Why did the Eagles bother to release that silly statement ?  To save face after being turned down by O'Brien, Chip Kelly, and now Brian Kelly ?
Please let the PR department know that it doesn't help the way the Eagles' coaching search is viewed.  If anything it make the Eagles look like a joke that they are worried about how they are being viewed by the media. Same old same old.

The Eagles have released the following statement updating the status of the team's search for a head coach.

"There is no question we spent a considerable amount of time and effort looking at who we thought were the best collegiate candidates for our head coaching job. We did so knowing that there was a remote chance that these coaches would leave their current posts.

"We understood that going into the process, but we wanted to leave no stone unturned while trying to find the best head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. We have no regrets about the effort we made in that direction and we will continue to proceed as planned in our search."

When Brian Kelly opted to continue with his vacation plans, they should've known that he did not really want the job. When Chip Kelly spent 9 hours and didn't commit after knowing for months that he was going to be courted by the NFL that was another sign the Eagles should've cut bait.  Lurie and Roseman need to stop trying to make a splash with a bigger name coach and get the right coach in here...someone who REALLY wants to be the Eagles coach.

Leave no stone unturned in their search for a coach they say ? It seems like they basically offered jobs to both Chip and Brian Kelly without interviewing a bunch of people on their "list".  I hate to say it, and I have a hard time imagining that it is actually the case, but the Eagles seem like they have no idea what they are doing or how to go about doing it.
Seriously....wtf do Don and Howie know about finding the right HC ? When Lurie hired Reid he had Modrak's help search.

Why does it look like they don't know what they're doing? They interviewed three top college coaches. The coaches decided to stay at their respective schools. What is the harm?

If the Eagles' top HC options don't want the job, the Eagles don't know what they are doing.

Well, if Jeffrey Lurie is saying that Howie Roseman has final say on personnel in these interviews, then that's most likely the reason why these candidates aren't interested.

The paucity of dignity this organization had left is rapidly disintegrating the more this process goes on.

That's the kind of response that I expect from MJ. lol.  The coaches stayed at their colleges.  They didn't take jobs with another NFL team.  How does that even remotely hint that the Eagles don't know what they're doing? I don't know whether they do or don't know what they're doing; I just don't thinkthis indicates one way or the other.

If the Eagles as reported offered jobs to Chip and Brian Kelly, are they really leaving "no stone unturned", or are they just blowing smoke ?
The fact that they were so high on a couple of college coaches before even talking to them is an ominous sign to me.
The fact that they released that embarrassing statement makes it clear to me that they were spurned by their top choices and are going to plan C and trying to save face. The Eagles are embarrassed...that is why they put out that press release...and if they really knew what they were doing, they wouldn't be embarrassed.
Why would they know what they are doing ?  Howie has never done this before.

If we are not going to leave stones unturned, then maybe the FO needs to look at this guy for HC.

KOJO,

Until Lurie understands that he needs a big time football guy at GM and is willing to act on it.....the erosion of that minuscule amount of dignity shall continue......down into nothingness.....as he and his brain trust are rebuked again and again.

NO Head Coach...especially a first timer, who's future career is definitely on the line, will want Roseman anywhere near his football team.......these guys may have to go to Division III before they're done.......sad.

It is all spin.  This franchise is built around spinning the truth.  Soon you will have Spadaro comment on this subject, and that will be spin as well.  This franchise treats their fans like they are a bunch of morons.

Most of the teams looking for a coach have already fired the GM and can let the coach bring in who he wants. Hope that's not our problem

The 3 nerds continue to get played like a fiddle.

If the Eagles weren't my team since I could walk, I would find it pretty amusing. But now essentially they are down to hoping and praying Gus Bradley doesn't turn them down before most likely turning to a retread like Lovie Smith or possibly oven Jon Gruden, who I happen to think they are afraid of because he will walk all over and see right through Howie.

While certainly better than the Browns job, I imagine there is nothing particularly enticing to a seasoned coach about the Eagles gig.  While there are pieces here, this team needs a complete overhaul.  While Eagles' brass talks a good game about how enticing the Eagles are to coaches and players, I believe the reality is somewhat different.  Just another team in just another NFL city.

Again, I don't have any problem with the way this process has been conducted. The Eagles have tried to be transparent for the fans, and have tried to provide information to the fans, as much as possible. I think that is wonderful, and the idea is that the Eagles want to give the fans as much information as possible. If the team says nothing, it gets criticized. If it tries to provide information, it gets criticized. This is what happens when you are 4-12. I get that. Been around a long time. At the end of the day, though, I see a thorough coaching search that may or may not end in the next few days. I'm feeling good about that.

Well, at the end of the day I agree with you.  Thorough search is good and they will make their choice (the only guy they may have missed was Marrone but who knows).
However...I believe they targeted and basically offered or were prepared to offer jobs to Kelly, Kelly, and OBrian. How could they have had so much faith in the three of them....yet seem to have no real clue or direction in targeting all of the other options from the pro ranks ?
I don't get it.....

Some things don't mandate a response. This is one of them. The PR made them sound defensive and awkward. It only adds to the "perception" that they are scrambling. It makes the belief that coaches are shying away from this position appear to be valid. The PR was ill advised and ill timed.

They been very selectively transparent which means they haven't been transparent at all. I have no problem with the process though.

I agree the statement seemed ill-conceived. In the end if they get Bradley I'll be happy (for a few days anyway :))
