Yep. He's a retread. But everyone else is throwing their hat in the "I want x to be the next HC" so why can't I? A key with me is he's a disciplinarian, a motivator. He already knows Foles and liked him a lot coming out in the draft and had him on his QB Camp, was very impressed. He liked what he saw of him this season for the most part. Understands the importance of running the football even in a pass happy league. Hard nosed football guy.

TB traded away a barrage of draft picks. The only time he drafted in the top 5 was the year Brady Quinn and Jamarcus Russell were considered the top prospects. My memory serves he was able to win a SB.

I like Gruden a lot but would rather go with an up and coming candidate.

That being said, I think Lurie may decide to go big name as he knows the fan interest is in real danger if they screw this us and this franchise is in dire need of leadership and discipline.

Lurie's only drawback is that I don't think Gruden would accept a situation where he would be viewed as an equal to Howie and play second fiddle to him when it comes to personnel decisions.

He was in Tampa for 7 seasons.  After winning the SB with Dungy's team his first year, he went 45-51 over the next 6 seasons.  He has been out of the NFL for the last 4+ years.  
If they hire Gruden they are either total idiots or they were rebuffed by their top 5 candidates.  Can you imagine Gruden "collaborating" with Howie ?

I want someone who is younger, hungry to prove himself, someone who hasn't been up in the booth calling games for a bunch of years.  Someone who previoulsy hasn't been fired or released, someone who has no losses on his resume as a HC (so what I'm saying is that I would like an NFL assistant, LOL).

Has any coach ever come back to the NFL from a TV job and had success?

Gruden was screwed over by Rich McKay and the front office who allowed talent to bleed away rather than spend money. He was on staff in Green Bay when they won the Super Bowl, was the OC during the Randall Cunningham days in Philly, built an amazing program in Oakland when they absolutely blew chunks, and then won a Super Bowl in Tampa.

Gruden is a quality coach.

True although Gruden the QB Guru went through Griese, Chris Simms, Gradkowski, Tim Rattay, Jeff Garcia. He also had Monte Kiffen as DC...I just don't trust Gruden, nor do I see him working well with Howie.  We can agree to disagree. I want someone young and hungry.

I would tend to agree, but he would still be the only retread I'd consider - something tells me the guy is hungry to get after it again, and he would provide a jolt of electricity.

Griese, Gradkowski, Simms, Rattay, and Garcia all stunk. You can't win with those guys. McKay and ownership pulled the rug out from under Gruden after he won the Super Bowl. To this day, they are consistently in the bottom of salary cap utilization. They even hired a college guy for a coach because he was cheap.

  Didn't Tampa make a run for Chip Kelly ? Wasn't Schiano a good hire ?

Not to mention Tampa traded away a ton of picks to get Gruden. When you actually look at where/when he drafted through the years, what QB was there for him to get? Two of his first round draft picks traded away, and two second rounders before he even got in the door.

They did make a run at Kelly and didn't get him. Why was that?

Was Schiano a good hire? His team laid down on him in the second half of the year. How much $ does Schiano make compared to other league coaches?

Schiano may be a good coach, the jury is still out. But make no mistake, Tampa hired him because he was cheap.

Exactly....Gruden's coaching resume is stellar and ascending up to the point that McKay and the Glazers sank the ship.

If you call Super Bowl XL a "win" then I guess he won a Super Bowl.  For all of his positive attributes, Cowher is a worse gameday coach than Reid.

I'm with Highboy.  Gruden isn't your typical Super Bowl winning retread.  Plus, you would imagine that if Monty Kiffin does come back to the NFL it would be with Gruden.

I agree that Cowher is worse than Reid and that Gruden is better than Cowher.  I dont wan't any of them.....
