about trading Trent Cole?

It will at least partly depend on who they bring in to coach, and the philosophy with which Lurie chooses to approach next season under that coach.  If the philosophy is that the new coaches' system/philosophy will necessitate spending a season or two remaking the team for that system/philosophy (such as acquiring bulkier players rather than the undersized but speedy type they've favored under Reid) and consequently being unlikely to be a playoff threat for at least a season, if not two, then there's a decent chance he could be traded.

Dawkins sucked his last year here.  you don't pay someone playing that terrible that kind of money just because they don't suck as badly as the person behind them.   they made an offer based on his production and Dawk walked.  simple as that.

the real mistake the Eagles made was not having someone ready to step up and play at a high level when Dawk left.  they tried throwing Sean Jones in there and we all saw how well that worked.

Just a couple things about the Cole issue.
1- we are so used to seeing Cole literally be a top 3 all around DE that when he has a down year ( which is still better then 2/3 of the DEs in the NFL) we are disappointed.
2- he still should have 3 top years left.
3- this team has to much young talent to have to rebuild.

Do they need pieces ?? Absolutely. But they certainly don't need to rebuild.

Ahhh, 5 mil is not a lot for a very good starting DE.
I know he is having an off year for the typical Trent Cole year. But he is still better, in his off year,, then 2/3 of the starting DEs. And keep in mind he just turned 30. He should have at least 2 very good years left.

Cole is a guy the new DC is going to want to count on in the first few years. He's still capable of contributing in a fairly massive way, and in the transition from our current coaching staff to the new, blokes like Cole and Ryans are going to be the guys the new DC leans on to get the defense buying in

Amazing how 30 years old is now the end of your career according to this fanbase.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised since some of you jackasses were calling (28 year old) DeMeco Ryans "washed up" before this season even started.

Dawkins left the Eagles when he turned 36. Ray Lewis is 37 this year and might come back from what people thought was a career ending injury.

For some reason becuase the Eagles get rid of most guys when they can't play anymore and they happen to be 30 or older, they think that once a player hits 30 the Eagles get rid of them.
The Eagles get rid of players at 30 IF THEY CANT PLAY.

His season is actually not that bad. Just not the typical Trent Cole year. Here are some of his rankings compared to the top 63 DEs.

16th = overall ranking
17th = pass rushing
31st - run stopping (obviously this has a lot to do with the goofy wide 9 mess)
32nd = sacks ( this obviously has to do with the wonderful (wink wink) DB coverage this year)
4th = QB hits
17th = hurries
12th = combined QB pressures
13th = tackles
10th = stops

Yes, he is not in the top 5 in everything like usual. But considering the mess this team is, it's still better then 2/3 of the DEs in the league.
Hell, with whats been going on with this team if he finishes in the top 15 in most categories I would consider it still a good year. Not the typical T.Cole good year. But still good. And still better then almost 50 of the 63 DEs.

Typical tate though isnt it?
Cole has been rated one of, if not the best all round 4-3 DE for years. One off year when the entire house of cards has fallen in on itself, and its time to cut or trade him for what ever we can get. Please.
Trent Cole is still an elite 4-3 DE, If the new coaching staff wants to go to a 3-4 and dont believe he can make the transition, then we can start talking trades. Whilst we're still in a 4-3 front, talk of trading Cole is madness

Not sure fans understand how hard it is to play at such a high level every single year. Here are Trent Coles DE rankings since 2007

2007 = #2 all around DE
2008 = #6
2009 = #3
2010 = #1
2011 = #1
Now this year he will likely finish about 12th overall out of the roughly 65 top DEs. And people want him gone.
Awesome. Gotta love Eagle fans. I didn't know top DEs were that easy to find.

I like Vinny Curry but I don't see him as the long-term starter at RDE.  To me, if they were going to start him, they'd start him at LDE and Graham at RDE.  The Eagles need to find a way to sustain Graham's recent level of play without him wearing down.

At #4 the Eagles will have a shot at the best pass rusher in the draft.  QB play and elite pass rush are what wins games in the NFL.  If you can't get one, go after the other.  The wide-9 made Cole useless and I'm impressed by how he's played the last 2 weeks.  We'll see what happens.
