he had a very good season for being a nickel corner.. Do you think the new coach gives him a chance to start next year? or do u see them keeping nnamdi?(i hope to god not).. Boykin on the right side.. and a free agent corner on the left? (Sean Smith, Aqib Talib, Chris Houston or Brent Grimes)?

It's not unrealistic. His downside is his height, but he can jump really high. He's definitely athletic enough to play out there, but I think he'll stay slot.

I don't see Boykin being an outside corner. He played slot in college and will stay there in the NFL. That is not a knock on Boykin, it just takes a specific type to play that position and is where he is best suited.

If Grimes or Smith hit FA, I would love one of them to replace Asomugha. If DRC also leaves, then I would like us to draft a CB in the 1st while picking up one of those CBs.

Let him stay inside where he is best and most comfortable. In todays league most teams have at LEAST 3 good WR's so slot is almost just as important.

the wr's in this division would eat him alive if he started outside. we need to re-sign drc and draft a corner to play outside. nnamdi can kick rocks

Yes he can play on the outside..he did it at Georigia.

I think it's pretty likely he's a starter next season.

Look at what kind of Clown Shoes R.Sherman is off the field and look at what Bradley has him doing ON the field. You dont think he cant do the same with DRC? Assuming this is our next HC?

It seems Gus Bradley likes big, physical corners so if he's the head coach then no Boykin will stay at nickel.

just because sherman was caught with drugs which he was acquitted from anyways doesnt make him a clown off the field.. Sherman is very physical which  drc is not physical whatso ever.. Giving drc a big payday also would just make thinga worse w him imo

DRC isn't physical

Good points and while you are right about him not being physical, he is an exceptional talent WHEN he tries/plays hard. Probably the fastest CB in the league and in the top 3 as far as fastest player at any position in the league. Hes tall, lanky, long arms, extremely athletic, great acceleration, and tremendous speed. He has the ingredients to be a top 3 CB in the league, but thats just my opinion.

boykin should be sticking the lil slot WRs.

I think Nnamdi takes a paycut and we jump back into the top of the 1st to grab a CB high (after signing a SS in the FA allowing Allen to play his natural CF role).

He didn't ONLY play the slot in college.  He was mostly an outside corner who played slot as well.  :nonono:

No, he didnt have a really good season IMO, his body frame is to small to play on the outside. He is a Nickle/Dime Corner, lets hope he can improve from last season where he wasent too impressive.

I know the last thing anyone should do is judge a rookie whether its good or bad after just 1 year.
But considering his struggles,, I would say no, it doesn't appear he can be a typical outside starting CB.
But for the most part you defense consists of 12 distinct starters now.
That 12th starter is the slot CB. And that appears to fit him nice. Yes he struggled plenty this year. But there was enough to see that said he COULD be a very good slot CB.

I was a little disappointed in Boykin.  He didn't do well on kick returns and I don't recall him making any plays as a DB.  Hopelully next year.

I agree he did have bad season which is strange because he had a good preseason.

One thing is for sure, keep him in the slot covering vertically challenged WR's, he's too short to cover anyone over 6'00''.

Not to sound like an arse, but basically a nickle CB (slot) is basically a starter. Now if you mean in the sense of a traditional starting CB I would say no.
Now granted, I get it that him struggling last year is typical for rookies. But I just don't see him being on the outside.
I think the bigger question is can MARSH start at 1 of the outside spots.

If Boykin can't start on the outside, Marsh definitely can't.

If Boykin can regularly cover and shutdown Jason Witten, and Domenik Hixon, and Pierre Garcon in the slot then he's our guy, otherwise we need to keep looking.

What ever happened to building this team to compete against the teams we actually play? All this BPA BS is just that, BS. We need to build a squad that will get done the job at hand - beating the Cowboys, Giants, and Redskins. As we evaluate each positional player, this is question we need to have answered: Is this man better than the opposite players on our divisional opponents? If he can't compete in the NFC East, we don't need him.

Case in point: Nnamdi Asomougha. May have been a shutdown corner in a weak NFC West, but in the East he was regularly beat.

Not saying he can. We just haven't seen enough of him to know. And god knows we can't go by who was playing and who wasn't.
Keep in mind, if Bradley comes here, Marsh at 6'-1" / 200lbs will get a chance to show what he can and can't do.

Well yeah there's always that possibility but what I've seen from with my own eyes is that Boykin is clearly a better player than Marsh. Boykin plenty on the outside while he was at Georgia so we know he's capable of doing it. Anytime I've seen marsh in the game, which isn't much, he's gotten beaten

I guess there's no sure way of knowning until we see them both out there next summer but as of now, I'd take my chances with Boykin.
