It don't really matter if you have a "fluke year" if it leads to a SB.JPP was a big part of the Giants SB run.He was arguably the best player on there D during that playoff run and that's all that matters. If we took JPP I bet they don't even make the playoffs.I do overall agree with what you're saying though but I don't think Grahm really broke out yet.

1) JPP was not only the best player in the playoffs last year, but to me was the single best defensive player last year and to not be given the defensive player of the year was absolutely crazy.
2) Per snap,,, Graham was more disruptive and more productive then what JPP was in his monster year.
3) Like JPP, until Graham does it more then a single year,, he has not broken out.  And neither has been anything special for more then a single season.

How do we know that Thomas would be the same player here? With the circus that the Defense has been the last few seasons, Thomas might look almost as bad as Allen. There is a lot to be said for good coaching.

Lets keep in mind 3 critical things.
1) The scheme in Seattle for Thomas is very basic and actually just about the easiest scheme for a safety to play.  Its a single deep safety with read coverage simply depending on down, yardage and CB coverage. A very basic, very little read scheme.
2) Even in that scheme, he struggled in pass coverage finishing 73rd out of 88
3) And somehow he managed to finish dead last in the entire NFL for any defensive player in missed tackle percentage.
Think about that. There are about 500 defensive players in the NFL that see extensive time, along with another 100 that play at least 25% of the teams plays and he was DEAD LAST.
Seriously. Think about that. DEAD LAST !!!

So my guess is,,,, if he struggles in that scheme he would struggle in most schemes. But in Seattle he doesn't have to be great with the other 3 DBs he has around him. Especially with a player of Chancellor's ability's out there with him.

E Thomas is good but definetly overrated by eagles fans on here. Graham seems to be the right pick.

Thomas instead of Graham, and Bernard Pollard instead of Jarrad Page off the street at SS.  We would have been set!

No that was actually quite well spoken. Lets compare them after both of their careers are over. That's the only way we can make a real assement.

Ideally yeah but they need at least a few years. Graham hasn't even started one full year yet. Crowning him better than a 2 time probowler after starting half a year is almost as dumb as labeling him a bust after getting injured in the middle of his rookie year.

He got an INT on an overthrown pass. He's so good yo!
If you actually watched the play from the end zone camera angle, you'd see how good of a play he actually made. He stayed in his zone toward the middle of the field, read Matt's eyes well, and broke on the ball the moment it was thrown with quickness that you don't really see in a Safety not named Ed Reed (in his prime). Yeah he got trucked by the diminutive Rodgers on a run in the same game, but the name of his game is coverage and at least he attempted to tackle him, unlike Asante who half-heartedly tried to tackle RBs.

You keep throwing that ranking out there like it's an official stat and not an opinion.  Common sense should tell you there aren't 72 safeties in the NFL that cover better than Earl Thomas.  It just isn't possible.  Your reliance on that number when making your argument makes me discredit any legitimate criticisms you might have of Thomas because it makes you sound like a biased hater.

He's a play maker. He gets beat at times, but he also makes big plays. Very similiar to AS. PlayMakers are ard to find (just ask the eagles), and thats why Thomas gets the hype he gets.

There's a huge difference between pro-bowler and all-pro.

lou its pretty simple. the people that aren't high on grahm ...simply weren't paying attention the last month and a half of the season because the team sucked. grahm, foles, and maclin were three very bright spots in an otherwise bleek situation. colt anderson gave us productive safety play in there for about 2-3 weeks but his gig was up pretty quickly lol Another name that i thought stood out a little bit down the stretch was phillp hunt. Do you have any of his per snap stats by chance? I know he didnt play a ton but his name seems to get called whenever he is on the field.

You realize that Curry has basically been a BUST and isn't with Seattle right ???
And for the record. HOPEFULLY the new coach can get Allen to play like he did in..........
-his rookie year before he got hurt
-in the final 6 games last year
-and in the 1st 9 games this year.
honestly, in those games he played better then Thomas has at any time in his career. Allen played very well in those games. The question is why has he been so horrendous in the other 8-10 games.

You understand that Graham literally had a GREAT year this year. There were probably was only 1, maybe 2 DEs that had a better year then Graham did this year.

Vinny Curry played well when he was on the field... that just wasn't very often.

My point was I'd rather take two average/above average players than one great player and one that is complete dirt.

Nate Allen sucks...
