From the way I see it, you can basically get your franchise QB in one of a few ways - draft, trade or FA.

Nick Foles is being given a nice test run here at the end of his rookie season.  If he's the guy, then they did it by draft and developing.

Otherwise, is there any potential franchise QB available as a FA or in a trade?  I don't see it.

Just kills me that for so many years, the position of QB was more often than not, one of strength on this squad, we're headed back to what I hope is not a period of mediocrity at the position that so many other teams suffer from.

There's another way.  Foles doesn't have to be the franchise QB of the future for him to be a good player to have on the team.  He's the type of guy you can have hang around for a few years.  But if you can grab somebody else - either in the draft or by some sort of trade, that would be a better situation for the team IMO.

Better to both keep Foles and have somebody else who can play at QB.

We should keep Vick around and make him the QB's coach. He knows so much about the game and good QB mechanics

i think keep Foles and Edwards and bring in a veteran and have a competition instead of naming sub par QB as the starter from the get go.

Can't we trade picks this year for next years picks and go "all in" on a better QB class?

Play foles next year. If he's good great, if not we'll have a good draft pick to take a qb

If Foles isn't the one then they can at least get one maybe in the 2014 draft

Do what the Colts did for Luck.....and what the cowboys did back in the day for Aikman....when you see a big time, no doubt about it franchise QB coming out in the draft...take a dive and get him.

2014 is pretty star-studded with QBs, we play our cards right, the search might not be that long.

That's assuming Bridgewater declares...
Don't like Murray (assuming he stays in school)
Bray declared (he's a headcase, but has tremendous talent)
Mettenberger?
McCarron (I like a lot, but IDK if he's an NFL franchise QB)
Thomas (bahahahahaha joke)
Boyd (joke)
that leaves Carr, Fales and Renner who I like, but not def franchise QB's at this point.
underclassmen who could declare
Bridgewater (like him a lot but he's up and down)
Driskel (we'll see if he can have a complete season)

very unlikely chance that Wittek declares.

I take a stab at Nassib in the 2nd this year if he's there and let the boys compete.  If not we'll be searching for a while.

I like Kevin Hogan at Stanford a lot.  I'm looking foward to watching him develop throughout his college career.

Foles is better than Cousins IMO and from what I understand the Eagles talked to Cousins and he couldn't handle the media here.

Ok blindside, you must've spent some time in Tucson to dig up that article. Foles isn't a flashy player who wears Superman socks and promises to carry his ishy team to the playoffs. He IS a solid pocket passer who will deliver the ball behind a solid line. I cringed when Foles was drafted by Philly. Foles is in danger of being ruined like Jake Locker.

At this point it's Nick's job to lose. I've been a huge Vick fan over the years he's been here, but Foles has shown he's a capable change. If he can hunker down and improve in the mechanics department(arm, footwork) in the off-season we might not need to draft/trade/bring a FA. Physically, I see him as having the tools required of a good qb.

Cuz that 100% frosh OL he had his last year in college kept him from putting up numbers?

I'm sure that he can teach Foles how to read a defense and make quick decisions.

Baloney.  Foles has handled himself relatively well, all things considered, being a banged up OL.  The OL has every opportunity to be a good line next year when its starters are healthy.

So what your really saying is they need to keep Vick. Let Foles be Vicks back up.
What makes you think Foles would be any happier being someones back up  than what Vick is? Just because the Vick fans think he should be content with  a back up role. Doesn't mean he would be...and shouldn't be. And given the abilities he has demonstrated thus far, that's not likely to happen...for him, or for Vick.

After all this and some think Vick still has a chance of being here next year? Get off the crack pipe and join reality! Reid and Vick are gone. That much is just about written in stone. Until it's decided who is running the show next year and who is brought in,it's just a guess what else will happen.

Skins didn't draft Cousins to trade him a year later. They drafted him because they know from watching  scrambling QB's ( RG3) how liklely they are to not playing a full season...and needed some back up assurance .

And just how successful has the flashy Vick player been since being here? As I recall Foles had an all freshman O line his final year in collage and  set all kinds of rookie records , even while enduring a horrific pounding .

Not much in that area has changed for Nick since being inserted as the QB  here. Yet he is enduring. Just as he did then.

I've mentioned previously it might be best to approach 2013 in a similar manner as the Seahawks did last offseason, when they added a vet (trade for Flynn) and a draft pick (Wilson) to compete with the incumbent (Jackson) for the starting spot.  Hard to say who might be available via trade at this point, but I'd look to add a vet via this route (since FA is bare) and also spend a draft pick and let them duke it out with Foles and Edwards for the right to start next year.
