Has to be about 10000 guests on the EMB for gamedays

1214 users are online (in the past 15 minutes)
177 members, 1021 guests, 16 anonymous users
That many guests? Is that the new NFL.com format of letting people view boards of any team without being registered?
So regulars and Eagles fans have to suffer so trolls from other teams can browse TATE topics?

I really believe that the majority of "guests" are search engine spiders. A search engine spider is an automated 'bot' that "crawls" the "web" and indexes everything it sees. So if we were to have 13,000 "spiders" "crawling" the EMB, the spider would go to a thread, index it, go to another thread, index it, go to another thread, index it and so on and so on.
Then, when someone goes to Google or Yahoo or Lycos or any other search engine, they get search results.
Try this, go to TATE or another forum here and look for a fairly new thread. Copy the thread title and then go to Google and do a search for that thread title. It doesn't always work, but many times the thread is already indexed. Here's an example...
This thread was posted today at 4:35 PM Eastern Time. It's now 5:05 PM Eastern Time, so only a half hour has passed since it was posted.
http://boards.philad...-more-about-02/
I copied the title and went to Google and got this hit. That was about 5 minutes ago, so it was indexed and in Google in less than a half hour (even though the image says 14 hours).

I searched Yahoo for the same thread but Yahoo hadn't indexed it yet.
That's just a random thread on TATE, and it was probably index within seconds of being posted. That's why you see all those "Guests" sitting on the Index page. They're probably spiders waiting for new content to index for Google or some other search engine.
So imagine it, we have 150 people on the board and 50 of them at any given time are responding to or posting new threads and we have 1,000 spiders sitting on the index page waiting to index every single new post as soon as it's posted... that takes A LOT of bandwidth.
Have that happen when there's a lot of people posting and at worst you get "Over Capacity" errors or a very slow experience at best.
That's why I'm asking you Dave to please restrict viewing of the EMB to registered members only and block spiders from indexing the board. I don't "guarantee" that this will solve the problems because I can only look at this from afar and as a member, but I really believe that this solution will solve a lot of the problems.
Heavy news days will still have slowness and "capacity" issues, that's to be expected and understood. But "Over Capacity" on a Wednesday when there is no news, no games and nothing else happening is just silly and preventable.

The weird thing is I have problems when I pull up the EMB on my laptop using Firefox but if I pull out the iPad and use Safari there are little if any problems.
...and Dave the problems are all over the forum. If you are going through the Eagles servers I doubt you will notice the difference because you have a ton of bandwidth.
The average user does not have that,
LOL @ looking up a Shocker thread.

One thing that I've asked in the past but never got an answer to is this, is the EMB on a shared server, virtual server or dedicated server? I would hope to God that we are not on a shared server. That means we're sharing resources with any number of other websites. We need to be on a dedicated server, if we're not already. Of course it's easy for me to say that since I'm not paying the bills... but someone mentioned the Falcons board in another thread as a comparison. They are also using Invision but I don't know if they are on Invisions servers or some other host, but they may be on a dedicated server that devotes all of its resources to their board.
Is that the setup we have Dave? Is the EMB server dedicated to the EMB alone?

This thread was posted at 5:20 PM Eastern. I did the Google search at 5:32 PM Eastern
http://boards.philad...enerio-for-fun/

For that one, the thread title alone brought up too many hits but the thread content brought up the actual thread.
