When Bill Parcells left the Giants, Dan Reeves was hot for the vacant job.  You know what he did?  Radical concept - he applied for the position.  Not only did he apply, he got it.

In the 70's, a vacancy opened up in St. Louis for the Cardinals HC position.  An upstart HC from San Diego St. named Don Coryell wanted the job.  You know what he did?  He applied for it, and was hired.

If Gruden wants the job, why doesn't he apply for it?

because he needs someone to offer him an interview?

My buddy and I contacted the AD of every DI and DII university this year that had a HC vacancy and sent in resume's and letters of intent.  We got nothing back

Ray Handley was handed the Giants job when Parcells left.

Not a big deal. I understand your point but it always amazed me that the great George Young cold be so wrong.

Gruden obviously wants the job, he had Jaws basically begging the Eagles for a call on his behalf followed by Vermeil.

Part of it is ego - saying you want the job and don't get it but it could state that his application is a breach of his ESPN contract - or at least a breach of trust with his employer.

If Gruden truly wants the eagles HC position, he has to market himself and then sell himself to lurie and roseman......sitting there hoping to get a call is a loser's way of applying for a job.

Lurie is a businessman......and unless he has already made up his mind, he probably would listen to a sales pitch from gruden.

And even more of a reason to stay away from Gruden if he needs other Eagles greats to speak for him. I read a few months ago that Lurie didn't like Gruden, they had a poor relationship plus Gruden himself has point out many times the team and fans tried to run him out of town....now they want him back? I think Gruden should've gone to college and coached Tennessee. Get his feet wet and further build a resume and actually coach young players.
