Probably a safe bet.....with Kelly and O'Brien off the list, there has to be a little scrambling right now @ Novacare.... especially after the Eagles PR machine trumped up how desirable a job this is.

But not time to panic as of yet....

Not that Arians would be my choice but you're talking about almost 20 years ago at Temple. Bellichik didn't even have his first job that he failed at yet. A lot of coaches get better over time

Would you be willing to bet a $1B franchise on that?
If not, he shouldn't even be mentioned as a candidate.
Eagles have to get this right or this couple year skid could turn into a 5-10 year skid

That's my only fear. I wasn't sold on Kelly or anyone else, because I don't know enough about them in terms of having what it takes to be a great NFL coach to make that kind of judgment or even render an opinion. But I really hope Kelly wasn't 'the guy' Lurie wanted, or my question would be why we weren't the first ones in the room ready to close the deal.
Whoever it is they are targeting, I sincerely hope they close the deal ASAP. If the primary target is an assistant they can't speak to until their team is eliminated, that would explain the delay.
Interviewing the entire field and 'taking time to make an informed decision' sounds great on paper, but the way it works now is like a game of musical chairs, and with all the openings to be filled, hesitating might be fatal.

Its possible you may be right that they may really want Chip Kelly seeing the measures they are taking to meet with him....

I'd like to see McCoy or Arians get the job and wouldn't mind Marrone as a close runner up.

1. He must have ability to bring in those people, that he knows are among the very best at whatever job they are brought in to do (preferably, even better than he himself would be at them)....whether coaches or players.
2. He must have the ability to demand excellence, command respect, and then stand aside and trust them to be exactly what he identified them as, without any significant interference and only minimal correction as needed to maintain unison in the big picture, and cut ties with anyone he makes a mistake on, quickly.
If they find a candidate that can truly do those things....they'll have found a championship caliber Head Coach, in the mold of my favorite.......Bill Walsh.
I hope they do.

Yeah........I thought that when I was typing the post, but rather than saying they need the opposite of Reid, I thought it more accurate to say that I think they need a Walsh type Head Coach.....v.2.0.

I am not sure about Kelly but I would be excited if he was the hire.
I also think the following is a good pool of candidates in order of preference:\\
Horton
Bradley
Fangio
Arians
Marrone
Jay Gruden
McCoy
Plus there are other unmentioned candidates as of now from the playoffs teams who we haven't even considered.
I'd prefer defensive coach over offensive but hey as long as the fit is right I am ok with it. I don't know if its all fluff but I loved what Lurie said about the type of person, character, and coach he wants. Lets hope they find the right guy.

The meeting with Chip went until midnight EST......and apparently no deal signed. A lunch time meeting that goes into the night.....yeah, I'd say they want Kelly......but does he want them?
Hard to say I guess, since he promised to meet with the Eagles and the Bills, and may just be keeping those promises.
We'll see.
