we've needed a strongside linebacker for how many years now? since Carlos emmons? when is this team going to get a guy over 6' that can actually cover? it seems every year we trot out 3 weak side linebackers. what's it gonna take to get one? any good ones in the draft or scheduled for fa?

We need one for sure, a good SAM would solidify our LB's with Kendriks moving to WLB, which we could then turn around and focus on the secondary. But yea good point, another instance where Reid's response to a SAM LB......"Were fine there"

Nothing in free agency and the draft at the Strong side position as well as it as a whole paper thin.

The Eagles should've drafted Lavonte David. I like Kendricks, but the need was more for a SAM LB. It was a typical Andy move...to draft a LB and then try to put him not in position to make plays (even though he says he has to do a better job there).

You really think they are going all defense again this year? Offensive line is arguably their biggest need and you don't even have it addressed? Millner is a solid cb prospect but not worthy of a top 5 pick and Star is a DT nowhere near high up on the list of needs. I think it has to be Joeckel.

Manny Lawson is a FA after this year I think.  It would be nice to get a 6'3+ OLB with speed to cover TE's.  Mingo from LSU I think may be coming out this year.  He's about 6'4 or 6'5 240ish and fast.  Don't know about his cover skills since he played DE.

manny Lawson is a 1 year band-aid ala Shawn barber. we need a long term replacement. mingo I doubt has much in the way of coverage, I don't recall him dropping back at all actually... hopefully we can get a gem in the draft at some point

History would suggest he would be a 1 year band aid, but hopefully Reid is gone. Reid had total disregard for the position.

He was HC for 14 years.. How many stud LB's or S did him and staff draft? Dont worry ill wait...

What was wrong with Will Witherspoon? He came in played good and we let him walk because of $$$. AR wont pay anyone thats worth getting paid, which is why he is an effing joke when it comes to defense and a reason why he should have NEVER had full control. How do you let someone have full control of a team, when their defensive IQ is that of a High School Coach? Defense is a part of the game as well Andy. Some would even say that it "Wins you championships". 14 years and his fat a$$ is just as clueless as the day he took over.

the eagles have 2 pretty good LBs right now in kendricks and ryans, how many snaps does the SAM actually play in a 4-3 in todays nfl where most offense are in multiple wide receiver sets the majority of the game? most defenses play nickel and dime the majority of the game, the SAM has become a lost position in a 4-3 due to the the league geared for passing.

theres no reason to devote alot of resources to a SAM its like whining that the team needs to soend a first rounder on a FB when the OL in is shambles. doesnt make sense.

chaney is good enough at SAM, he can back up all 3 LB positions play special teams and can play nickel as well. or wold you rather draft a SAM to cover the TE 5 snaps a game?

Lol! I guess no one watched the game against the Bengals. Lawson was pulled off the field on passing downs. He's a pass rusher in the wrong defense. The man couldn't cover a RB or TE to save his life. No thank you!

This is why I'd want Jarvis Jones! Jones is a every down LB that can cover and rush the passer. If the Eagles get themselves real safety help a guy like Jones would create a world of problems.

Or if Jones is a bit rich for the Eagles liking there is an up and coming kid from UCLA named Anthony Barr that could be selected in the mid rounds..

you obviously didnt read the rest of the post.

the year chaney started he led the league in tackles and was second on the team in interceptions, yet everyone dismissed it because they said not hard to lead the team in tackles on a bad defense and team, well ryans now leads the team in tackles and the team and defense is worse off than when chaney started so is ryans leading the team in tackles to be discounted for the smae reasons?

chaney is a solid LB, he can play all 3 positions can play nickel dime special teams and now that the d-line is 2 gapping again the LBs should be a little more protected.

and again why draft a strict SAM when a SAM is on the field for limited snaps due to the league passing so much?

Could Manti Te'o play SAM? I don't watch much College football but I believe he is a MLB, && from what very little I have seen, would love him on our team, Kendricks, Ryans, & Te'o at LB would be raw.

Nothing wrong with Chaney. He can play SAM just fine. This team needs to be taking OL, S, and CB. If we are going to take a LB, it needs to be J. Jones or someone late. As far as playing better on D, we just need a JJ scheme. I think DRC can cover one on one if there is pressure on the QB. Nnamdi is a cap casualty.

comparing Ryans to Chaney now? Apples to Oranges. Chaney is a career backup and woud probably start on 2 or 3 NFL teams.

He got beat out by Brian Rolle and Akeem Jordan, even when the hamstring was healthy.

How many studs did they draft at all on the defensive side of the ball, one ? Trent Cole is the only player that could be classified as a stud at some point during his career.

Obviously you haven't seen much Bulldog football, he can rush the passer for sure but he can also run sideline to sideline, cover down field and shed blockers against screens and sweep runs.  Kid's the total package but unfornutaely for us he may be a top 3 - 4 pick.
