Hey Dave,
I rarely post on the Eagles message board but just wanted to get your thoughts on a few subject mainly pertaining to the defense. What do you think are the chances of hiring a coordinator who excels in running a 3-4 scheme. I feel like since its week draft this year and as an organization we will be experiencing a lot of changes. The eagles have fell in love with drafting undersized defensive lineman and linebackers in the hopes of installing a fast and physical defense. Unfortunately we haven't had a feared defense since Jim Johnson was here running things and some of his weapons (Corey Simon, Brian Dawkins, Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent, Jeremiah Trotter). I feel like its time take a chance on another stud defensive lineman like Star L. This would allow Cox and Jenkins to be our defensive ends, and Star at nose tackle. Then as far as our linebackers we could give Graham and Cole a shot as our rush OLB, and let Kendricks and Ryans start at ILB. Are safeties are pretty weak as far as starting talent. It looks like Vaccaro from Texas would be a formidable starter from day 1 who prides himself on making form tackles. Thanks for your time and have a nice Holiday.

It all looks good on paper. What happens after the Giants game, I do not know. There are a lot of variables out there. At this time, the Eagles don't have ideal personnel for the 3-4, so there would have to be an emphasis on adding players on D, which I would expect no matter if they run a 4-3 or a 3-4. This defense needs a lot of help. It's going to take some time to get this defense to where it needs to be, in my opinion. I only kind of like the front seven and and I think the back four needs a lot of improvements.

I woud agree with you Dave currently we don't have the right personnel to make the switch to a 3-4 and be effective this year. My thoughts were that even if the defense doesn't reach its full potential until 2014 or 2015, we have the makings to potentially have a dominant defense if we play it smart in the offseason. Bringing in intelligent football coaches who have played and succeeded in the NFL. Prime example look at Mike Singletary, the guy not only was inspirational to players like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, but he also implements a no nonsense type of attitude and expects his players to do the basics and do them well. Number one would be tackling, it seems like whatever talent we bring in they immediately forget the fundamentals. If Philly was able to successfully make the transition it would also benefit the offense as well. We have to exceptional running backs in Lesean MCcoy and Bryce Brown who can carry a large portion of the workload on offense. What else would help out Nick Foles more then have a strong defense that puts him in good field position, and allows him to hand off the ball and manage the football game. Setting up nice opportunities for our quick and elusive wide receivers to show off their route running skills try double moves on the outside. It all relates back to bringing in quality coaches who will really push his players to strive for excellence. Its exciting thinking about the future of the organization to see which direction we go.
