He is a good DC.  I would be okay with it.

But, for the love of all things holy, let the head coach have some say on who the DC is and don't hire the DL coach before hiring the DC.

If they hire an offensive minded coach (Kelly or Brien) then this would be a perfect hire. Don't think he is a capable HC but his defenses have always been good to great.

YES!!!no more piecing together coaching staffs.let the coach choose his coaching staff.we all have seen how piecing together coaches works on this team-can you say 4-12?

Why don't we choose a coach first before we think about staff members

Hire a coach and let him choose his staff.      We've put the cart ahead of the horse for too long now - it's time to change the way things are done here.

Reports indicate Lovie has already had calls about being a head coach.

C'mon, he and Andy are the 2 hot head coaching candidates in the NFL. Why would he consider a coordinator gig when there are like 8-9 HC vacancies?

Lovie is not coming here and quite frankly I would not want him. I don't want a coach that looks like a spectator on the sidelines. I mean does he look like a communicator on the sidelines?

Right but we don't make the decisions so its perfectly fine for us to speculate and fantasize. I was thinking this morning what a great DC hire Lovie would be. In terms of simply coaching defense, he might be the best candidate out there.

Because he's only made the post season once now out of the past 6 years and while the media may be hyping him as a top coaching candidate, I doubt other franchises are looking at him that way. His overrall HC results have been anything but stellar.

Lovie is going to want to coach not be just a DC. He has been interviewing for jobs already and will land a head coaching position sooner not later.  Coaches only accept staff positions only when they have proven they can't handle the head coach's role, aka Norv Turner.

I don't agree.  I don't think Lovie will land a HC job.  I think he would be a great DC.

I think Reid as HC with Norv at OC and Lovie at DC would be a great staff....is that crazy ???

I hate to say it, but many teams will want to interview him to satisfy the Rooney Rule.  He might get a HC job, but my guess is that he won't because of all the OCs and college coaches that are hot commodities right now.

Unfortunately, I would assume most of these interviews are owners wasting his time in order to comply with the Rooney Rule.

I would accept this hiring.

But, Lovie (is that his real frickin' name??!!) will be a HC next season.  Not a DC.

I don't agree.  Offense > Defense

I suspect the same thing. I don't think Lovie is a lock to get a head coaching  job.  There are 7 openings and there are around 10 supposed hot candidates.  Lovie could get caught in a numbers game.

People do odd things to their kids through their names. Remember "The Waltons" TV show? The mother (the actress that played her) is named Michael because her father wanted a boy.

I think the key for Lovie and all of these candidates is ... who is coming to the table as coordinators. Gotta have strong people there, too. I like Lovie. However, I'm not in the interviews and I don't have access to much from those interviews, so it's not fair for me to say who is a favorite or who is a better candidate. Lovie obviously has a good track record in the NFL.
