1 LUKE JOECKEL (RT-A&M)
No surprise. We really need to strengthen our offensive line. An upgrade could be made at right tackle, which would allow Todd Herremans to move back to his natural guard position. Joeckel is a strong run-blocker who should continue to improve as a pass-protector as he gains experience, he has been excellent this season.
2 KAWANN SHORT (DT-PERDUE)
We will need someone to play alongside Cox and replace Jenkins. Short is strong, quick and athletic, he has been one of the top interior pass-rushers in college football.
2 DAVID AMERSON (CB-NC)
DRC leaves via free agency, Asomugha transferred to Dolphins, we strongly need a corner-back high quality. Amerson has a special skill set with size, speed and ball skills. He was simply phenomenal in 2011.
3 GERALD HODGES (OLB-PENN STATE)
Even with McRath as a free agent, it's essential to choose a OLB early in our choices. Hodges is a well-rounded linebacker for the NFL, he is a hard-nosed player who has good instincts and a nice physical skill set. The team leader looks like a solid pick for a big need.
4 QUINTON PATTON (WR-LOUISIANA TECH)
With the departure of Maclin, we must prepare for the long term in this position. Patton played really well this season, he is a solid receiver.
5 BRAXSTON CAVE (C/LS-ND)
Cave has a nice combination of strength and mobility. He will make a backup for Kelce, and a perfect replacement to Dorenbos. He has some long-snapping experience.
5 TRYANN MATHIEU (CB-LSU)
The honey badger was one of the best defensive players in college football during the 2011 season and had a massive impact for the Tigers. Time to get back to his best, Mathieu will be a perfect punt and kick returner.
6 MICHAEL WILLIAMS (TE-ALABAMA)
Replace Harbor. Williams been a massive blocking tight end for Alabama. He's a good athlete for such a big tight end, so he is capable of producing as a receiver.
7 MICHAEL CLAY (SS-OREGON)
Clay leads Oregon in tackles with 92. He has a good instinct but extremely undersized for linebacker. Relocated to strong safety, I think he can be a great surprise.
