Lurie says this franchise wins big

Gold standard

yet are going to have to settle for the 5th-10th option.

I hope when they evaluate the sludge on this roster it reminds them how far they have fallen.

For a fanbase that complains about Santa being brought up after so many years, we sure do have a lot of people that won't let go of that old "gold standard" comment.

seriously though if this was the gold standard.

wouldn't a college coach take 30 seconds to think it over before leaving to come here.

Sure, but then if this was the gold standard we wouldn't have had to fire a Head Coach or replace the team president. Lurie made that comment years ago, I think it's time to let it go.

Eagles can offer more than any college team.

Colleges have a limit on what they are willing to spend because they have other interests besides a football program at the end of the day

Eagles sole purpose is the football program.

Reality check?  This is all based on the PERCEPTION of who their top targets were.  Is there definitive proof, other than "anonymous sources" that an offer was made to any of these coaches?  Of the NFL level candidates, have they missed out on someone yet?  Are they the only team without a coach right now?

PLEASE... reality check yourself.

I find it hard to believe we made an offer to all 3 college coaches. Maybe Lurie didn't feel any were right for the job. Maybe all 3 used Lurie as leverage for more $.

If we DID make offers to all 3, then I am very scared of who we choose because that means Lurie is swinging blindly.

I think Lurie wanted to talk to them, gauge their interest and see where it goes. I don't think offers were made at all.

I really don't understand this opinion. Foles didn't look like a Hall of Fame candidate, but he looked pretty good given the circumstances. He looks to be the most accurate short-to-intermediate passer this team has had since I've been watching. Garcia may have been slightly more accurate, but I'm not sure about that. He needs to work on the deep passes, and he did struggle early on with the speed of the defense but he made strides with protecting the ball as the games went on. I'm not sure what he'll be yet, that depends on his development, but he looks like he'll be at least a decent-to-good backup and may well develop into a starter. Of course if the offense changes too much, we'll never know what he'd be in the WCO

how do you know what option there on?  Most times its the hiring company that turns down a potential employee not the other way around.

and ironically, the board has whined about choice 1-4, and now is whining that they decided to stay at their current job.

This is all speculation. They couldn't interview Gus Bradley until today so what were they going to do in the meantime? Might as well check out a bunch of guys.

personally i'm glad that we didn't pick any of these people to be our HC. history has shown that people who come straight from college doesn't always do well in the NFL. now if you have had NFL experience then go down to college and come back up there might be a different result. i think there are plenty of assistant coaches and coordinators out there who are playing or where eliminated last night that would fit the eagles much better as a HC. It doesn't hurt to interview a person when all it costs you is a dinner.

Lurie deserves to have the "gold standard" comment brought up as much as possible.  How hard do you think the rest of the teams in the NFL laughed when they heard that comment?

Maybe if we'd been publicly turned down by the coach of Grand Rapids or West Virginia you'd have a point but the guys that we've looked at have basically been at colleges that get to pick from the cream of recruits every year to programs that you'd have to be a complete horses arse to make a mess of, and they get paid absolute fortunes. The NFL is a hugely risky crapshoot by comparison. It takes a special type of competitive spirit to make the jump out of your comfort zone.

I don't think teams were laughing when they heard the comment since they were one of the best teams in the NFL in the decade, at that point.  If he said it recently, as many people seem to think he did, then they probably would have laughed.

This. After it was announced that B Kelly was staying at ND ESPN was saying something like "So who will coach the Eagles now?" and I asked my friend "well what about the other 6 teams looking for coaches?"

The Bears have interviewed more candidates than the Eagles have. The Chicago Media says they are being  wise and smart picking the brains of some great football minds, lilke the Raiders used to do.
