the three guys they spoke to in college:
1. O'Brien - was a longshot to leave, everyone knew this
2. Chip Kelly - wishy-washy - has seriously damaged his chances of future NFL jobs because he backed out twice in the 11th hour. And he has a nice cushy job now, as it is.
3. Brian Kelly - used us as leverage, nothing more
1 , and 3, would have taken HUGE incentives to pry them away....think about it, if you have a great job, with security...what would it take to pry you away to a job with less security? it would probably take a lot, perhaps more than Lurie would be willing to give. And then there are many factors you have to weigh in to your decision...
I agree we are a less attractive option than other teams..so Lurie may have to give that extra to get the guy they want

For a fanbase that complains about Santa being brought up after so many years, we sure do have a lot of people that won't let go of that old "gold standard" comment.
The funny thing about "The Gold Standard" statement is fans think that it means JUST WINNING A SUPER BOWL.
And what Lurie CLEARLY said in mentioning the famous line of "The Gold Standard" was they would run the organization as good or better then every NFL team in the league within football operations and with helping in the community.
Make sure their players were involved in the community.
Make sure they do fund raisers
Make sure they get out in the public and share the holidays with the unfortunate.
Make sure they do the best they can in bringing in good character people.
Winning a SB was only a small part of that statement.
And the truth is they absolutely run the Eagles as good or better then every team in the NFL. Because they haven't won a SB doesn't mean they haven't run a great organization.
Certainly going to Childrens hospital and things like that multiple times a year is certainly a helluva lot more important then winning some stupid SB.
Do they want to win a SB ??? Obviously.

List the teams looking for a coach.
What team is more attractive ???
Lets keep in mind that by far the most sought after proven coach without a doubt was Andy Reid. Nobody was even on the same planet as him.
After that you had a bunch of college coaches that had ZERO to offer as far as the NFL goes and then a bunch of DCs / OCs who also have proven basically nothing.
There is a reason why approx. 10 coaches are fired every year.
BECAUSE VERY FEW PEOPLE CAN SUCCESSFULLY COACH IN THE NFL !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lurie's "best head coaching position in the NFL" statement recently supplanted the gold standard comment.

The gold standard comment is taken out of text so much. People need to go back and read what was said and try to understand it.

No surprise that O'Brien stayed. Chip Kelly loves Oregon and has a special program there. Brian Kelly just led the most popular college football team in the nation to a national championship game and will be able to recruit like a fiend forever.
