We were bound to have this year eventually. Whether some choose to admit it or not when you lose a franchise qb (which mcnabb was) there are going to be growing pains in the interim. Considering Foles is the future the good news is there is already alot of young talent here. Our oline will be back to good form next year. Our LB's are highly improved. Obviously we have to address our secondary but the nucleus of the team is already here. The colts were 1-15 last year and are likely heading to the playoffs with Luck as a rookie just one year later. We will in all likelyhood have a top ten draft choice for the first time since 1999. With a good draft and one or two free agent pieces (possibly wr or safety) i think this team will be competing again next year.

Key Questions:

Do we resign maclin?
Will we make the right safety picks?
Do we stick with reid and if not do we make the right hiring? (please no gimmick college coaches)
The lines are in place but could both obviously use depth...
where do we spend on our top ten pick?
Do we trade down to accumulate more players?

This offseason will be more entertaining to watch than our lousy team was this year but i think they will be competitive sooner rather than later...

Times yours.

Do you trust Reid to address any of these questions?

I dont see how we could part ways with Maclin.. hes still very young and coming off a 960 yards 10TDs year. In all 4 of his years in the league he has had over 50 catches and 700 yards... thats good.

I actually agree with you, I really think this team could turn it self around quite quickly if we get the correct coaching staff in place.

If we get our offensive line back to full strength and become more of a running attack next year with McCoy and Brown I think Foles will do his job very well.

I have a lot of hopes for a lot of our young guys. We all know the game starts up front in the trenches, with Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham coming into their own now and Peters, Herreman and Kelce coming back next year, I think this team could make a substantial improvement next year.

Fingers crossed!

I say we re-sign Maclin if Reid is not the coach. The guy is a quality WR and would thrive on another team if used properly. The guy is an NFL starter. He's just not tuning in to the Reid/Marty show anymore.

We've had issues at WR for at least a decade before Jax and Maclin got here (minus one good year with TO, and one good year with Stallworth) and I still feel pretty good with those two guys.

Sounds like a good list of interview questions to ask the next head coach and regime?

Yes, we should resign Maklin.  Him, Jackson, Avant and Cooper make a solid core of receivers IMO.

Whether or not we make the right safety picks will depend on who is evaluating the talent.  A good defensive coach comes in then yes we make the right picks.  Status Quo?  I doubt it.

I hope we don't stick with Reid but I've said before that I don't think the best available coaches will want a job with Howie doing the talent evals.

I agree our lines are solid but depth is needed.  Not a rebuild, just a tweak.

We can use help everywhere except RB andQB if we're going to give Foles a shot, so I think our pick should strictly be the BPA no matter what position.  FA could change that somewhat.

I would only trade down for 2 first rounders and another 2nd.  If we go farther than that it's a waste.  And that would also depend on what we do in FA .

I also agree we can be there sooner rather than later but only if we get the right coach and he gets the right Coordinators.  I am cautiosly optimistic but I really don't trust Lurie and Roseman to make the best decisions.  We need a real football person in there somewhere.

Dead on my friend.
1- especially in this day and age of free agency and salary cap,,to NOT have a couple down years is almost impossible to do. Out of 32 teams, until this year the Eagles, Patriots and Steelers were the only 2 teams not to have back to back years of not making the playoffs since 2000. So for fans to be screaming like this is the worst organization in the NFL is very comical.
2- you are 100% correct to say that most of the positions on this team are filled with quality NFL players that are plenty good enough to not prevent a team from making the playoffs.
3- I am sure that Lurie will do his homework and get us the right coach. And I would bet my life that the last thing he will do is bring in a "gimmick" coach.
4- to me you absolutely sign Maclin
5- I would probably trade out of their spot to obtain more players. Lets face it, it's not like the top 10 players are guaranteed to be better then any other player drafted.
6- to me the #1 priority us securing the 5th OL starter and the #2 priority is securing the other starting safety.

Unfortunately, I live in Tampa, this years Eagles remind me of the 2001 Bucs, good talent, coach's message by Dungy was stagnant.  The next year they hire a new coach and wins a SB.  Not suggesting they hire Gruden or that they'll win a SB next year.  Just agreeing that's it's not as bad as KC or the Jags.

This team really isn't that far from turning around.  Then again, at the same time, it is a long ways away.  Why?  Because of Andy and his troll companion MM.  Very good questions that need to be answered though..

Forget players at this point, all of that comes later.

What the Eagles need:

1.  A top flight GM/V.P of Football Operations.

2.  A rebuild of the player personnel department from directors down through scouts.

3. A HC with a rational approach to the game and an eye for assistant coaching talent.

This is where players start to matter:

4. A REAL franchise QB.

5.......the other 52 guys............

IMO, this has to be done in this order...no steps can be skipped....and no compromise can be made anywhere along the way.

My only focus as a fan is on Step #1.....if they don't get that right, it ruins everything that comes after.....then it's on to step 2.....and so on.

As for it's never as bad as it seems.....I believe things are always exactly as they seem....until you change them.
