RUEagle Mock Offseason v 2.0
#1
Posted 27 December 2012 - 12:40 PM
In my previous Mock Offseason I had Andy Reid stepping down in a classy move. I think he will simply be fired, now. Reid will not step down as he would not get paid by Philadelphia in 2013 if he did so.
Therefore, Lurie will fire him Monday morning, December 31st.
By Friday January 4th Chip Kelly will be named new head coach of the Eagles. Kelly's Ducks play January 3rd.
I think a transition to a 3-4, again, is a trend in this league that will continue to peak it's head until we come full circle and the running game begins to be lethal again. Houston, San Fran, Baltimore, NYJ, Arizona, Miami all are successful D's and they run some version of the 3-4. Granted, there's still plenty of good 4-3's, but it a trend that I see continuing in a passing league.
I think a Multiple D scheme may be a better fit while transitioning to a 3-4 full time in 2014. Kelly runs a hybrid scheme along with a spread O in Oregon. It's worked extremely well, but that's in college.
Trades:
Michael Vick to the NYJ for a 2013 5th round pick and a conditional 2013 4th.
- Fair value as I see it. An aging QB who will have to restructure his contract and likely will agree to that with the NYJ. They will trade Tebow and get that pick back plus some from Jax. Vick can battle with Sanchez.
Nate Allen to New England for a 2013 6th round pick
- Belichick can probably turn Allen into a weapon that he should have been here. Regardless, it's time to move on.
Mike Patterson to Cleveland for a 2014 5th round pick
- Not in this team's future as I see it. Need to move on with bigger, younger guys.
Free Agency:
Build this team through the draft. Fairly quiet Free Agency, for the most part I say we sign:
S Jairus Byrd 5 year deal
- I think the Bills franchise him, but if somehow he makes it to FA, he's got to be our top target. A playmaking S we desperately, desperately need
TE Dustin Keller 2 year deal
- Aging, but competition for Celek/Harbor
OT Sam Baker 1 year deal
- Somewhat of a liability for the Falcons, but I think he can be a depth move for the Eagles moving forward
Re-signings:
CB DRC 4 year deal
- I wanted to let him walk to be honest, but we just have too many other needs. Perhaps with better coaching, he can develop into a top flight CB
LB Akeem Jordan 1 year deal
- Decent ST LB'er
OT King Dunlap 1 year deal
- Too many other needs, need depth at OT
LS Jon Dorenbos 1 year deal
- 1 year deal to bring back a quality LS
Can't cut everyone in one offseason but at 4-12 or 5-11, nobody's job is safe
Draft:
Eagles pick #4 and trade back to #7 with Buffalo. They pick up a 3rd and 4th round pick in 2013 and a 2014 6th round pick and kick back a 2014 5th rounder to Buffalo. It's time to start stockpiling picks. Buffalo has to be looking hard at Manti Te'o because their LB corps is pathetic and Te'o won't last to #7 IMHO.
On the clock at #7, Joeckel and Lotulelei are gone so the Eagles move back again to #12 and Tampa Bay gives us a 3rd and 6th as well.
Finally, at #12, the Eagles are on the clock
1a. (From Tampa)Taylor Lewan OT, Michigan
- Still an elite talent at OT and we pick up some extra picks to move back. I like this idea even more now that we still are able to land Lewan.
Eagles move back into the tail end of the 1st round with Seattle, getting #26 from Seattle and kicking them a 4th and 7th as well as their early 2nd round pick.
1b. (From Seattle) Kenny Vaccaro SS, Texas
- Top flight talent at S this year in a year where we desperately need help at S. There's likely 3 safeties that can go in the first round this year.
3a. Aaron Dobson WR, Marshall
- Big bodied physical WR that we need. Jackson and Maclin are still here but Avant is aging and I see Jackson as more of a "weapon" than a true #1 WR.
3b. (From Buffalo) Khaseem Greene, LB Rutgers
- 5th year Senior LB converted from a S. Incredible athleticism, leadership and ballhawking skills. Solid tackler as well.
3c. (From Tampa Bay) Jamar Taylor, CB BSU
- Asomugha is getting old and Marsh isn't the answer long-term
4. (From Buffalo) Ryan Nassib, QB Syracuse
May go a round earlier, but if for some reason he drops to the early 4th, he's a guy we can develop. He's got a cannon and really helped a mediocre Syracuse team to some quality wins including a Bowl game win over a talented WVU team.
5a. Alvin Bailey, OG Arkansas
- 6'5" 320 Lb. Guard who can be competition for Watkins. Competition, size. Theme for 2013.
5b. (From NYJ) Trevardo Williams, LB UConn
- Time to revamp the LB corps slowly, but surely.
6a. TJ Johnson, C South Carolina
- Depth behind Kelce
6b. (From New England) Quinn Sharp, P Ok St.
- Would love to get the kid from La Tech, but he's probably gone by mid-draft.
Opening Day Roster:
QB: Foles, Nassib, Edwards
RB: McCoy, Brown, Lewis
FB: Havili
TE: Celek, Harbor, Keller
WR: Jackson, Maclin, Dobson, Avant, Cooper, Johnson
OT: Peters, Lewan, Dunlap, Baker

Right above our pick, read it.

Vaccaro is bigger, stronger, faster, better in coverage, and more versatile than any S we have.
He's really good against the slot WR as well.
Elam is smaller than both Coleman and Vacarro.

I think I'm on the Bandwagon with you. Van Noy is gonna be a stud. He's must get no matter the scheme.
And to GoEagles. Have you watched Texas much this year? While Vaccarro is sill one solid safety he's taking a nose dive, his coverage has been shaky at best and his size means nothing when he misses tackles.
Elam is the most consistent in coverage and tackling. His size means nothing. I would bet anything coming across the middle Elam knocks your lights out over Vaccarro. Elam is tough, viscous, instinctive and a ball hawk. Vaccarro is a very athletic man who if he gets it together can be solid

No, no, no....Vaccaro reminds me everything of Nate Allen coming out of College. He just looks WEAK, and by last night's bowl game i was extremely disappointed in his play. Not a franchise safety.
Elam has 22 Tackles For Loss in 2 Years, the most by any safety ever in that time span.

It's alright. I just hate when Todd McShay or Mel Kiper put out a big board and people see Vaccaro as the #1 rated safety and everybody all the sudden wants him. He is Nate Allen 2.0 lol

1) DRC is a FA, and he will sign somewhere else
2) Trading from #4 to #23 is an epic fail, any way you look at it.
3) Picking up FA is too speculative at this point.
4) Signing Dunlap is a horrible move, did you even watch a game with him playing, horrible?!
Other than that, good job
