Please, CT.

Taking an immense talent like Jarvis Jones and finding a place for what he does is not even in the same solar system as taking a guy like Gocong, who did nothing but rush the passer, and was a sack machine in college, and have him covering tight ends.    That's trying to put a round peg in a f****ng hexagonal hole.    Same with drafting an I-formation tailback who was dumb as a box of rocks and only knew how to carry the rock, and asking him to pick up blitzing LB's in a complicated (and f****ng warped) version of the WCO. That would be Ryan Moats. Or asking another college tailback to learn how to play fullback.    Or......................................

Could you do me a favor?    I'm attempting to enjoy an off season for the first time in half a decade, so could we just forget the guy who left this place in a shambles?    Please?
all i am saying is when you evaluate a player and project his production as a pro you can't ignore the scheme

This might make you smile......Reid in Zona will draft Warmack (G) with the 7th pick to protect Kolb....bank on that !!!!!

Do not under any circumstance trade back. You start grabbing blue chip star players like Joeckel or Te'o right away.

Did someone say "Teo"???

I agree. I hate picking OL this early, but from all accounts this kid is special.    I wouldn't be devastated to get Jarvis Jones either - we need aggressive playmakers on defense, and he definitely fits the bill.

I absolutely wouldn't trade down unless we were blown away, and it isn't that kind of draft.

You mean you wouldn't support a trade down for Nate Allen kinda move???

Joeckel is still the consensus pick for the Eagles in most mocks. Of course a lot happens in the next 4 months and I'm one of the few idiots who actually watch every player go through every drill at the combine that entire weekend every year so who knows. But the kid is considered an elite elite (that's two elites) talent in terms of pass protection. Even if Peters is fully healthy kicking him to the right side or making Joeckel the RT and moving Todd back where he belongs would automatically give us a powerful offensive line. If Peters isn't 100% kicking him to the right side only makes even more sense.

I'd take Manti if he fell though MLB isn't exactly a need. Its not like he can't play OLB. But he's the only player I'd take at that spot if its not an elite tackle. Jarvis Jones can play OLB as well regardless of the scheme. That's why I can't stand this new obsession with the 3-4, draft pundits always try to project players at the next level which is so unbelievably risky when you're drafting that high and they rarely come as advertised save with a few exceptions. Von Miller is every bit the pass rusher he was in college and he plays 4-3.

I'm down with BPA whoever that might be but in my opinion pass protection is the biggest problem right now and Joeckel as of right now isn't a reach at all at that spot.

Isn't Jones projected as a 3-4 olb ?  Although if he is BPA it won't matter to Howie assuming we stick with a 4-3 (which I think is likely).

All I want is McCoy, O'Brien, or Kelly as HC with Horton or Lovie as DC.....is that asking too much ?
Tampa 2 guru, LB's in the Tampa 2 don't really blitz at all, so that would render Jones useless, and we have a pure WSLB in Kendricks who would thrive inthe Tampa 2 IMO,

Kiffin has said he's a very good defensive mind, coached under Kiffin as well, so that's a +

Even if he gets one he's still going to need a defensive coordinator.   I'd prefer one whose last job didn't involve teaching blocking schemes to guards, but hey, that's just me.

LOL Op,

this is a DIFFERENT "Teo"........I like Manti a lot !.................and unless Ryans can move outside to SAM or beat out Kendricks for WIL, he becomes a trade-able commodity.

Not to be rude, but if I see the phrases "blue chip" and "playmaker" in the same sentence one more time, I might vomit.

True but I wonder how often do DC's make lateral moves. I would imagine only if a new HC or GM is brought in and they don't fit.

JJ made a similar move. I really want a nasty defense that tackles and intimidates opponents. Last time we had anything close to that had to be the 02-04 seasons. Even under JJ the last few seasons of his life, the D was barely glued together as the old talent left and new talent wasn't really talent.

Fix OLINE, rebuild D, and run the goddamn ball.

The same as hiring an assistant to be your coach, you can hire a current up and coming position coach as coordinator.      No current big time DC is going to make a lateral move, but I'm sure whoever the coach is will have a plan in place for both sides of the ball, as well as special teams.

The next great DC is probably a position coach somewhere in the league - the job is to identify him.

Trade back if you can and collect as many picks as possible. Purge the roster for more picks if possible and go as young as possible.

Play it to start competing again in 2014

I don't think the situation is that extreme.

Trade back with St. Louis for their 2 first rounders and draft Xavier Rhodes, CB and Matt Elam S.

Plenty of tackles available in the 2nd round.

But why would St.Louis give up two 1st rounders in a draft like this?

There isn't that 'franchise changer' at the top like in 2012 - I'd rather have the two picks, quite frankly, especially if you are several players away like we are.

Franchise LT, Joeckel, to protect their franchise QB.

Walter Football mocked this idea new years day.

Trade value chart shows the #4 pick worth more than St. Louis two first rounder.

I am not saying St. Louis would do this, but I jump at the chance if I am the Eagles FO.

For two 1st rounders, I'd absolutely agree.

For anything else, I'd stay put.

Well, maybe for a mid round 1st and two 2nds.

Yeah, baby, and a predictable, 'finesse' offense that is always in shotgun on 3rd and 1.

On January 3, I have no idea what that picks holds. We haven't even hired a new head coach, free agency hasn't started, the Eagles haven't done a thing as far as the roster goes. We don't even know which juniors are entering the draft, right?
