The Eagles are reported to be most interested in Oregon coach Chip Kelly. But O'Brien is very much on their radar.
A potential sticking point for O'Brien regarding the Eagles job could be their new general manager Howie Roseman. The club's 37-year-old salary cap guru is known to be held in low regard by O'Brien's mentor, Patriots coach Bill Belichick, and by another strong O'Brien contact, former Broncos head coach and Patriots assistant Josh McDaniels.

Chip Kelly is going to find reasons to disqualify himself from the HC positions in the NFL.  He likes the attention the media showers upon him but will stay in Oregon, I bet he eats up all the NFL speculation during the Fiesta Bowl but doesn't leave his comfy Oregon gig.  All of the talk swirling around Chip just feeds his ego, his status and power in Oregon, and I thought he was going to Tampa last year

If thats the thought around the league, recruiting top coaches would seem difficult.  Especially guys linked to the Pats, Kelly and BOB.

Doesn't seem typical of Belichick to come out and state publicly that he doesn't hold Roseman in high regard or disparage him in any way.

But if that NCAA investigation reveals cheating on Kelly's part, he won't stay at Oregon.

I see zero chance that happened. This probably something that mcdaniels or somebody said and got blown way out of proportion. We all know how the media loves to twist stories and make them bigger than they really are.

This is a PSU guy writing the article re BOB.  So if its getting around that Belly thinks Howie is an amateur, why would guys close to Belly, ie Chip Kelly and BOB go work with him especially if they dont get clear cut final say?

Then if its a league wide type of perception, why would any of the most desireable candidates want to come work here?

Connect the dots people.

There aren't any dots to connect.  You really think O'Brien told some random 'PSU guy' ... "Yeah, that Eagles job might be interesting if Roseman weren't in charge of personnel there.  I know my former boss Bill Belichick thinks he is an amateur."

Believe what you want to believe though.

So we're supposed to believe what some psu guy said?

Writers do this all the time. They stir up crap and blow stories out of proportion just to get more people to read their stories. I don't believe this one bit.

If it's true, it wouldn't be surprising and it wouldn't be great news.  With that said, I've never heard any reports regarding Bill Belichick's opinion of Howie Roseman, which makes me a bit skeptical of the sweeping "is known to be held in low regard" statement.  It reminds me of the old college attempt to avoid citing something on the basis that it's common knowledge (which almost always fails to work).

If "it is known", he should detail how it is known.  Now, if he said internet message board legend f_dallas is known to hold Howie Roseman in low regard, he'd be correct.

1 other thing to watch w/C Kelly: I'd bet he's consulting w/Belichick now. And Bill's impressions of Roseman & Banner likely come from Reid. Sounds like Sour Grapes or somebody trying to gain a competitive edge on hiring one of these coaches.

* I'm so confused. Why would Josh McDaniels have any opinion on Howie Roseman? I see zero correlation.

I would say if this is true its a major concern.  I myself dont hold roseman in high regard, but i dont count except as a fan.  To me its another "i know more than you" move by lurie.  He's tried the unproven and arrogant role since his been here like he's done something but the probelm is he hasnt.  So until one of his gambles works out, he's pissing in the wind.  Roseman reminds me of Amaro - struting around with an undeserved sense of accomplishment.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's not making it up, but it sounds to me like he's taking something he heard from someone (somewhere) and passing if off as a well-known fact.

League meetings, trade dealings, gossip (combine, draft, players, coaches agents, etc.).  It's certainly plausible, but it's a little shady to throw something like that out there with no explanation.

Not to change topics but saying that about Amaro is ridiculous. In his first year they went back to the WS which is almost never done in the NL. His Cliff Lee trade basically got them there. Then they had the best record in baseball for the next 2 years setting a franchise record for wins one year. Yeah last year sucked but saying undeserved sense of accomplishment for Amaro is ridiculous. Roseman has not come close to the SB or the best record in football
