I don't begrudge Tommy getting back into coaching, but becoming the KC Chiefs DL coach kind of pisses me off a bit.  He retired from the Eagles, and I respect that.  That, along with the death of JJ and the departure of Dawkins, really hurt this defense.  We had to suffer through the likes of Rory Segrest and then Jim Washburn...  Now, Andy goes to KC and gets a top tier DL coach, when we've been struggling in that very position since Brasher and subsequently Pete Jenkins, retired.

Well, that may be true, but at his advanced age, he's still a far better coach than any of the coaches we've had with the Eagles in the past 3 or 4 years - and that's the frustrating part.  I was glad that he came back to coach the Eagles DL when Andy finally decided to fire Washburn, and we saw some flashes from our young DL talent.  But, I figured he only did it as a favor to Reid for past glory together to finish the year strong.  Now, he's back in the NFL, and it kind of bugs me a bit that he is coaching elsewhere.  I'm not so much mad at him as I am in the circumstances surrounding his return, and Andy's inability to find a quality replacement...  Interestingly, Andy still can't find a replacement for him for the long term.  An indictment on Reid?  Perhaps.

Not like he came back to the Eagles for the organization. He came back to help out his buddy Andy. Sucks but what can you do? No sense in getting butt hurt over it.

I think our eyes deceive us. The DL was better than with Washburn, but it still wasn't where we hoped it'd be. I think the season deluded us fans into accepting expected performance as above-average.

right.  they were still getting their a**es kicked every week no matter who was in charge of the DL.

he didnt come back because he loves the eagles so much and came back for the fans there and the city he came back because reid asked him to, despite reids shortcomings he has alot fo respect from other coaches and alot of  coaches love working for and with him because he treats them right.

Andy Reid can bring whom ever he wants to.  But who is going to stop him from calling dumb arse plays that don't work and throwing the Football all damn day.  Not to mention abusing the time clock.  All of those coaches see a chance to make a few dollars,  so why not.   And lastly, What are the coaches going to do to stop him form killing all of his Qbs, especially the ones that are not mobile.  I feel sorry for the KC fans.  :nonono:

the real question should be why did he leave?  Clearly he likes Andy so who was leading this team in a direction that he wanted no parts of??

some one in this organization didn't like the way the line was being run, that's clear now.  They brought in washburn to run that idiotic wide 9 then no DC would come here, so they promoted there O-line coach (who did pretty well with it) then they lost a 4th QT lead in pittsburg so they ran him out of town.

So why would he back sooner??????????

Those who are young, dumb, and full of _um, think geezers can't contribute. Any person with a curious mind and passion when young, never loses it. Ever! Retirement is for boring people.

Exactly. Andy is well liked and  respected by many  throughtout the NFL ...just  because a large contingency of Eagle fans don't, doesn't mean no one else does.

The point being, rather than hiring Washburn in the first place... why not Tommy?

Depends who you ask. There was an article a few weeks ago that said Reid has lost touch with who are the best and brightest position coaches out there, and that Howie actually brought Washburn to him. Based on Reid's recent hires, both here and in KC, there may be something to it. I know this, Reid actually nudged Tommy into retirement.

Did he?  But, then he had to convince Pete Jenkins out of retirement, didn't he?

His hires for assistant coaches in KC has been very interesting.  No real surprises, except Brasher.  Brasher was surprising to me, at least.  I figured his spot here was a temporary thing, and he'd go back into retirement.

Probably the most concerning of Reid's hires with KC is Britt Reid as quality control coach.  He took Culley, Melvin, and Pederson along with Brasher to KC.  We'll see if Andy can recreate what he had here, or not soon enough.

It was a gentle push but it was a push, and Brasher conceded himself he's been wanting to get back in for a while. I'm not impressed with Reid's early hires at all, two coordinators who have never done it before, a rb coach who by all evidence isn't a very good coach, and the Britt Reid thing is unbelievable, I cannot believe the Chiefs let him do that.
