Dave, I can understand that during a big news story that floods of Eagles fans would come to the board and crash the board. A Super Bowl or Playoff win would do the same.
Hiring a hot new coach? Crash due to high traffic. Draft day? Crash... maybe...
But today, during an off season with no playoffs... no Head Coach and no new Head Coach news, what happens? Crash due to being "Over Capacity". There were 105 members logged in at the time.
The problem? Guests... more than 3,500 of them. Many probably not even real people, probably search engine spiders.
Dave, can you please, please restrict the board to registered members like it used to be? We hardly ever had "Over Capacity" errors back when it was that way. Now that it's fully open to "Guests" though, it happens quite frequently... at times when there's no logical reason for it to happen!
Here's a screen shot to show you the breakdown from today when we had 'issues'...
I really think the "Guests" situation has been one of our biggest problems and I really believe that the majority of those "guests" are probably Search Engine Spiders flooding the board to index it.
Fortunately, it didn't last long, but it still sucks when it happens. Damn I miss the board that we had just before, and just after the disaster of April 2011. That was the best performing board, and the best layout, and the best for functionality.

That's why I believe many of the "guests" are spiders and why I'm convinced that the "guest issue" is the problem. I watched the list and those 3500 "guests" began to quickly fall away and access quickly got back to normal.

You are most likely 100% correct. How in the world would there ever be 3500 guests on this site??
Here's the list from roughly the same time 24 hours later, also during playoff football... please restrict the board to registered members only and restrict search engine spiders too. That would most likely go a long way toward solving some of the problems.
Dave better be getting fired. Not because of these issues and therefore he deserves it (he doesn't), but because I can't think of a better reason for him not to respond to threads as pertinent to the flow of the board as ones like this.
We've told dave about it multiple times this last year and people have provided proof with screen shots. All dave says is he'll talk to invision. They do nothing.
I don't know where it is slow. Is it in the ridiculous thread in Talk About The Eagles? Cause it's not slow in this forum. Maybe you can narrow it down a bit. I'm on the boards 2-3 times a day and I don't experience what you experience. The more specific you can be the more helpful it is to me.

it happens regularly throughout the day...& in every forum on this board...
there is something wrong...whether you experience it or not (&, really, the whole "it doesn't happen to me" is probably the lamest IT-response in the book...i know, because i've used it more than a few dozen times )...

Dave, in the pinned topic there are MANY examples including screen shots of problems people have. It's not one forum. It's getting onto the board to the main page first. Many times the page doesn't load or you get an error telling you it's over capacity or not available. During gameday and big news announcements, you can't get on the boards at all and if you are lucky to get on, it takes several minutes to open a thread, then a couple more minutes to load a post. It's verrrrrrrrrrrry slow.
You know this, we've complained all year and posted many threads in this forum about it. You keep saying you'll talk to Invision or that you don't see the problem on your end. Do you think all these posters are lying?

There may be a misconception on the problems which might also explain why that big Blog thread was done away with (or whatever happened with it that made some mad). Specific threads, no matter what size that are don't get "slow", the entire board does.
So if a thread in TATE has 450,000 responses and causes the database to be slow, it's slow for the entire EMB. Not just that thread.
I understand that you aren't seeing the slowness on the few times you're here and that's frustrating because there most definitely is a problem and I really wish you would experience it.
Here's a screen shot from last month showing almost 13,000 guests. That much traffic is a problem. That may as well be a "Denial of Service Attack" on the board, because that's what it does. It denies service.
Here's an example from November, during a game. This is what it's like when things are doing what we're talking about.
Again, I understand that you're not seeing these problems in the couple of times per day that you're on the board but you have to trust us that these problems are here. I'm retired form the military and am now a full time college student finishing a second IT degree alont with working on an MBA, so I don't have a job and am on the EMB all the time and at all hours of the day/night when I'm not in class or working on something for class... and actually, I'm even sometimes on the EMB while I'm actually in class lol.
Trust us on this one Dave, the slightest breeze and the EMB becomes very slow and soon thereafter we get "Over Capacity" errors.
"Over Capacity" errors when there's fewer than 200 registered members on the board, mind you. That's just insane.
