Hey Dave, does this surprise you that he is going with a 3-4 defense?

Thanks Dave

Andy may have made a good hire with Bob Sutton as DC. The Chiefs ran a 3-4 and I assume has the personnel to fit and Bob has been involved in the Jets 3-4 over the last several years.
If you are a Chiefs fan, you are likely to be happy with the hire ( and totally relieved Andy didn't bring in Juan).
Just another example of how change is good for AR and the Eagles.

Bob Sutton isn't a first time coordinator.

what's the difference?  andy reid knows as much about a 3-4 defense as he did about a 4-3 defense, which is nothing.

I stand corrected. 61 year old former college D coordinator with a short failed stint as a coordinator in the NFL.

You are still incorrect fwiw. It seems like you just are looking to be negative or critical or Reid, which is fine.  Reid hired McDermott then Juan then Bowles as DC.  3 total failures.  Sutton should be an improvement.

Sutton was a HC in college...He guided the 1996 Army squad to a 10–2 record, an appearance in the Independence Bowl, and a top 25 finish in both major polls. For his efforts that season, Sutton was awarded the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award.

for the Jets:

The 2008 season was one of the best for the Jets defense. The team ranked near the top of the NFL in rushing defense (94.9) and yards per rush allowed (3.7), their best statistical showing since 1993. Five defensive touchdowns were a Jets franchise record and Sutton’s squad registered 41 sacks, seventh in NFL and 30 takeaways were tied for fifth in the NFL.

During his time with the Jets, Sutton has helped develop many players, including then-Jets LB Jonathan Vilma, who finished with an NFL-leading 187 tackles, earning his first Pro Bowl spot in 2005. Vilma became only the third Jet in team history to be voted AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year after finishing the 2004 season with 118 tackles, two sacks, three pressures and three INTs.

Sutton’s coaching also proved beneficial in 2001, when the Jets were the only team to place three linebackers in the NFL’s Top 25 in tackles, with all three starters over 100 tackles.

No offense at all, but why do you care enough to actually research the guy?

Are you going to provide daily Reid updates during the season as well?

Just askin'.

I am absolutely interested in Reid and how he puts his staff together in KC.  I wasn't planning on providing updates during the season, but who knows.

No, I am now correct. You have excised info to make his career look better than it is. 44-55-1 as  a head coach at Army. Why did you omit that? Two years as a coordinator under Mangini, himself a defensive coach, neither year was his D ranked higher than 16th. Two years as a coordinator and done. Back to linebackers coach. No way to sugar coat it man, not an inspiring choice and most Chiefs fans don't think so either, apparently.

No..you are totally wrong
You said he was a former college dc...and a failed NFL DC...you are wrong on both counts....He went back to LB coach when Rex was hired and brought in his buddy as DC...Sutton worked his way up to asst HC.......Rex Ryan is a great defensive mind and he loves Sutton
take a look at how Army has played since Sutton left...or back to the 70s...Sutton compiled one of the best records there while DC and HC
the point is you know nothing about the guy and you just wanted to take a shot at Reid
you may also want to hold your comments about Pederson until you find out who will be the next Eagles OC

So their franchise savior of a HC has made a curious decision on an important personnel matter that they don't really agree with? And he's been there now, what, 6 days?

They'd better strap in for the ride.

Dude, what the hell are you smoking? I can't find anything anywhere to support your fantasy view of the guy. Now I'm not going to pretend i've followed the Jets or his career, because i haven't, but come on already. You mentioned his best year as a college head coach while omitting his career losing record, what's up with that? The freaking guy is 61 years old, was an NFL coordinator for two years under Mangini, his defenses were never higher than 16th, Mangini's fired and its back to linebacker coach. That's the story. Pretty crappy resume.

No doubt. Pederson is a first time coordinator, Sutton appears to be just a guy, the running back coach failed as a coordinator at Colorado and pissed off Adrian Pederson in Minnesota. Nice start and completely predictable.

The only difference for Chief fans is they are seeing the incompetence right out of the gate, without even the break in period we had.

The point is I identified Sutton from the jump for what he is, just a guy and evidence of another questionable coaching hire by Reid. Why you feel the need to put lipstick on him and present him as anything but that is beyond me. 44-55-1 as a college head coach and you write about his one 10-2 season, selectively weird man. Yeah, I missed that he was a coordinator for two years for the Jets, not sure how, but once you brought it to my attention I researched further. An undistinguished two years man, just like the rest of his career. Even found one blog where the writer says he was a mess and Mangini had to step in for him from time to time. I'll post it if you want to see it. I didn't because I am not familiar with the writer.  He is a weak hire. Even the Chiefs fans who are inclined to embrace everything Reid right now are scratching their heads. But not you. You go to Wiki and cut and paste his meager career hilights and then smack me for knowing nothing about him. Pretty freaking hypocritical.
