I wish STL would give us a true king's ransom for our 4th overall pick as possible. But them giving us 2 1sts and a 4th for our 4th overall pick may be a little too good to be true. So I wanted to see how it could happen if we still traded down, but made it relatively conservative.

For this mock draft installment, I've been looking at possible trade down scenarios. As usual, I don't include any FA in my mock drafts, even though they would play a factor in the rebuilding process, but I tried to address as many areas as possible.

PHI sends their - 1st round pick (4th overall) in the draft
to STL for their - 1st round, 2nd round, and 4th round pick (16th, 48nd, and 110th overall)

Using the old and new draft pick trade value charts to evaluate the fairness of the deal:

EAGLES send away the 4th pick)...
Old: 1800 pts
New: 1850 pts

RAMS send away 16th, 48th, and 110th...
Old: 1000 + 420 + 74 = 1494 pts
New: 950 + 440 + 80 = 1470 pts

(As you can see, I intentionally soft-sold our #4 overall pick to see what a worst-case scenario trade down could net us.)

Somehow get an extra 5th round pick (from trading someone that doesn't fit in with the new scheme, or collectively from trading multiple people... I just need one extra 5th, haha :P )

*R1, pick 16 - Matt Elam - SS - Florida - 5'10, 205
I don't think Elam makes it out of round 1, and I think he's considered the best safety in the draft when all is said and done. I don't think 16th overall is too early for a shorter safety because the kid has major skills and tenacity.

*R2, pick 35 - Barrett Jones - OT/OG - Alabama - 6'5, 302
  or  Lane Johnson - OT - Oklahoma - 6-7, 303

I'd be happy with either, whoever the front office likes better or is available between these two. Jones has national championship experience and plus versatility... Johnson has prototype size and great upside as a RT, and maybe even LT, prospect. I'd seriously love either on my team.

*R2, pick 48 - Logan Ryan - CB - Rutgers - 6'0, 190
He doesn't have the overall size of Rhodes or the length of Banks, but he is a solid player who showed up all season. Had a great bowl game, challenges receivers.

*R3, pick 67 - Gerald Hodges - OLB - Penn State - 6'2, 234
Strong overall linebacker. I like rounds 2-4 for going after LB's, and Hodges and Kendricks on the outsides could be great. I think he has the frame to put on about 10 pounds.

*R4, pick 98 - Aaron Dobson - WR - Marshall - 6'3, 200
This guy can make a catch on every pass he sees. Gives us a receiver who could maybe replace DJax or JMax somewhere down the road, if we decide to part ways with either of them.

*R4, pick 110 - Joseph Fauria - TE - UCLA - 6'7, 258
Hopefully he's still here, I've been hearing about other TE prospects over this guy. Great size, obviously, and has the receiving skills to make this a solid pick.

*R5, pick 129 - Kiko Alonso - LB - Oregon - 6'3, 243
A tough player with great size, can be a great backup behind Kendricks, Ryans, and Hodges. Can blitz well.

*R5, pick 1?? - Blaize Foltz - OG - TCU - 6'4, 310
Not a very well known guy, but would be a fantastic pick here. Strong as an ox. Could definitely be a starter down the road. (Mathis and Herremans won't be around forever... sort of already counting Watkins as a loss)

*R6, pick 163 - Lonnie Pryor - FB - Florida State - 6'0, 229
Millard is returning to school... so in with Pryor. Reminds a bit of a young Leonard Weaver, can probably add a few more pounds to his frame.

*R7, pick 194 - Quinn Sharp - P - Oklahoma State - 6'1, 205
Averaged 46 yards per punt this past season, one of the best punters in the country. Hope he's still here.

The first 4 picks (Elam, Jones/Johnson, Ryan, and Hodges) are close to instant starters at SS, OT, CB, and OLB. After these players, the rest may be BPA. Gives us some good offensive threats to "rebuild" with. Foltz has the strength and toughness to eventually develop into a starter. And for the record, even with "soft-selling" the 4th overall pick, I'd be plenty happy with how this draft played out, especially in the first 3 rounds.

If you prefer another defensive back, substitute Shawn Williams - S - Georgia to replace either Dobson or Fauria in round 4.

I like Elam and all but if the Eagles trade down the only player I want them to trade down for is Warmack out of Alabama.  Pairing him with a healthy Peters will make Shady and Bryce Brown very, very happy campers.  Will also be a big boost in the development of Foles.  I haven't watched too many games with Joeckel playing but right IMO Warmack is the better prospect.  You just don't see guards that are that powerful and athletic.  He could be a 10 year All Pro.

Since I don't want to waste time again, here is what I said in another topic:

"Why in God's green earth would St. Louis parley their two 1st rd. picks?  Are you kidding me...just because a team has 2-1st rd. picks doesn't mean they automatically get punch drunk and waste them...my goodness people, get a grip....not every team is like the Redskins and Raiders, wasting picks at whim....."

A key to this draft is leaders... getting good people who have a passion for the game of football onto this team.

Elam is a tenacious player who's always fired up.
Jones has played multiple positions for the best team in college football over the last 4 years and is very driven.
Hodges acted as a leader for the Penn State defense, especially during their current tough predicament.
Fauria is a genuinely nice guy, a natural in front of the camera, plays with heart.

I didn't, though... after this trade, they'd have a R1-4th overall, a R1-22nd overall, and a R3-78th overall in the first three rounds...

If they didn't want Elam that early, I'd have no problems with them going for Warmack via a trade down. He's gonna be one hell of a player.

Gotcha, I see the thinking here....

Still though, I am not sure it is all-together beneficial to trade that far down.  Maybe going back 3-4 spots, but not all the way out of the Top 10.

You're right, it depends on who they want. Warmack is a top 10 guy the FO might be interested in, for ex.

I like it too. Doesn't have to be stl either, so that trade is probably the most accurate. I like Elam Ryan and an oline man. I went to psu and I dunno if hodges can play strong side lb in the nfl. Better suited for weak like Kendricks
