Mind you this is one perspective....imagine if Reid had hit a homerun and Kolb turned out to be the next Aaron Rodgers, or Brees, McNabb, or dare I say Brady...

We drafted Kolb in 2007, and on paper it was a good move, an example of thinking ahead...if it worked as planned:

1. Kolb becomes a franchise type QB
2. Donovan while still relatively young has value
3. You can trade Donovan and save cap money, and you have an equal or better guy to step in

Reid miscalculated Kolb's abilities and readiness to take the reigns, and I feel that the signing of Vick in 2009 could have been an insurance policy all along, which he had to cash in when the time came. My guess is that the change was made because Reid realized his mistake with Kolb and saw in Mike a guy that could be as dynamic as Donovan, and ideally just as effective. So we saw how that played out....

As such he had to hang his hat on Vick. I don't think that they ever saw Kafka as a starter in any capacity, he was the next generation Koy Detmer, a guy who could go in, not make huge mistakes, and maybe even get lucky now and then...

I often wonder how things might have played out if Kolb was the elite QB that the FO assumed he was going to be...

Andy is the reason for Andy's downfall.  No need to sugarcoat it.

Knowing how it all ended, I kind of wish McNabb was here for the last few years.  Wouldn't have made a difference, but it would haev been nice for them to end together.

I think with Donovan, we might have reached 8-8, pure speculation

Flyerdog, while I agree on Kolb, it was Andy who made the call to draft him and it was his call to move on from McNabb to Kolb.

That said, I still think Kolb can be a good QB if he weren't so fragile. His fragility is the source of all his woes.

And I'm still pissed we didn't draft Russell Wilson. Seahawks got a steal.

Wouldn't have been any better, wouldn't have been a playoff team.  Just would have preferred to see McNabb finish his career here then bounce around like he did.  I know he sucked, but no one here in that time was any better.

You're right. Vick should have never been a starter here in the first place.  Andy's main mistake was putting himself in a position to rely on Vick.  You're right.

Here is an alternative perspective. Maybe Andy sucked all along, and he was fortunate enough to build a reputation when the NFC, especially NFC East, was just god awful. That gave him 5 extra years. The NFC East still is mediocre, and we have won 1 NFC East title in 6 years.

regardless of the present, starting Vick in 2010 WAS the right call..

You're right. Kolb opened the flood gates for Vick and led to the downfall of yet another Vick-led franchise.  It's a shame.  I totally agree with you about what Vick did to this team.

with all due respect, It's not a matter of what Vick did to the team, he did play lights out in 2010...and many of the perspectives that Reid/MM did not do enough to help Mike are accurate , imo. I'm not trying to turn this into another Vick thread...all I'm saying is that things might be very different right now ifKolb had become the next Tom Brady as Reid thought he might.

Andy Reid F'ed this team up and listen to some of you. Can't keep blaming people other that daddy Reid.  You cannot be the players father and expect them to fight for you on game day.  Why would you when you know after the game dad is going to tell you everything is ok.  Just try harder the next time and then the next.   No matter where he goes it's going to be the same thing. He is not going to win jack.    Yeah the players are going to love him.  But as far as Football goes,  he stinks.  He might even have Bill Cosby beat as the TV father.  :nonono:
