Maybe Roseman wants him here to audition for the next coach.

Should know by now that NFL contracts aren't guaranteed anyways. The second year (2013) probably isn't guaranteed, but it allows Dixon to audition next training camp for a roster spot.

Could potentially be a great signing. He sucked in the wide 9 but looked promising before then.

cox has a concussion, could be out next game. dixon is comfortable here and a 2-year deal probably made it easier to bring him here.

If he's in shape he could be a good DT in this league.

Don't mind it. It worries me he couldn't stick on any roster this season tho. Remember when everyone thought that they could trade him for a draft pick.

Yeah, hes not really athletic, so he would never fit in the wide 9. That said, no one looked any good this season in the wide 9. Now he can try to get back and plug the running lanes again.

I always liked Dixon and didnt want him to be released. I thought he was a decent situational DT

Beat me to it. I generally don't pay much attention to the posters who talk about switching to a 3-4, and I truly hope that we aren't planning on it now that we have a good MLB and maybe a good 4-3 WILL, but this is a reason that makes sense. Dixon on the Nose, Cox & Jenkins or Landri on the end and Graham and maybe someone new at OLB might be a plan. Or maybe Kendricks and Graham at OLB and Ryans & Chaney or Matthews at ILB, although we know Ryans came here because he wasn't working out in Houston's 3-4.

Again, I hope not, but it could make sense.

It wasn't cause Ryans wasn't working out in Houston. It was because they replaced him with someone better. Plus he was still recovering from his achilles injury, and there was no certainty that he would return to 100%.

Well. he wasn't working out because they got somebody better. But thinking about it (And I'll defer to others with more knowledge on the 3-4; this is just a thought) but if the draft works out right:

Dline - Cox/Dixon/Landri

LB - Graham/Teo/Ryans/Kendricks

There's a lot of depth at Safety in this draft, so we could probably get a good one in the early 2nd rd. We can get Oline depth later, and this assumes that JP, Kelce & the Toddfather all come back at close to 100%. We're in decent shape on the rest of the offense (I believe Foles is at least as good as any QB in the draft, and I'm not considering potential FA QBs).

That does still leave us with basically the corners we have now, of course, and just adresses one Safety spot, but you can't have everything...

We may have lost our Cox but at least it looks like we got our Dix back.

(Yeah, one last one before the new year.)

and as long as Brashear keeps his Dix in check, he won't miss his Cox

Its basically a game and a year contract just in case the new coach likes you deal.  They liked him before Washburn so now that he's gone and have an open roster spot they signed him just in case.  Everything can be changed by the new coach.  Stop trying to read something into everything.  They need him for this game and for all we know the 2nd year was put in there by the agent to make himself look good.  We don't know what we're going to run next year could be the 3-4 even though I still don't think we have anywhere close to the right players to make it work, we could still run the 4-3.  We know Dixon sucked in the wide 9 but since we won't be running that letting the new staff have a look at him can't hurt.
