I can't tell you whether we will be surprise playoff contenders next year or the basement of the NFL.  What I think we can all agree on is...  Whether better or worse, or even if we have the same record in 2013...  We will def be a different team.  Changing head coaches is the biggest impact on a team (even more than changing quarterbacks).  A whole new staff.  We have no clue how good or bad the Eagles will be in 2013.  I do believe we have enough talent on this team to be contenders but their are many decisions to be made and all of them have to the correct ones...

Michael Vick

Yes I do believe he is still our best chance to win if we were gong to play a game next week.  However Foles does have the higher ceiling (whether he reaches it or not) and with a new coach and staff I do believe it is probably the time to move on to someone young.  When Reid got here he went out and got his guy right away.  Whether the new HC likes Foles or not he will (within a year or two) will have to find "HIS GUY" and I just don't think its a 32 year old QB.  Now since everybody wants to bash Vick I will give him one prop...  Whether he played poorly or not...  He was 1 of only 2 players on offense that I can honestly say gave his all and played with heart and didn't "quit" on his teammates in that final game.  The other player is pretty obvious (Shady)...  And the things he said about how he was pissed off at the lack of effort, I saw people again bash him in the comments on PFT and was stunned.  Wouldn't you want him to say that?  Yes Vick played poorly this year (whether you think its more on him, the playcalling, or the OL, it is what it is...  His play was poor this year) but effort was def not the problem.  I will still be a fan of his (my birds come first of course) and hope he does well wherever he goes.  He gave us two of the most memorable games in 2010 that I will rewind year after year...

Howie Rosman

Look if what Lurie said was true and last years draft was the only draft where Howie really had the most input than regardless of our season that says something incredible.  I remember we were all amazed by last years draft so much props to him.  And look its not his fault the free agency splash in 2011 didnt work, he did his job in bringing in the studs and did a great job.  Had me convinced.  I thought we were going to be world beaters.  Not the case.  Scratch it up to learning the lesson that chemistry is everything...  Overall I think Howie is a great GM, one of the best already and am glad he is still here!!!

New Coach

Was all for having another coach.  I kind of got the feeling that in the early years Andy was ahead of the league a little bit.  But it truly looks like the league caught up to him.  This is a fastly changing league which is why I am not sure I want an old dog coach.  I think someone experienced but yet new to the HC ranks will have some bright ideas and be more creative in their schemes.  The league can always pass a coach by.  And as much as I think John Gruden would be cool (not gonna happen anyway) I just think I want someone new, yet still experienced in todays NFL...

Our CBs

I have no idea what happened.  Could Nnamdi really of lost that many steps in 1-2 years?  We can't get rid of both of them can we?  I think Nnamdi will either be traded (good luck) or cut and we will keep DRC.  I just don't know enough about our other CBs just yet to be confident but I guess it couldn't be any worse could it?

OL

Our OL is not as bad as people think only for the simple fact that Jason Peters (maybe the best LT in the game) will be back along with the other OL starters.  Probably just a RT away from being a well above average unit when healthy...

Foles

I'm not as sold on him as others are.  He showed some good things and some bad.  I guess that's a rookie for ya huh lol.  I think he is def your starting QB next year since the draft isn't high on QBs this year unless we get someone out of FA or a trade but I don't see anybody of use being available...

Holes On This Team

Honestly its hard to say what was a lack of talent or a lack of scheme.  But the holes I would say are CB, S, & RT.  I would say QB because Foles is still an unknown to me but I'm picky.  The DL I think will be fine.  A ton of names and potential and we will see what the new DC can get done since I am sure we will actually have our first actual legit DC other than fill in guys.  Whoever the new coach will want to bring with him...

I have no idea what to expect.  But you guys got what you wanted.  Reid is gone.  Bye bye Marty, Bowles, etc...  New coach will want his own guys I am sure...

Most of the post was too long but I did read the first paragraph.

I agree with the OP I think it will be a short rebuild.  Alot of it depends on Foles and how he grows up in the next season or two.

The core that will remain here are good players, if the draft goes well, if we spent a little but smartly in free agency this will be a talented team..

That just leaves the new coaching staff and how quickly the players buy into the system.

I can see it going one of 3 ways.

Foles is legit, everything works out right away and the team becomes a contender in 2013
Foles takes a little more time to develope and the players need time to adapt to the system 2014 or 2015 is more likely our time
Foles sucks and it sets us back alot because we waste 2 or 3 seasons trying to groom him....Then your faced with a dilema, do you go after a veteren QB and take advantage of players like DJax, McCoy, Peters, and the other veterens in their prime while trying to win now or do you just do a full rebuild trade off all those players and become the Cleveland Browns for about 10 seasons or so.

Oddly, as bad as the team played this year, they have 2 of the 3 most critical things in building a good team.
1 - OL / Unless something unforeseen happens,,,, Peters, Herremans, Kelce and Mathis will all be back. Just look around the league at the OLs and those guys don't have to shy away from any team. Obviously we need to add 1 more quality starter. But that OL is in great shape.
2 - DL / Cole, Graham, Cox and an assortment of solid players make up a pretty good DL
???? 3 - QB / here is OBVIOUSLY the big ?????
But luckily for Foles he should have a very good OL in front of him and he has some very good weapons around him in McCoy, Brown, Celek, Jackson and Maclin.

Now hopefully Lurie will get lucky again and come up with another very good coach.
Now em I expecting the next coach to give this team.......................
**8 of 11 years where they win 10 games or more ??? No.
**9 of 11 years they make the playoffs ??? No
**7 division titles in 11 years ??? No
**5 trips to the NFCCG in 11 years ??? No
But what I do want is what Reid gave us excluding his last 2 years. And that is to be talked about as 1 of the better teams in the league every year and then SHOW the league that they are.

No question he's a major Vick supporter, which I don't get after the last two seasons. But at least this wasn't his normal Rainbows and Unicorns, everything's-going-to-be-peachy sort of post.

Most young people have the attention span of a Ferret these days. With that in mind, this post is wayyyyy too long. However, a few comments, if you please:

Michael Vick
Forget Vick. He's toast. He's due a $3 mil. roster bonus Feb. 6 and another $15.5 mil. for the reg season. No way Lurie pays that. In fact, even if Vick was to accept a pay-cut (I don't think he will) I can't see him being retained by any new HC coming in. Not with Foles as the 'heir apparent.' Vick is traded (not likely) or cut by Feb. 5th. Write it down.

View Posto0OMorrisO0o, on 03 January 2013 - 09:00 PM, said:

Whether the new HC likes Foles or not he will (within a year or two) will have to find "HIS GUY" and I just don't think its a 32 year old QB.
Agree. I'm hoping it'll be Foles #1 and Edwards or someone else #2 & #3. Otherwise the Eagles will have wasted 1 - 2 years trying to groom Foles and then have to go QB shopping again.

View Posto0OMorrisO0o, on 03 January 2013 - 09:00 PM, said:

Howie Rosman
I'm not sure about Roseman but one thing is certain: now he's on his own. From this point forward he'll have to stand or fall on his own record.

Whatever you think of Reid remember this: he came to the Eagles when the Redskins, Giants & Cowboys  ALL  STUNK. Reid's best years were during the "NFC  LEAST"  years of 2000 - 2004. After that, the Giants & Cowboys improved and so did the Redskins, a little bit. Factor out the pre-2005 years and Reid's record is mediocre to bad. Part of that may be, as you say, the league catching up to him. Or maybe he just got fatter & lazier and did nothing to adapt. I tend to lean toward the latter.

View Posto0OMorrisO0o, on 03 January 2013 - 09:00 PM, said:

Our CBs I have no idea what happened.
What happened was: yet another 'big name' FA fizzled, once he got the big bucks. And that tends to support the opinion of SPUDS that this team just got 'SOFT'.

Agree. I can live with that . . . provided his footwork & long ball improves. With proper protection from the OL I think he'll be fine.

We're not so good at LB either. But I tend to think that Reid & his staff lost the players, and all of them got 'soft.' Next year: it all goes away.

PS: Morris, nice to "see" you back. Earlier in the season you used to yell at me for being so negative. Can you see now that it was well deserved? Can you now embrace the "Dark Side" of the Eagles past and move on to the new regime with hope & optimism? I can. But only until it goes sour again. Been there done that too many times. I've been watching this team since President Kennedy was in the Whitehouse. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me two, three, four or more times and I'm either in denial or I'm an Effing  IDIOT. Well, I'm not either of those. I'm just an aging Baby-Boomer who's been waiting for a championship for a lonnnnnnnnng time. I can recite you chapter & verse from the early 60's onward. I've been through all the horrible years of the 60's & 70's. The Vermeil years were the first ray of hope since 1966. Then Vemeil crashed & burned and the Eagles were mediocre to bad until 1988. Buddy gave us hope and was a great defensive mind (see both of his sons in the NFL of today for reference) but was not a game strategist and was an offensive moron. Exit Buddy and in comes Kotite. He was a really nice guy but was in wayyyyyy over his head and really, only had a job because Norman Braman went the cheapest way possible and hired him from within. Exit Kotite and in comes politically correct Ray Rhodes. Again, hope for a few years . . . but it all goes wrong in 1997 & 1998. Exit Rhodes and in comes Andy Reid. Well, what can I say? You know how it went with Reid. Call me jaded but I've seen it all before . . . over the long haul. I'll be cautiously optimistic for a few years . . . this team needs to win a championship before I die. PLEASE?

hahaha I swear you are all little kids that can't move on.  Vick will most likely not be here next year.  I have moved on, its you people that can't seem to do so.  God forbid If I type his name at all in any posts even though he is clearly a dcision that the new coach will have to make…..DUH PEOPLE.  Now here we go again you reduce me to talking more about vICK.  If you would of just left it alone that would of been it but now you force me to defend my post you dopes!!!  God lay off the drugs...

this place doesn't change much.  Still filled with little elementary school bullies.  seriously your reduced to talk trash and tease and heckle over the internet.  That makes you look very small and weak.  C'mon there should be more to you than that, just makes the person your doing to look better than you and I don't think thats the effect your looking for.  Look I am no reporter or anything.  I do not write articles for a living.  But to trash ones posts when you either don't post yourself or yours is no better is pretty hypocritical don't ya think?  Just cause were sport fans doesn't mean we have to intentially be ignorant to everyone else who does not share the same opinion...

I think if we played a game next week that Vick would give us the best chance to win.  However Foles has the higher ceiling.  whether he reaches that is up to him.  I do think its time to move on from Vick since with a new coach comes a rebuild anyway so why not find a young starting QB of the eagles to go with the fresh start?

Yes you totally saw our whole OL go down for the year, andy replacing Juan when the D under him was not bad at all.  Letting go of Babin and washburn, brown having fumbling issues, jackson being out for the year as well as mccoy for a few games and Vick being concussed...

You saw all of that coming huh?

I will always remain possitive because unlike you, whenever we win the big game I want to truly enjoy it instead of having to admit at every turn that I was wrong...

And I, unlike you, will remain objective. I don't recall the exact predictions but I think you had this team at like 6 - 2 or 5 - 3 at the halfway mark. Even if you said 4 - 4 you were off and way wrong on where this team was heading. And you predicted something similar for the 2nd half of the season. Even if all the stuff you said about injuries etc. had not happened this team would have been lucky to win two more games than it did. These sort of predictions or 'musings' are what makes your ridiculous "POSITIVE" rhetoric amusing at times, but is largely worthless. Clearly, you are the classic 'Blind Homer.' Have a nice Eagles  message board life with just about every poster mocking you. It's well deserved.
